During this time of Autumn the sun is rising later and setting earlier with each passing day. At this point it is just coming up as I am driving to the parish The Way
for the 7 a.m. daily Mass. I am blessed of Faith
that my route takes me along the banks of the James River and across the Lion's Bridge. For a few precious sec‐
onds I can see the wide‐open sky beyond the James River Bridge, cov‐
ered or flecked with clouds, or perfectly clear, and always alight with the crisp new light of the sun at the beginning of the day. I'm always re‐
minded of Psalm 19: "At the end of the sky is the rising of the sun; to the furthest end of the sky is its course. There is nothing concealed from its burning heat." In Scripture and throughout the Christian tradition, the sun signifies the Word of God, through whom all things were made, incarnated in the person of Jesus Christ. There is no part of creation which is not illumi‐
nated by the saving love of Jesus, no corner of the world which does not know the presence of Christ. The rising of the sun each day also symbol‐
izes both the rising of Christ from the grave‐‐the Resurrection‐‐and his anticipated return at the Second Coming. Just as the rising sun illumi‐
nates the whole world, scattering the darkness and bringing everything into full view, so also the Resurrection and Second Coming of Jesus bring the light of salvation into the world, overcoming sin and making all things new. For this reason the direction of the rising sun, the East, has always been very richly symbolic for the Christian people: for centuries, wherever possible, churches were built facing East, and the most ancient practice of the church is that both people and priest face toward the East for the consecration of the bread and wine at Mass. The third Eucharistic Prayer in the Roman Missal, often used on Sun‐
days, includes these lines: "...you [O God] never cease to gather a peo‐
ple to yourself, so that from the rising of the sun to its setting a pure sac‐
rifice may be offered to your name." The sacrifice of Christians is what Paul calls "a sacrifice of praise." Since God has given us everything, the only real sacrifice we can make is to live the whole of our lives in praise of God, through his Son, in the power of the Holy Spirit. To live in the awareness that God's love illuminates the whole world and draws us all in; to live "facing East," rejoicing in Christ's Resurrection and anticipating his return; to be a people fed by Christ's own sacrifice in the Eucharist: this is the "sacrifice of praise" we celebrate each new day, with the rising of the sun. ~ Fr John David Bulletin notices and advertising: All information must be sent to the parish office no later than 8AM on Mondays. semble personal care kits at the workshop. Parent and child should attend together. Children must be registered before attending the session. As women of faith we can rise to meet those demands with grace and dignity by setting our sights on the Way that Christ shows us. The conference welcomes national keynote speaker Sister Miriam James, SOLT and guest musician Sarah Hart. The conference will feature multiple breakout sessions, Mass, Reconciliation, moving testimonies, and expo area with several different vendors and ministries available. Reg‐

Tutoring Available Children in grades 3‐8 who need a lit‐
tle extra study time are invited to attend “Study Buddies” in St. Michael Hall, a free tutoring ministry, every other Mon‐
day after school. One session will be from 3:30 to 4:15 and the second will be from4:15 to 5:00. Instruction will be avail‐
able in math, science, social studies, writing and reading. Come prepared with study materials and topics. Two Talks for Parents OLMC School is hosting two talks by Fr. Paul Scalia, Vicar for Priests in our neighboring diocese of Arlington. This takes the most standard and common sayings of parents and discerns in them, not mere knee jerk reactions, but fair expressions of divine truths. Next weekend is World Mission Sunday, October 19, which gathers support for the pastoral and evangelizing programs and needs of more than 1,150 mission dioceses in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and remote regions of Latin America. OLMC School’s Cornerstone Dinner
The Cornerstone Dinner will be hosted by Our Lady of Mount Carmel School on Saturday, November 8, at St. Michael Hall. Our theme for the evening is service, with an emphasis on those who serve in our military. Our guest speaker will be Chaplain, Lt. Colonel Joseph Deichert, who is stationed at Langley Air Force Base. All proceeds from the evening will go to help the school in furthering its mission to provide a Christ‐centered and educationally stimulating environ‐
ment where students recognize their God‐given gifts and achieve their highest potential. We hope you will join us! ro medico aquí en la Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Que es esto?: La atención medica es proveído por personal de “BON SECOURS CARE‐A‐VAN” Cuando: Cada SEGUNDO Y CUARTO MARTES de cada mes . La registración empieza a las 9:30 am hasta que la clínica este llena. Entre mas temprano llegue mas temprano será atendido. Costo: TODOS LOS SERVICIO SON GRATIS, pero las donaciones siempre son apreciadas. Servicios Incluidos: Evaluación de rutina y tratamiento de enferme‐
dades agudas comunes, incluyendo; infecciones respiratorias, dolo‐
res de cabeza, dolores de oídos , y conjuntivitis; vías urinarias e infecciones de la vejiga; gastritis y acideces; erupciones menores de la piel (ronchitas); dolores musculares menores, y condiciones crónicas tales como diabetes e hipertensión. También: Exámenes físicos para escuelas, exámenes físicos para deportes; seguro medico para niños, inscripciones y educación sana. Se esta trabajando para entrenar a personas bilingües para que puedan asistirte en estas clínicas de momento si tu no tienes un traductor, llama a la oficina para que se te asigne uno durante tu visita. Para aquellos que se han inscrito como interpretes estar pendiente de la información, para un entrenamiento de parte de la parroquia. De la manera que Dios nos da la vida, la iglesia siempre esta comprometida a ayudarte a que tengas una buena salud, tan‐

Ya están abiertas las registraciones para las familias que deseen inscribir as sus hijos para recibir los sacramentos. “Reunidos por la Gracia” Este nuevo programa, es una oportunidad para continuar compartiendo un desayuno en familia tanto en nuestra propia familia como también con nuestra familia comunitaria de Fe, conocer a otros feligreses y profundizar mas en nuestra relación con Jesucristo. Damos inicio a nuestra reunión con los alimentos, luego nos dividiremos en grupos de nuestras edades para los talleres. Adultos, Escuela Media, Jóvenes y Niños (Guardería, Pre‐K y K, Escuela elemental por grados). Jóvenes de la Escuela Superior están invitados a servir como lideres de grupos pequeños para los niños, durante los talleres. Adultos, Jóvenes y niños, experimentan la Palabra de Dios y descubrirán, las enseñanzas de la Iglesia a través de los mismo temas doctrinales.
