the recent injury of the 14-yearold boy in Duraz, a human

There is no official

Saudi
woman who attempted
to smuggle two kilogrammes
of hashish into Bahrain has
been sentenced to 10 years
in prison. The convict was
caught on the King Fahd

last year in July. Her 17-year-old daughter
accompanied her. The Saudi
woman was in the vehicle that
belonged to an Indian driver
who she hired to transport her
from her country to Bahrain,
and she claimed the drugs
belonged to him.
However, an oral test
detected traces of the same
hidden drugs in the woman’s
saliva, while the Indian man’s
result came out negative.
Therefore,
prosecutors
concluded that the driver had
no knowledge of the hashish
and sent the woman to trial.
“She requested me to

driver said in his statement.

A
ll of us want financial
freedom. We want to live
a life where we do not have
stress, anxiety and concern
about money.
Though spiritual way of life
would tell us don’t rely on money
for your happiness and freedom,
to live in society we need money
for food, clothing, shelter
and few other requirements.
Unfortunately for many of us
even after we have sufficient
money for our basic needs, we
don’t achieve financial freedom.
Our insecurity, concerns and
anxiety for money still remains.
First step towards achieving
financial freedom is deciding
our financial goals. We should
make a list of our future
financial
responsibilities
and dreams. Majority of us
stumble at this first step. We
don’t have the list. Even if we
have, it is not articulated or
not made in conjunction with
spouse and family members.
At this stage struggle is
between us and our conscious
mind. Our conscious mind
resists making a list. Mind
would give us variety of
excuses e.g. I know my
requirements at the back of
the mind hence there is no
need to write it down, I don’t
have large wealth; therefore
entire exercise is futile, there
is no need to include my wife
as I am the sole earner, my
income is not consistent and
hence it is not worthwhile
the efforts etc. As a planner I
encounter variety of excuses
but the fact remains that we
need money for future and
there is need to articulate
those needs.
For those who over come
conscious mind and make
a list face struggle with
sub-conscious mind to take
actions that will help us
achieve our financial goals.
This is a bigger struggle. We
face this struggle in many
walks of life. Let us discuss
few areas where we struggle
with our sub-conscious mind.
Most of us decide to live
healthy life, may it be eating
healthy food, exercising
regularly, sleeping early etc.
These are decisions related
to physical aspect. We also
make some rules for our
social life e.g. I will meet my
friends regularly, call elders on
auspicious days etc. Similarly
many decide on leading
spiritual life for mental and
emotional peace.
Above are list of goals which
we decide because our
conscious mind is convinced
that they are good for our well
being. Even after knowing
consciously most of the
time we end up struggling
following them. The main
reason is the revolt by our
sub-conscious mind.
Check out how many times in
lives we would have listened
to nice discourse and decide
to live that way and yet
moment we come out of it,
we do things exactly opposite.
Again this is because our
conscious mind listened to
something and appreciated
it. It also felt that living that
way is in our benefit but our
sub-conscious mind did not
remained synchronised with
our thought process and went
back to our old habits and
behaviour.
Habits are our best friends
and worst enemies. It takes
long to develop habits and
equally long to modify
them. Some of the habits
are formed since childhood
looking at our elders, many
has been developed due to
our friends and acquaintance
and yet there are some
which are formed based on
surroundings e.g. impact of
media, society we live in etc.
Habits are also formed based
on what we speak to our mind.
If we keep saying I am frugal
person, we will live frugally.
Ask all those individuals who
invariably struggle to keep
up time or be punctual. They
invariable tell their mind,
everyone comes late or busy
people come late or it is okay
if we go late; world will not
fall apart. Instead of saying it
is not appropriate to go late,
they give themselves excuses.
They justify their behaviour
and soon their mind starts
Do you feel strongly about commenting on
any issue of social relevance or on any report we
carried? Be it bouquets
or bricks, you can explore
this space by airing
your views, opinions or
comments. The best letter,

