Jesus instructed His disciples, “Follow Me and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19) I like fishing. I have fished from the narrow creek banks in Central Texas to the broad currents of the Kenai River in Alaska. I have fished for bass in Alabama ponds and I have pulled in amberjacks adjacent to oil rigs in the Gulf. I catch fish and move them from life to death. Jesus catches people and moves them from death to life! God’s Word explains, “We are dead in our trespasses and sin.” So Jesus catches us to rescue us! The members of Team Impact essentially serve as expert fishers for people. Their feats of strength connected with sharing the gospel forms a net to catch people for Christ and lead them from death into eternal life. During our Team Impact Evangelism Focus thousands of visitors came to First Baptist and we recorded over 200 decisions for Christ! For example, we took the team to 11 area schools and they presented assemblies featuring attention-grabbing feats of strength, a positive message on achieving your God-given dreams and they finished with an invitation to come to First Baptist and learn about the real source of their strength which is a relationship with Jesus Christ. Jamichael King attended the assembly at E. D. Nixon Elementary School and urged his Mother to bring him to FBC for the program. Eleven-year-old Jamichael heard the gospel and committed his life to Jesus Christ. With glistening eyes Jamichael’s Mother thanked me for the witness of FBC and Team Impact! Let’s consistently cast our nets of love, serving and witness into the streams of people around us and seek to catch people who desperately need to move from death into eternal life through Jesus Christ.
