FRIEDENS UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST SUMNEYTOWN, PA M U R O F S N E FRIED January & February 2015 PASTOR’S MESSAGE Advent and Christmas have kept us all very busy. As always, it has been a privilege and joy for me to share it with the people of Friedens. The Christmas readings provoke in me the familiar images ….of people walking in darkness, seeing a great light…of God coming to us as a baby in a lowly manger…of Isaiah’s prophesy proclaimed in the magnificent title’s of Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Inside this issue: Father, Prince of Peace. The power of these images in the biblical texts is that we are Pastor Message 1 invited to hear a “new song”. They are words full of possibilities we have not seen and Birthdays 2 cannot even imagine. At times it is a struggle for us to really hear that as they fall on us Calendars 5 when we are dealing with the formidable distractions that come with the secular and Worship Leaders 6 cultural demands of the holiday. That is why I think it’s important look back on what we have seen and heard throughout Christmastide….and as we embark on another year marked by the secular calendar….try to incorporate a “new song” into our everyday lives. It is the one place where I think that the secular calendar and church calendar fit together very nicely. From Christmas to New Special Points Year…..the promise of newness in our lives together in the coming of the Christ leading Mission s R us right into a “new” year….presents us with an opportunity to connect the power of our faith Women’s Fellowship 3 with our journey into another year. Fastnachts 4 Lenten Reminder 6 Hoagie & Soup Sale 6 It is my prayer that the faithful people at Friedens will have a New Year that is blessed with all the wonder filled possibilities heralded by the coming of our Savior. Blessing in Christ to you all, Rev.
