EMERY: [email protected] A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PASTOR We are told today that Jesus teaches with authority and we know that his authority comes from God. Let's face it, most of us do not like authority- it is usually seen as something that stifles us and restricts us. Left on our own, we want to do what we want. However, submitting to Jesus' authority is what makes us disciples. He has the authority to teach, to remove unclean spirits, to forgive sins and to restore life. All that Jesus does is part of God's plan to restore humanity's broken relationship with him. Do we really believe that Jesus can work in our lives? He has the power to remove those things that keep us from being the person God wants us to be. He has the power to rid us of the demons of useless worry and anxiety that St. Paul speaks about today. God has given Jesus power and authority over all things. When we trust in that authority and in his love for us, he can help us to be free to serve him as true disciples. In Christ, Msgr. Emery THE SACRIFICIAL GIVING OF OUR PARISHONERS Due to the Storm this will be reported in the next bulletin. God won’t necessarily give you everything you want, but he will provide everything you need. Try this – use the word “pray” instead of the word “worry” in the future. Reflections on the Catechism “Calling the Disciples” 2173 The Gospel reports many incidents when Jesus was accused of violating the Sabbath law. But Jesus never fails to respect the holiness of this day. He gives this law its authentic and authoritative interpretation: “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” With compassion, Christ declares the Sabbath for doing good rather than harm, for saving life rather than killing. The Sabbath is the day of the Lord of mercies and a day to honor God. “The Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath” (Mary Jane Tannen 13th of the Month Club) THE FOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP PLEASE CONTINUE TO THINK OF THOSE LESS FORTUNATE AND DROP OFF A FEW BAGS OR A CASE OF ANY OF THESE ITEMS: CEREAL,OATMEAL PASTA,SAUCE MAC AND CHEESE COFFEE,TEA,HOT CHOCOLATE CANNED FRUIT,VEGGIES SOUP TUNA,SPAM CANNED PASTA PEANUT BUTTER JELLY PAPER TOWELS,TOILET PAPER ALL DONATIONS CAN BE LEFT OUTSIDE OF THE FOOD PANTRY DOOR WHICH IS OFF THE 4TH STREET ENTRANCE. 2015 Anniversary Liturgies We are once again preparing the annual tradition of honoring those couples in our Archdiocese who will be celebrating five, twenty-five and fifty years of Christian marriage in the year 2015. Myers in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark as follows: April 19, 2015 3:00pm 50 years (All Counties) May 3, 2015 3:00 pm 25 years and 5 years (All Counties) If you wish to participate in either mass please call Anne Moore at the parish office 973-763-5454 she will need your 1st & last names, date of marriage and your address.
