Mission Statement:
St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives
through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are
sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God’s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and
dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations
and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all
people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable.
In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the “good news”
of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action.

Bulletin Reflection
Moses told the people, “A prophet like me will the Lord, your
God, raise up for you from among your own kinsmen.” God
still provides among His people the gifts and talents necessary
to continue the work of His Church. What gifts are
yours to share?
Living Stewardship
We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who
set time aside with the Sunday Readings throughout the week
so as to be better prepared to hear the Word of God
and act on it.
February 1-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time:
In the Gospel today we read that because Jesus spoke with
authority his reputation spread throughout the surrounding
region of Galilee. As his disciples, we can also speak with
authority when we put our faith into actions by
helping the poor and suffering.
Have you considered answering the call to
serve the poor by joining the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul?
SUNDAY READINGS for next week, February 1st
Deuteronomy 18:15–20
Moses declares that God will give the people a prophet “from
among their kin” but includes the warning that failure to heed
this prophet will result in death.
1 Corinthians 7:32–35
Paul encourages the Church to be free of everyday worries
and distracƟons—even right responsibiliƟes of family—that
tempt them away from their ulƟmate call to discipleship.
Mark 1:21–28
A man possessed with an unclean spirit confronts Jesus in the
synagogue. Jesus exorcises the spirit, and his power aƩracts
the aƩenƟon of many in Galilee.
Send us your email if you would like to start
receiving “Bringing Home the Word”, a weekly message
based on the Sunday Scripture readings.

RESPECT LIFE NEWS
Jesus tells us to love one another. This
love for one another is greatly evident as
you continue to lovingly place donations
in the crib in our St. Francis of Assisi
Baby Corner. Our families wish to thank
you for all your help which has been
possible through your great generosity.
Every baby item and dollar helps us to answer each call with
love, prayers, and much needed baby items. We praise God
through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St.
Francis for all you do for all our precious babies. Thank you
for helping to fill our white crib throughout the year.
Pope Francis once again sent a Twitter message expressing
his solidarity with the hundreds of thousands of people who
marched in America last week for a culture of life and an
end to abortion: “Every Life is a Gift,” he tweeted in English
on January 22nd.
Our St. Francis of Assisi Baby Corner greatly appreciates
contributions of Huggies and Pampers diapers sizes 4, 5, and
6, unscented baby wipes, unscented baby wash, baby
coupons, and money. Thank you! Need assistance? Wish to
join our St. Francis of Assisi Respect Life Committee?
Please call our rectory at 631-757-7435.
Check out trailer for “The Drop Box”, a most touching
movie in which a pastor starts a drop box for abandoned
babies. View the full trailer at www.thedropbox film. There
will be a limited showing of the movie in theaters
March 3-5, 2015.
Intercessions for Life: Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

day. We all are called to witness to life in whatever job and
setting God places us.” ~Life Matters: Call to Greatness,
