SS1041 TITLE OF POST: MANAGER – FULL TIME/PART TIME CHILDREN’S UNIT MAIN STREET CHILDRENS HOME ACCOUNTABLE TO: PRAXIS CARE BOARD REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR RESPONSIBLE FOR: Staff who provide care within a residential facility to children with a learning disability and complex behaviours in Conlig. JOB SUMMARY To efficiently manage and develop the residential unit in accordance with the aims and philosophy of the Scheme. The Manager is expected to give respect and dignity to the child within the project and maintain confidentiality within the organisation at all times. 1 2 Children and Young Persons (i) To facilitate the referral process to access services. (ii) To participate with the key worker in planning and developing individual programmes of care and be responsible for their implementation. (iii) To review the care provided through the L.A.C. arrangements in partnership with South Eastern Trust. (iv) To ensure the physical and personal needs of the young person is met. (v) To ensure that medication is held, stored and administered in accordance with Praxis Care’s policies and procedures. (vi) To intervene appropriately to resolve situations arising out of challenging behaviours/mental health difficulties. Staff will be fully trained in how to deal with these situations. (vii) To participate in the development of behaviour programmes in partnership with the South Eastern Trust Behavioural Support Team and be responsible for the implementation of same. Staff (i) To co-ordinate and contribute to the selection, recruitment and induction of staff to ensure that there is a team of both permanent and relief workers who will meet the needs of the scheme. (ii) To provide effective leadership, supervision and management of staff. (iii) To facilitate key workers in implementing individual programmes SS1041 of care for the child involved in the scheme. 3 4 5 (iv) To be responsible for the management of workloads and identifying and addressing staff development needs. (v) To personally contribute towards a happy and therapeutic environment and to the workings of a caring team. (vi) To keep detailed records with regard to annual leave, time in lieu and sick leave for all staff. Administration (i) To plan, prioritise, monitor and evaluate the work carried out in the project. (ii) To ensure that adequate records are maintained and monthly monitoring reports are produced. (iii) To organise efficient and effective duty rotas. (iv) To gather and extrapolate relevant information from statistics. (v) To ensure the implementation of effective budgetary controls. (vi) To have a sound knowledge of all the policies, standards and specifications of the project and to be able to monitor service quality through their implementation. (vii) To participate in matters concerning discipline, grievance, untoward incidents and complaints where required. (viii) To assess staff working to QCF qualifications to ensure national standards of care are being met. Meetings and Training (i) To work in partnership with carers, other professional staff, voluntary bodies and community groups in the furtherance of the young person’s needs. (ii) To initiate, plan and facilitate induction and training packages for all staff. (ii) To participate in conferences, courses, meetings organised/arranged by the management of Praxis Care. Office/Health and Safety (i) To be aware of and act in accordance with Praxis Care Health and Safety Policy. (ii) To conduct all activities in a manner which is safe to self and others. SS1041 6 General (i) To participate in a formal programme of supervision. This job description is not definitive or restrictive and will be subject to periodic review in the light of developments. It should be noted that the duties, designation and location of the post may be subject to changes to meet future needs of the Organisation. SS1041 CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 1 Location The post holder will initially be based in Main Street, Conlig, Bangor. Responsibility is on the employee to ensure that when using a car in the course of business, that proper insurance cover is acquired, and that the car is maintained in a roadworthy condition. A mileage allowance will be payable by the Organisation towards expenses. 2 Salary The salary for the post will be based on salary scale £29,124 - £36,033 per annum. NOTE: Candidates should be registered, or applying for registration, on the Northern Ireland Social Care Council. 3 Hours of Work Hours of work are 39 hours per week. Due to the nature of the work you will be required to be flexible and to work such hours as are necessary to complete the job. The majority of hours will be worked on a shift basis and unsocial hours will be involved. You will be required to participate in the consultancy service and on-call duties will be required. Sleep-in duties will be required. 4 Annual Leave Annual leave will be 23 days per annum, rising incrementally by one day each year, to reach a maximum of 30 days per annum, together with 10 statutory holidays. 5 Pension A contributory pension scheme is available. 6 Probationary Period / Notice Required There will be a 6 month probationary period, within which either side must give one month’s notice of terminating employment. Thereafter, the postholder will give two month’s notice. 7 Smoking Policy The Organisation is concerned about tobacco smoking and as a consequence a No Smoking Policy is in place. SS1041 8 Alcohol Policy There is a No Alcohol Policy. Staff should not consume alcohol before coming to work or whilst at work.