behaving that way. Instead of
saying it is okay to go late, if
they keep saying I will put in
more efforts to be on time,
soon they will start becoming
punctual.
Similarly people who don’t
keep their word, use excuses
like, I am flexible and amend
based on circumstances; there
is no point being rigid.
Our mind starts believing and
behaving the way train it.
If we want financial freedom
or for that matter achieve
things in life, first make
our goals. Second train our
subconscious mind to take
actions consistently to achieve
those goals. It will take time.
Initially subconscious mind will
resist and will not let us change
habit. However if we keep
persisting, slowing and steadily
it will modify. Remember the
story of turtle and hare – ‘Slow
and steady wins the race.’
Only way to develop a habit
is to keep doing it repeatedly.
Initially to develop new habit
keep reminding our self e.g.
write down or draw a picture
or photograph etc and place
it in a manner that it stays in
front of our eyes and whenever
we are free keep visualising
it. All these will affect our
subconscious mind.
All those individuals who keep
list of their goals in front of
their eyes, either written or
pictorial are most likely to take
appropriate action to achieve
them. If they keep taking
appropriate action repeatedly
it will become habit. If that
appropriate action becomes
habit, they will eventually
achieve their goal.

A FAREWELL TO ALL THAT
B
ritain, as it faces up to a general election in less than 100 days, appears to be
a bit obsessed by historic wars.
I find this a bit surprising given our lack of interest in recent conflicts we
have been involved in.
This is probably down to the fact that there are a lot of people currently in
politics who are not too happy about being called to account about invading
Afghanistan and bombing Iraq.
But we will get back to that later.
On the historic front apparently we are about to celebrate a victory of 200
years ago at the battle of Waterloo.
This saw the ultimate defeat of Napoleon and if you are British you tend to
know it was won by a guy called Wellington.
Outside of the UK he is only famous for wearing rubber boots which are very
handy for keeping out the damp in this part of the world.
His other claim to fame is that he served two terms as a British prime
minister, in spite of being Irish.
But he is hardly an internationally renowned figure like Napoleon so I can’t
for the life of me understand why we are getting excited about Waterloo. In fact
only about one third of the troops who fought the French were British.
But apparently it is a cornerstone of our history which we must celebrate
in June in spite of the fact that very few people know where Waterloo is. Most
people associate it more with a remarkably unforgettable hit song by a bad
Scandinavian band who won the Eurovision Song contest back in the year dot.
On another historic front we have just celebrated the 50th anniversary of the
death Winston Churchill.
Now Winston, like Wellington, was twice a British prime minister and was
largely admired for his leadership of the country during World War Two.
But no sooner had the dust settled after that conflict than he was dispatched
to the opposition in the largest Labour Party landslide until Tony Blair.
Actually, as a politician he was a bit of a disaster.
As Chancellor he took Britain back onto the Gold Standard in the 1920s
which plunged us into our longest recession until now and in his second term
in charge he kept trying to start wars all over the globe to keep the British
Empire intact.
Other than that he spent most of his youth fighting conflicts across territories
in the British Empire and further afield.
He spent most of his adult life, whether in government or opposition, drunk.
When he died 50 years ago he got the largest state funeral of anyone
anywhere in the world.
That should have been enough for anyone, but for whatever reason we are
now celebrating his death again.
Now at a time when we are still partners in the European Union, albeit
outside the eurozone, bringing up military victories against France and
Germany in the run up to an election strikes me as somewhat divisive.
After all only the UK Independence party is opposed to being friends with
Europe.
The government is only offering a referendum on the issue to shut up
recalcitrant xenophobic back benchers while all the other political parties
contesting the election are strongly pro - Europe.
Which brings me back from our celebration of old rather than recent history
and our reasons for our invasion of Iraq.
The government and opposition are probably a bit embarrassed about why
we went to war with Iraq.
There are two reasons for this.
The first is that we went to war on a lie. The second is that practically no
one would argue the war has made the world or the Middle East a safer place.
So neither the Tories or Labour is particularly upset that six years after
they agreed to hold an inquiry into why we went to war, the report is still not
completed and will not be published this side of the election.
That rather appeals to both main parties, as they would happily see this part
of our history swept under the carpet.
In fact the other day when leading politicians were appearing at Churchill
photo opportunities, only 40 MPs turned up to debate the non-publication of
the Chilcot Iraq Inquiry.
Sadly for some, one of them was the Respect MP George Galloway who
opposed the war from day one and was even kicked out of the Labour Party
for his stance.
It was quite a Churchillian performance which suggests that over the next
three months in the run up to the election Iraq and the Middle East will very
clearly still be on the agenda.

