Field Crop Scout School Saturday, March 7, 2015 Registration – 8:00 am Program – 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Scheman Building, Iowa State Center Ames, Iowa Instructors Bob Hartzler Extension weed specialist Iowa State University The Iowa State University Extension Field Crop Scout School is a comprehensive crop scouting course designed for individuals with little or no previous scouting experience and plan to work as crop scouts. The school provides an introductory, classroom approach to corn and soybean crop scouting in the Midwest. Primary topics include soybean growth and development, and disease, insect and weed identification. Additional topics include pesticide groups and modes of action along with common injury symptoms. Extension Field Agronomists will provide crop scouting tips and tricks in one session, and an overview of plant and pest samples available for students in the other. These samples will be available throughout the course for students to return to and review. Students will then attend general sessions that are shorter and focused on specific crop scouting skills. The course concludes with a review session covering the main concepts learned throughout the day. Iowa State University Extension Specialists, Field agronomists, and staff members will be available to review samples and answer questions.
