Note from Fr. Colm
We have new appointment to the Parish of the Durham Martyrs. Fr.
Dan Fitzpatrick joins us in a few weeks’ time. This will change some
aspects of the present plans for the future, but again I reiterate, the
preparations already in place for the future will still remain. Fr. Dan is
here both to assist and gain invaluable experience. We welcome him
and look forward to him being a part of our parish team.
What a lovely new sign outside St. Godric’s Church. A fitting welcome
to parishioner and stranger alike.

Parish First Holy Communion

11.00am Mass at St. Joseph’s
today. Session 4 will take place

January, at 10.30am, following
which, they will join us at Mass.

St. Joseph’s Music Group –
new members needed - Do you
like singing? can you play an
instrument? If the answer is yes,
then why not come and sing or
play with St Joseph's Music
Group? We play in support of
11 a m S u n d a y M a s s a t S t
Joseph's once a fortnight and we
are looking for new members of
all ages (5 to 65) and abilities to
join us. We usually rehearse once
a month and for 30 minutes
before Mass starts. We are
particularly short of singers at the
moment. If you enjoy singing and
would like to join us then we
would love to hear from you even
if you are only here for a short
time. Please come and see us
after mass or email your details to
the Parish Secretary who will
forward them on to us.
Fundraising - Alexandra Mackie
will be selling home-made, slsfree soaps at the back of St.
Godric’s church, on Sunday,
15th February in support of the
Colombia Project.
Education Sunday –Sunday, 1st
February, is Education Sunday.
There will be a Special
Collection taken for Catholic
Education.
Diocesan Events
18 January – Faith Based Pub Talks – “What if Aliens Exist” by Professor David
Wilkinson, at the Londonderry Pub, Sunderland, SR1 3ES. Doors open at 7.30pm.

22nd January - Diocesan Holocaust Memorial Evening will be held at 7.00pm, at
St. Aidan's Catholic Academy, Willowbank Road, Sunderland. Guest speaker:
Holocaust Survivor, Mr. Arek Hersh, MBE. Bishop Seamus Cunningham, the
Mayor and Mayoress of Sunderland, Rabbi Aaron Lipsey, members of the Jewish
communities and representatives from other Christian denominations and faiths will
be present. See poster.
24th January - Day of Personal led prayer and reflection, held at St. Joseph's
Church. Fellgate. NE32 4PJ. St. Joseph's Church is very close to Fellgate metro
Station, on the line to Sunderland. 11am until 4pm. A time of adoration before the
Blessed Sacrament, creative prayer stations and a place to be with God and allow
him to be with you. In our busy lives, we are offering a space where you can take as
little or as much time in prayer as you want.