n order to travel, sound needs any of the three
states of matter as a medium (solid, liquid

sound to travel. We all know that the space is
nearly a perfect vacuum. Because of this vacuum,
the sound cannot travel in space and we cannot
hear any sound in space.

blue, green, yellow, orange and red. Of these colours, red has

What You'll Need
1.
pipe cleaners
2.
pasta
3.
pony beads
4.
containers (to sort beads)
How to make it:
Gather the materials, and sort them according
to different colours.
Start off by fastening a loop at the bottom of the
pipe cleaner so you have an end to catch the beads
as you bead.
Now the fun part: Bead the pipe cleaners to make their
bracelets! This activity also works on fine motor skills too:
fitting the beads and the pasta on the pipe cleaners.
As you got about 3/4 of the way up the pipe cleaner,
take the end of the pipe cleaner through the loop to
latch them together and wove the excess pip cleaner
through the last bead.
And there you have it: some beautiful bangles
to adorn your wrist!

N
atural curiosity and an
eagerness to investigate
the world of science, were
very much in evidence during
the Year 5 students visit to
the Bahrain Science Centre.
Whilst some children
took the opportunity to
test their physical strength,
others examined their senses
of sight and hearing. They
were also able to challenge
their reaction times and
memories. For some strange
reason, lying on a bed of
nails proved irresistible to a
number of children!
Other highlights included
watching the formation of
‘tornadoes’ in smoke, and
waves in water. Some children
were also fortunate enough to
be given a demonstration of
the effects of static electricity.
Richard Marshall, Year 5
Leader, said, “This was an
excellent opportunity for us
to involve with some practical
science investigations that
complemented much of the
work we have been doing in
school. The Bahrain Science
Centre is well worth a visit!”

Short story
A
mother duck and her little
ducklings were on their way to
a lake one day. The ducklings were
very happy following their mother
and quack-quacking along the way.
All of a sudden the mother duck
saw a fox at a distance. She was
frightened and shouted, “Children,
hurry to the lake. There’s a fox!”
The ducklings hurried towards
the lake. The mother duck wondered
what to do. She began to walk back
and forth dragging one wing on the
ground.
When the fox saw her he became
happy. He said to himself, “It seems
that she’s hurt and can’t fly! I can
easily catch and eat her!” Then he
ran towards her.
The mother duck ran, leading the
fox away from the lake. The fox
followed her. Now he wouldn’t be
able to harm her ducklings. The
mother duck looked towards her
ducklings and saw that they had
reached the lake. She was relieved, so
she stopped and took a deep breath.
The fox thought she was tired
and he came closer, but the mother
duck quickly spread her wings and
rose up in the air. She landed in the
middle of the lake and her ducklings
swam to her.
The fox stared in disbelief at the
mother duck and her ducklings. He
could not reach them because they
were in the middle of the lake.
Dear children, some birds drag
one of their wings on the ground
when an enemy is going to attack.
In this way they fool their enemies
into thinking they are hurt.
When the enemy follows them
this gives their children time to
escape.

