THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT
WORSHIP
ENCOUNTER THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL
Year Two: Focus on the Domestic Church –Marriage & Family
Jesus is encountered in daily life within the domestic church, so that the
Holy Spirit gently blows upon the faith of everyone in the family,
turning sparks to embers and embers to flame!
3rd Sunday of Lent
"While he was in Jerusalem for the feast of Passover, many began to
believe in his name when they saw the signs he was doing." How we
would love to see those signs! How easy it would be for us to believe if we too could witness Jesus healing the sick, feeding the multitudes, calming the storm. It's tempting to imagine that faith was a
simple thing back in those days. We might be inclined to think that
we don't have the same benefits as those first believers, and so faith
is harder in our day and age. But is it, really?
In truth, we have an advantage that none of those people had: two
thousand years of Church history! Two millennia of faithful, prayerful Christians believing in Jesus and spreading the Gospel; the collective witness of the saints--many of whom have also worked
"signs" in Jesus' name; the effects of the Church on culture and the
world through its schools, its hospitals, its spiritual movements, and
religious institutions; the unbroken line of apostolic succession that
traces back to the time of Christ. Just the fact alone that the Church
is still alive and well in spite of all of its sinful members ought to be
miracle enough for us.
But even with all of this testimony, it's important to remember that
seeing signs and believing in Jesus are not the same thing. Even
those who witnessed Jesus' miracles had to take the next step by
choosing to accept him as their Lord. Ultimately, all of these convincing details are not the point. The point is to encounter Jesus on a
personal level. The signs may open the door to bring us closer to
him, but it's up to us to walk through that door. May we walk so as
to come "to believe the Scripture."

Deacon Corner: (By Deacon Al)
Most of us think finding our life purpose means doing something we
truly love. It just seems natural to us and things just seem to fall into
place. But what if things are not so clear? What if we not sure what our
gifts are? What if we have not discovered any particular talent that
makes us think it could be our true calling in life? What if we are working or studying and we are good at it, but we just do not feel fulfilled? Is
this all there is for us? Is there all there is to life? We need not panic.
We are not alone. There are lots of people in the same boat. Take a look
at the disciples. If there ever was a diverse group, it was the disciples. Before Jesus came on the scene, they were fishermen, tax collectors, farmers, etc. The disciples must have been good at what they were
doing because they were feeding their families and making a living. St.
Paul was a devote Jew, well educated in the Torah and a true believer in
his faith. He even condoned the stoning of Stephen. Then they
met Jesus, and their true calling came into focus very quickly. What the
disciples and St. Paul did not know is that God wanted them to be happy. God wanted them to be happier than they had ever been. Following
God's plan for their lives made them happy and gave them purpose in
their lives.
Worship Corner
The Communion Rite: Our Father and Sign of Peace. We prepare to eat
and drink at the Lord’s table with those words taught us by Jesus: “Give
us this day our daily bread, / and forgive us our trespasses, / as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Keenly aware that communion (the
word means “union with”) is the sign and source of our reconciliation
and union with God and with one another, we make a gesture of union
and forgiveness with those around us and offer them a sign of peace.
CHRISTIAN FORMATION
Believe Out Loud! Live Your Faith!
L.I.F.E.
The Church teaches us that two spiritual strands weave together to form
the fabric of the season of Lent. One strand and the most familiar, is the
repentant character of Lent. Through the penitential practices of prayer,
fasting, and almsgiving we spend these forty days in the desert of repentance, preparing for the celebration of Easter.
However, the primary strand is the Baptismal character of this holy
season. The unbaptized spend Lent in preparation for their baptism and
most of us, the already baptized, spend this time preparing to renew the
promises —the covenant— established when we were baptized.
The next adult L.I.F.E. session will help us with our preparation for the
renewal of our baptismal covenant.

your sons and daughters in the family of the Church.
May your grace and love help our families in every part of the world be united in
one another in fidelity to the Gospel.
May the example of the Holy Family, with the aid of your Holy Spirit, guide all
families, especially those most troubled, to be homes of communion and prayer
and to always seek your truth and live in your love.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen Jesus, Mary and Joseph Pray for us!

This week at EDGE/LIFETEEN we discussed the third mark of the
Church, “Catholic.” The word “catholic” means universal. The teaching
for the session focused on the universal nature of the Church and the
mission of every person to share the message of Jesus Christ with the
whole world. We concluded with a time of prayer and reflection in front
of the Blessed Sacrament. Our next EDGE/LIFETEEN session will be
held this Monday, April 22nd, from 6:30-8:30pm. Our topic: The

REFLEXIONES
