SACRED SPACES ON CAMPUS
The Oasis Prayer Room - The Oasis is an interfaith prayer room located in the basement of Wesley Hall. It is
a place to rest, relax, renew, and refresh. It has a table to study, bean bag chairs, a fountain in the corner, a religious
library, and more. It is available for religious student groups, or individuals for quiet reflection, prayer, and meditation.
College Place United Methodist Church - Hours Worship: 11 a.m. on Sunday, Church School 10 a.m. on
Sunday; Office hours 8:30-3:30 – Wednesday only. Located at 4801 Colonial Dr., Columbia, SC, 29203, call (803)

Mitzi’s Prayer Labyrinth & Meditation Garden - When Mitzi Winesett ’70 passed away on November 26,
2012, after a lengthy battle with cancer, Columbia College lost a beloved staff member (school counselor), alumna,
and friend. Thanks to the generosity of Southern Mutual Church Insurance, and the many friends and family
members that Mitzi left behind, Columbia College has preserved her legacy through an on-campus prayer labyrinth
and meditation garden, located in the courtyard between the Wil Lou Gray building and College Place United
Methodist Church. This quiet place of spiritual reflection will pay tribute to a woman who gave immeasurable gifts of
time, talent, and passion to the school she so adored.

C SPIRITUAL
LEADERS
NURTURING SPIRIT, BUILDING COMMUNITY
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------RELIGIOUS AND SPIRITUAL LIFE INCENTIVE PROGRAM
What? – Beginning in the Spring 2014, we issued “participation punchcards” for those attending religious and
spiritual life events (chapels, films, and field trips). This is to acknowledge those that do participate and commit to
“nurturing spirit and building community” through the various programs offered by the Office of the Chaplain, and
to simply encourage participation.
*1 card (10 punches per card) – get a free devotional booklet from the Chaplain’s office (several to choose from)
*2 cards – get a free t-shirt
*3 cards – get a special cord to wear at graduation recognizing you as a “C2 Spiritual Leader”
Why? – We believe that religious and spiritual activities that “nurture spirit and build community” are vitally
important on our campus. We also understand spiritual growth, theological exploration, moral development, and
the expression of one's religious faith as central components to fulfilling the purposes of a liberal arts education.
While Chapel attendance is no longer a requirement at Columbia College, it remains strongly encouraged. Chapel
time is one of the few moments within the week that we have as students, faculty, and staff to join together as the
Columbia College community to reflect upon one’s values, beliefs, and morals, and renew one’s spirit within the
context of this community.
How? – Simply pick up one of the “Religious and Spiritual Life Events” punchcards at chapel and get one punch
for each event that you attend. It is your responsibility to write your name on the card, keep up with it, and simply
turn them in to the Office of the Chaplain when they are full. Get started today!
(Faculty and staff eligible for books and t-shirts as well).
Graduating Seniors? – Many of you have been faithful to attend and support the religious and spiritual
life events on campus. Because our policies have changed in your time here, we want to offer you an
opportunity to earn a graduation “C2 Spiritual Leader” cord too. You only need 15 “stamps” to receive a
cord.