YOUR STAR TODAY
ARIES
20th March - 20th April
A social event could bring
you into contact with some
interesting people in fascinating
fields, Aries, some from distant places.
Discussions could turn you on to one
or more new interests, which you will
probably want to pursue later.
LEO
20th July - 20th Aug
Much of your day may be
spent running around your
neighbourhood, Leo, perhaps in
the company of your partner. You may
have a lot of errands to run, or perhaps
you’re just antsy and unwilling to spend
the day indoors.
SAGITTARIUS
20th Nov - 20th Dec
You tend to be an adventurous soul by nature, Sagittarius.
Today the desire to do something you’ve never done before could
be overwhelming. You might toy with
outrageous ideas like learning to skydive or bungee jump.
TAURUS
20th April - 20th May
You might decide to try a new
and ambitious exercise programme. Take care not to push
yourself past your limits. A heightened
sense of adventure combines with a powerful desire to be fit, and it might drive you to
exhaustion if you aren’t careful.
VIRGO
20th Aug - 20th Sept
A financial windfall might
come your way, Virgo. This
may not be a lottery win or surprise inheritance. It’s probably something you’ve worked hard for, but more
than you expected. As a result, you
could walk around in a daze for much
of the day.
CAPRICORN
20th Dec - 20th Jan
If you’ve been thinking about
studying astrology, Capricorn,
this is the day to do it. Even if you
already know the field, you might decide
to branch out into a newer or more radical aspect, such as Draconic or galactic
astrology.
GEMINI
20th May - 20th June
Are you involved in an ambitious, creative project of some
kind, Gemini? You might have so
much to do that you decide to take on a
partner, if you haven’t already. When you
and this person work together, the whole
is definitely greater than the sum of the
parts.
LIBRA
20th Sep - 20th Oct
You’re probably feeling full
of energy, Libra, and looking
for an outlet for it aside from
the usual jog or workout. A hike along
a scenic path would be just the thing.
Phone a friend and see if you can arrange to do it together.
AQUARIUS
20th Jan - 20th Feb
Your innate sense of adventure is active today, Aquarius. Travel is on your mind. You
and some friends may kick around
ideas for an unconventional trip to
an exotic place, such as sailing to Tahiti. The urge could pass, but it might
not.
CANCER
20th June - 20th July
The desire to improve your
home’s appearance might
suddenly come over you today,
Cancer. Whether you’re planning some
redecorating, landscaping, refurnishing, or simply a thorough cleaning, you
will probably take the bull by the horns
and concentrate on nothing else.
SCORPIO
20th Oct - 20th Nov
Your subconscious mind is
active today, Scorpio, perhaps
releasing old traumas from the
past. Memories from long ago could
pour into your mind as though floodgates were opened. Many of them won’t
be pleasant.
PISCES
20th Feb - 20th Mar
Career matters may involve
some touchy circumstances
that require ingenious methods to solve, Pisces. You’re in the right
frame of mind to come up with them.
You’re definitely up for a challenge, and
you will probably dig right in and come
up with lots of great ideas.

resident Barack Obama’s
recent trip to India raised
questions about the wife of
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi—a woman whose life
is shrouded in mystery. While
the U.S. president appeared
at the extravagant Republic

Michelle Obama, the Indian
first lady, if she can even be
called that, was absent, to
no-one’s surprise.
Mr. Modi lives as a single
man though, technically, he
isn’t. While filing his election
nomination papers this past
April, he admitted publicly
for the first time that he was

Subsequently, it came to
light that he and his wife,
Jashodaben Chimanlal Modi,
had married when she was

years into the marriage, he
distanced himself from his
wife, threw himself into his
work as a campaigner for
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh

organization, and then joined
politics. Jashodaben became a
schoolteacher and, like him,
never remarried.
Now retired and in her

pain’s Catholic church, which
has long been accused of
silencing cases of priests sexually
abusing children, is starting to
take a hard line against offenders,
spurred by Pope Francis.
A judge in the southern city of
Granada on Tuesday charged 10
priests and two Catholic lay workers
with sexually abusing altar boys
in their care, or being complicit in
such acts, from 2004 to 2007.
It is the biggest and most
serious paedophilia case involving
members of the Catholic Church
known so far in Spain.
The case was brought to light by
a former altar boy, now 25 and a
member of the Catholic institution
Opus Dei, who wrote to the pontiff
to say he had been molested.
Pope Francis called the
unidentified man to offer the
Church’s apology and in November
the pontiff said he had ordered a
church investigation into the case,
saying it had caused him “great
pain”.
The young man who wrote to
the pope “never imagined the issue
would take on the significance
that it did,” said his lawyer, Jorge
Aguilera Gonzalez.
“If it wasn’t for the pope’s
intervention, it would still have
been an important issue, but just
one of many.”
Pope Francis has taken a tough
stance on clerical child abuse since
taking over in 2013 from Benedict
XVI, calling it “the shame of the
Church”.
The Catholic Church had huge
influence in Spain during Francisco
Franco’s 1939-75 dictatorship and
for decades victims kept quiet
about abuse “due to social pressure,
the power of the Church”, said Jose
Manuel Vidal, head of religious
news website Religion Digital.
That explains why, unlike in
Germany, Ireland, Mexico or the
United States, until now no major
cases of paedophilia involving
priests have come to light in Spain
even though abuse took place.
Nine percent of all sexual abuse
suffered by boys between 1950 and
1970 was carried out by priests,
according to a 1994 study by
University of Salamanca psychology
of sexuality professor Felix Lopez
for the Ministry of Social Affairs.
The abuse often took place in
boarding schools, as depicted in
Oscar-winning Spanish director
Pedro Almodovar’s 2004 film “Bad
Education.”

