Bahrain slump to 4th straight loss THERE was a disappointingly familiar atmosphere around Bahrain Rugby Football Club (RFC) in Saar on Friday evening after the club’s first XV lost a fourth successive game in the Gulf Top Six. Amazingly though, Bahrain failed to make any more of their numerical advantage and instead, it was the 13 men of Abu Dhabi who struck a killer blow with a converted try from skipper Phil Abraham. Soon after, the Bahrain boys were under their own posts in disbelief after watching Quins’ wing Chris Marshall meander through a host of attempted tackles for a lengthof-the-field to score and it remained 3-14 until the half-time break. The famous Bahrain support did all it could to spur the boys on in the second-half but unfortunately for them, it was the visitors who got the next and crucial score through powerhouse centre Clendon Pene, after a neat midfield move. Nobody can argue that this Bahrain outfit is anything but a gritty and spirited one and they finally reaped some reward for their efforts when number eight Tom Jankowski touched down for his third try in as many weeks off the back of a driving maul. Wallace added the conversion to get his side at 10-21 but Quins responded in kind with a bonus point-clinching try from Phil Brady and then a long-range penalty from former Munster playmaker Jeremy Manning. The visitors were again reduced to 14 men before the end and Bahrain scrum-half Rob Bennett capitalised with his second try for the club but the final word was left to Manning, who coolly slotted a neat drop goal to finish 17-32. ZUHAIR Ibrahim and n Zuhair Abdulla Jaber Al Beladi from in action Group A qualified for the second round in the snooker section of the Bahrain Billiards and Snooker League 20142015. The others to qualify are Talal Jassim Matar and Sadiq Abdulghani from Group B, Hussain Al Aradi and Hussain Al Maynas from Group C, Hassan Raouf and Ishaq Abdulkhaleq from Group D, Hisham Sager and Majid Dhaif from Group E, Younis Sager and Abdulmoneam Al Shuwaikh from Group F, Yahya Hassan and Abdulla Mejairan from Group G and Eyad Al Ansari and Ricky from Ali Abdulkarim 13-11, Fares AbGroup H. dulkarim defeated Ahmed Khalaf In billiards, Abdulla Isa defeated 13-7 and Hassan Salman defeated Raed Ahmed 13-6, Hussain Sabah Ahmed Yousif 13-8. defeated Sayed Ahmed Al AlaMeanwhile, the general secretary wi 13-11, Fahad Khalaf defeated of Bahrain Billiards and Snooker Association Mohammed Al Murbati said the league is the final stage for the national team players to prepare for the West Asian Billiards and Snooker Championship to be held in UAE from February 21 to 28. Yet again, the Bahrain team enjoyed plenty in way of possession and domination but could not find the killer accuracy to put away UAE Premiership champions Abu Dhabi Harlequins, despite the visitors being shown three yellow cards over the course of the match. Bahrain went into the game on the back of a much improved performance – albeit in defeat – against Doha last week and determined to earn a much-needed win against a Quins side that had not been hitting its usual high standards up to that point. The early pressure was all from the home side which forced the Quins into a succession of penalties, resulting in the first sin-binning. Within minutes, the visitors were down to 13 men, thanks to another yellow card infringement at the ruck and skipper Adam Wallace duly stroked over the resultant penalty.
