Wolf Tracks Central Road School, 3800 W. Central Road, Rolling Meadows, IL 60008 (847) 963-5100 www.ccsd15.net/OurSchools/Elementary/HTML/centralroad.html From the Desk of Central Road Principal Jenny Garcia-Macko As I walked through our school the other day, I realized how proud I felt to be a member of the Central Road community. It is one thing to be the principal of a high-performing school, but to also be part of a giving, thoughtful learning community is just amazing. Our school participates in several fundraisers throughout the year including raising money to support families and communities impacted by natural disasters and other significant events. Central Road students learn about giving through volunteering at food banks, creating projects to raise the spirits of community members and collecting food items and clothing for those less fortunate. We have even raised money for a local animal shelter. While we do emphasize academic and social growth, we should all be proud of the lessons our young people are learning through their thoughtful giving of time and effort. This makes me very proud of our community. Over the next two weeks, students in grades 3 through 6 will be taking the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessment; the PARCC assessment replaced the Illinois Standards Achievement Tests (ISAT). The assessments are required under the No Child Left Behind legislation, which are used to create our school report card. PARCC will be one of the various methods we use to gauge the effectiveness of teaching and learning at Central Road. Please ensure that your Hot Off the PTA Press: Wolves It’s Cold Outside! Our wolves are having a hard time keeping warm, however, they are all finding great ways to do so! First, our hearts were warmed by the wonderful talent the Central Road students displayed on the “beach” in this years beach themed Talent Show. It was a splash! Thanks to all the people who made the show a great success! Valentine’s Day parties turned out to be a fun time, as always, with sweet treats and fun games. Another way our Wolves have been keeping warm is attending Rec Night. So far, all grades (except 2nd grade) have had a blast getting their energy out. We are looking forward to 2nd graders to enjoy Rec night on March 11th 6:30-7:30. Check backpacks on Friday, | Illinois PTA District 37 | Volume 18 | Issue #6 | March, 2015 child is getting an appropriate amount of sleep and a good breakfast each morning. Our students always do quite well on these assessments and we want them to be at their peak! Spring is a time of new beginnings. This month we will be issuing student progress reports for the second semester for students in grades 1 through 6. This is a great time to look at the information presented and set goals with your child for the end of the school year. For students in grades 2 through 6, this would also be a great time to ask about their individual MAP growth target. Your child may want to address academics, work habits, social development, attendance or even tardies. It is not enough to just set a goal. Talk to your child about what strategies you can both use to help your student meet those goals. Over the course of the last semester, set short-term goals, monitor them frequently and tweak the plan as needed! I need your help in getting your child to school each day on time. To expedite drop offs: 1) Please have students ready to get out of your vehicle as soon as you pull into the drop off line. 2) Please, if at all possible, remain in the car and have your child exit to the right of the vehicle. 3) Remind your child to only cross the cross walk with an adult 4) Please do not drop off on Central Road. I do appreciate your patience as we move cars, buses and students in and out of our lot. Safety is our number one priority and efficiency is certainly a goal. By Shannon Puleo March 13th for 1st-6th report cards. Mark your calendars for the Roller Skating Party on Thursday, March 19th at Orbit from 6:30-9:00 pm. Please let me or Jen Towsey know if you would like to shadow on these roles during THIS school year. Two years is the normal time to serve. Central Road PTA Page 3 March, 2015 A Special Message from the Talent Show Committee Conyers Learning Academy is gracious enough to let us rent out their facility in order for Central Road to put on an excellent Talent Show and this is how they are repaid; very sad and embarrassing. This is the second time this has happened to them and we are afraid that 3 strikes and we are out… which would mean the end of the Talent show. Let’s all work together to make sure this NEVER happens again. From CLA: Bad news.... some students must have gotten into the CLA storage area off of the gym on Saturday night. They turned on a faucet and left it running and the sink was clogged. Therefore, one of the CLA storage rooms flooded and items were damaged (mostly records). The CLA custodian realized it today when the water was seeping into the hallway. I know you try to keep students contained and you ask parents to do so as well but maybe we need a reminder. There is no way to know who did, nor does it matter at this point. However, we wanted you all to be aware of the situation. We ask that ALL parents talk to their children about respecting other people’s property and taking responsibility for their own actions. This is not the Central Road reputation we would like to leave behind and I hope that you would feel the same. Thank you for your understanding, W.H.O. (Wolves Helping Out), Central Road’s Community Service Committee, invites you to volunteer to pack food with the Feed My Starving Children organization (“FMSC”) on Saturday, March 14th from 4:30-6:30p with other Central Road families (ages 5 and up). FMSC is located at 1072 National Parkway in Schaumburg. For more information about this organization and their mission, please check out their website at www.fmsc.org. Email Mindy O’Brien at [email protected] to reserve your family’s spots ASAP. The 30 spots are filled on a first-come, firstserved basis! Please RSVP by March 7th. "Student Council is having a lot of fun organizing fun events and activities for our school. We hope you are all having as much fun doing them as we are planning them. Our annual food drive started out slow, but we all pulled together and reached our goal of over 1000 items. I still think that’s amazing and I’m proud of all we did. We’ve also had a lot of fun with our school store, and think you have too. We added a few new items that have been very popular. And who doesn’t love participating in all our school spirit days? It’s always so fun seeing so many of you dressing up and showing your school spirit. Now don’t worry, we haven’t used up all our good ideas yet, we have a lot more planned for the rest of the year, and I hope we continue to make it our best year yet! GO WOLVES!"
