President’s Message
for the trips and tours. Several
months ago we instituted a $5
surcharge which has been adopted by
the participants. Now we are having
people attend other activities who do
not wish to renew or take out a
membership. At our last Board
Meeting, the decision was made to
levy the same $5 over and above the
regular fee charged for the activity,
effective immediately. This is being
done to respect those who do
continue to renew their memberships.
January is almost over now and
February is upon us. There are not
too many days/weeks left for this
winter season. I hope that the warm
weather continues and then we won’t
feel envious of those that have
travelled to warmer areas of the
world.
I have just suffered through the
cough that lasts for a long time. I
can empathize with you on this one
since I rarely get sick, but I am on
the mend, unless I have a relapse like
some of you have.
Again, have a wonderful month.
Here’s a bouquet to you all.
February has several days to
remember. The first is Valentine’s
Day, a day to share with loved ones,
be it family or friends. We all need to
feel appreciation and love and to
share the same with others. We are
blessed to have our Go-Getters
family.
Vi Sommerfeld
President
The second day of importance is
Family Day. What plans have you
made for the day? Maybe visiting
with children or grandchildren, or
shopping with them? Since my family
does not live close by, I will be
phoning them to see how they are
doing.
NEXT
Mark Twain said, “To get the full
value of joy you must have people to
divide it with.” February seems to be
a good month to do that.
February 9th at 1:30 p.m.
The Go-Getters promotes many
activities for the members at a
nominal fee. Sometimes family
members or friends wish to register

…And Then, the Lights
Went Out
By Andy Garland
“The clever plot-line is full
of unexpected turns.” Red Deer Advocate
Written by an Alberta-born and educated playwright and set in Edmonton during a heat wave,
“And Then, the Lights Went Out” is a chilling saga of dames, deceit and writer’s block. Staring
down an impossible deadline, author Thomas Levine is starting to unravel. Whether brought on
by the heat or the stress, the fictional characters from his detective novel-in-progress are dropping
in on him in his apartment, offering literary advice and drinking all of his liquor. With the
publisher breathing down his neck and the landlady clamoring for the rent, Thomas will have to
find some way to pull it all together and write himself out of this mess… before the lights go out.