Tests long-range missile from mobile launcher
New Delhi
ndia on Saturday succeeded for the
first time in using a mobile launcher
to test-fire a long-range missile capable of
delivering a nuclear warhead deep inside
rival China.
Although Saturday’s launch was the
third test of the Agni V missile, it was the
first time the weapon had been fired from
a so-called canister mounted on a truck
rather than from a concrete launchpad
used in previous trials.
The new delivery mechanism gives
the armed forces increased operational
flexibility.
“Successful test-firing of Agni V from
a canister makes the missile a prized asset
for our forces,” Prime Minister Narendra
I
Modi said on Twitter after the test on an
island off the eastern state of Orissa.
The Agni V - developed by India’s
Defence Research and Development
Organisation - was first tested in April
2012.
Analysts say the Agni V has the range to
strike any target on the Chinese mainland,
including military installations in the far
northeast.
India sees the rocket, which has a range
of 5,000 kilometres (3,100 miles), as a key
boost to its regional power aspirations and
one that narrows -- albeit slightly -- the
huge gap with China’s missile systems.
While the shorter-range Agni I and II
were mainly developed with traditional
rival Pakistan in mind, analysts say later
versions with a longer range reflect the
shift in India’s focus towards China.

Former German president
dies at 94: Official
Berlin
Former German president
Richard von Weizsaecker,
hailed for his moral leadership in post-war Germany,
died, the president’s office said
Saturday. He was 94.
Weizsaecker, a member of
German chancellor Angela
Merkel’s Christian Democrat
party, played a major role in
Germany’s handling of its Nazi
past, calling May 8, 1945, a day
of “liberation” for his country
rather than a surrender.

This recipe was created by Angela Hartnett
specifically for the Great British Budget Banquet
Dinner and shows you how to get more value from a
roast chicken by using the carcass to make stock for
a fragrant rice.
INGREDIENTS:
1 small whole chicken
2 tbsp freshly grated ginger
1 tbsp ground cumin
30ml/2 tbsp vegetable oil
½ tbsp dried thyme (if using fresh allow for 1 tbsp
thyme leaves)
Salt and black pepper
1 courgette, thickly sliced on the diagonal
1 red pepper, deseeded and sliced into wedges
200g/7oz of long grain rice
1 large cinnamon stick
1 bay leaf
3 cardamom pods
125g/4½oz green raisins
1 lemon, zest and juice
1 lime, zest and juice
To serve
PREPARATION
Preheat the oven to 200C/400F/Gas 6.
Joint the chicken removing the breasts, legs and
wings. Place the remaining carcass in a large saucepan
and cover with water to make a stock. Bring to the boil
then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
In a small bowl, mix together the grated ginger and
cumin with the oil, thyme and a pinch of salt and
pepper to make a paste. Place the chicken pieces into
a large roasting tray and cover evenly with the paste.
Place the courgette and peppers around the chicken
pieces, then roast for 30-40 minutes on the top shelf
of the oven, or until the chicken is cooked and goldenbrown.
Strain the chicken stock and discard the carcass,
season to taste with salt and pepper.
Cover the rice with 500ml/18fl oz stock (from the
chicken carcass) and add the cinnamon stick, bay
leaf and cardamom. Cook with the lid on over a high
heat for 15 minutes. Towards the last five minutes of
cooking time add the raisins.
Check that the rice is cooked, strain off any excess
liquid and remove the bay leaf and spices. Add the
zest and juice of the lemon and lime. Mix through and
season to taste with salt and pepper.
Serve the roasted chicken pieces and roasted
vegetables on a bed of the spiced rice. Garnish with
a sprinkling of chopped toasted nuts and sliced
spring onions. Finish with a little chopped coriander
if desired.
