3rd Sunday of Easter
Reflection by Rev. Leonard N. Peterson
The fancy word for witnessing Christ is
“evangelization.” I know you have at least heard the
word mentioned in church, or perhaps you have read
about it. For some of us, that word has overtones that
could intimidate us. Does it mean that I have to buy a
soapbox and stand along Route 9 and start preaching?
Absolutely not, although the novelty of doing that
might stop traffic!
No, it’s you and everything about you that does the
witnessing. You don’t have to say a word, although the
way you talk and the words you use are part of the
“package.” Also the way you dress. The way you act.
Your demeanor and your decisions. Even your diversions.
Then there’s that crucifix visible in the family room.
That BVM statue in your flower garden. Your noticeable habit of Mass at the parish every Sunday, or to another Catholic church when you’re traveling. Your
outreach to the needy and your volunteering for a parish effort of some kind. The positive difference you
make to your neighborhood. Your smile. And when the
time and the circumstances permit it, your faith-filled
answer to that often unasked question from someone:
“What makes you tick?”
Dear Lord Jesus, I thank You for the compliment you
give me in asking me to spread the word about Yourself. You are indeed the “good news” the world longs to
hear, even if it can’t express that longing.
For this mission, I give You my whole self, Lord, that
You may grow in me, and tell me what to say and do.
For “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer
live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the
body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me
and gave himself for me.” Amen. (Galatians 2:20)

“It is indeed more through suffering and
persecution than through eloquent preaching that God
wills to establish his kingdom in souls.” -St. Theresa if
Lisieux
In today’s Gospel, (Luke 24: 35-48)
Jesus appears to his disciples after his Resurrection. The
marks in his hands, feet, and side indicate his rising. Jesus Resurrection prefigures the Resurrection of the saints.
It also attests to our Resurrection at the end of time. Jesus
now reigns forever in a risen body endowed with spiritual qualities. He can pass through locked doors and vanish at will. He is no longer bound by time or space.

Social Justice Corner - April 19, 2015
O Lord, let the light of your countenance shine upon us!
You put gladness into my heart. Psalm 4:8
A heart full of gladness comes to us when we are in harmony and in love with God. When we feel the light of God's
love in prayer or as we serve others, we are filled with joy
and a sense of peace. We sense that we are praying with
the heart of God.
“The person who learns to pray with the heart of God has
no patience for injustice anywhere. They see with the
prophet's eye. They break down national boundaries. They
transcend gender roles. They have no sense of color or
caste, or wealthy or poor. They see only humanity in all its
glory, all its pain.
“The person of prayer is not a person of private agendas.
The more we become like God, the greater-hearted we become as well. We have no sense anymore of 'we and they'
or 'them and us' or 'me and mine.'
“Now our hearts open to take in the heart of the world.
When, in prayer, we come to discover God's universal love
we suddenly realize that God does not take sides, that we
have no priority on God alone.
“We finally understand that the God we seek is the God of
the world and so, to seek that God, we must develop hearts
as big as the world ourselves.”
A Person of Prayer by Sister Joan Chittister

Here’s to Your Health with Sheila Conway
(Consult your Physician before making any changes to your
exercise or diet regimen.)
Earth Day is every day
One day a year the world joins together to help
care for our environment. But who says every day
isn’t Earth Day?
Volunteer at a community garden—Michelle
Obama planted one on the South Lawn of the
White House. Fuelled partly by a boom in interest in the
health benefits of locally grown food, community gardens are popping up across North America.
Gardens can benefit ecosystems by bringing more flowering plants, encouraging pollinators like bees. But there
are less tangible health benefits, too, from the friendships
that gardeners make with each other, or as seniors share
their knowledge with young families.
Trade in your car for a bicycle for the day—More and
more adults are rediscovering the fun of riding a bike.
Cycling helps you develop fantastic lower body strength.
You also strengthen core muscles because you’re working
on keeping balanced and upright. Cycling is often as
good for the spirit as it is for the body. Research shows
study participants with depressive and anxiety disorders
who cycled for 20 minutes reported decreased levels of
anxiety, and those who picked the level of intensity they
wanted to ride at reported an increase in well-being.
Visit your local farmers' market—Not only is farm-fresh
better for you and the environment, but chances are
you’ll actually eat more fruits and vegetables if you go
local.
Swap out your cleaning products for eco-friendly—Most
“green” cleaners spurn ingredients that may cause reproductive harm or lead to chronic health problems such
as asthma. Furthermore, green cleaners offer natural
ingredients instead of synthetic ones and more concentrated formulas. They may also be free of petroleum distillates and phosphates, which can harm aquatic ecosystems, and packaged in recycled or recyclable materials.
Help the environment by connecting with it.—
Researchers have long touted the physical benefits of
walking, such as increased oxygen intake, revved-up
circulation, a healthier heart and calorie burning. But
walking can also shed stress and enhance calm energy.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Friday, May 1, there will be Eucharistic Adoration in
the chapel after the 9:00am mass from 9:30am to
7:00pm.
“The time you spend with Jesus in the Blessed
Sacrament is the best time you will spend on
earth. Each moment that you spend with Jesus
will deepen your union with Him and make
your soul most everlastingly glorious and beautiful in Heaven, and will help bring about everlasting peace on earth.” -Mother Teresa of Calcutta
Come adore, praise, thank God for his love and
mercy. Bring your petitions to Him and ask for His
graces to do His will. Call Barbara McGeachen at 609448-8399 to sign-up for Adoration.

MINISTRIES
By the end of March we will have just five more months of
payments totaling $42,234.20 left on our long-term bank
mortgage. It seems like yesterday that we took on this huge
financial obligation. But thanks to our parishioners we have
succeeded in satisfying our obligation. Hopefully after the
last payment in August the parish will celebrate this accomplishment by burning the mortgage!
However, we have to remind you that the building and
property still require repairs and maintenance, which carries a high cost. This winter we needed to spend approximately $6,000 to fix serious problems in our parking lot, as
well as the concrete pads in front of the church entrance
from the parking lot. These were only temporary repairs
that will not last long, so we will shortly be doing a major
project to replace this entire concrete area. The repairs to
the parking lot are a little more long term, however, we
know that within a year the entire parking area will need to
be dug up and replaced.
In order to fund these and other repairs, we will continue to
use the pink envelopes once a month as a collection to help
offset these and other extraordinary expenses. When possible we will change the envelope description to “Building
and Grounds Improvement”.
Thank you for your continued support in helping St. Anthony of Padua maintain and improve its fine facilities.

thank all of those parishioners who have made a donation

This year St. Anthony of Padua’s share of the goal is
$63,000, pledged to date: $36,260, paid to date: $29,010.50.

III DOMINGO DE PASCUA (Juan 24:35-48)

Arzobispo Fulton J.
Sheen
