As the winter months continue, the possibility of school
closures due to inclement weather exists.
To inform parents/guardians and staff members of school
closures, the Bartlesville Public School District utilizes the
SchoolMessenger notification
system. The notification system
allows the district to promptly
deliver school closing information. SchoolMessenger has the
ability to notify via email, phone
call and text. In the event of
a school closure due to winter
weather, all three SchoolMessenger communication forms
will be utilized.

CMT audition workshop to be held tomorrow
Special to The Bruin
A magical, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” adventure is soon arriving when local students ages 7-17
will audition for the chance to appear in the classic P.L.
Travers “Mary Poppins.” The production will appear
on the Bartlesville Community Center main stage July
16-19, 2015.
In anticipation of the auditions Children’s Musical
Theatre is holding an audition workshop to give local
students an opportunity to develop their auditioning
skills, whether this is their first audition or they’ve done
this before. Students ages 7-17 by September 1, 2015
and residing within a 50-mile radius of Bartlesville are
eligible.
The audition workshop will be held tomorrow,
Saturday, January 31 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the
Bartlesville Community Center Studio Theatre. This
workshop will be helpful for all who wish to audition,
but especially those doing it for the first time. Tips on
what to expect from the audition process, learn more
about being a part of a production, trying to improve
their selection possibilities, plus a chance to learn music
and choreography from Mary Poppins will be included.
The Beginning Workshop fee of $5 may be paid at the
door on the day of the workshop. No advance registration is needed.
Auditions for “Mary Poppins” will be March 4-8
at Madison Middle School. Appointments for auditions
may be made starting February 3 online at www.cmtonstage.com or calling 918-336-0558.
The artistic staff for this production includes
Director Cranston Dodds, Assistant Director Caitlyn
Caughell, Music Director Roberta Eberhard, Choreographer Lesley Jennings, and Orchestra Conductor Travis
Dunlap. This professional team will train and direct a
cast of 60-80 talented students from the surrounding
area for 5 intensive weeks of rehearsals and performances in June and July.
There will be high-flying adventure and magic
as classic character Mary Poppins, and Bert, the jackof-all trades, introduce us to England in 1910 and the
troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have
sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives
on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and
common sense, she must teach the family how to value
each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on
many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and
Michael aren't the only ones she has a profound effect
upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from
the nanny who advises that "Anything can happen if
you let it."

Broadway is being
organized by senior students Katie Gerth, Catherine
Hine, Kasia Jarmola and Julie Welch. Organization
of the event fulfills the “Better Me, Better You, Better World” project requirement of Mrs. Susan Staats’
AP Psychology class. The committee hopes to raise
$2,000 to offset the cost of renting costumes for the
BHS musical in May.
Bruins on Broadway organizational committee member Catherine Hine said, “We really want to
give the audience an idea of the different aspects of a
musical. Acting, singing, instrumental music, behind
the scenes...there’s so much that goes into a musical
and showcasing that is our goal this year. Along with
raising money, of course!”
Presale tickets are $3 for students and $5 for
adults. Tickets at the door are $5 and $10 respectively.
BHS will present the spring musical on Friday,
May 1 and Saturday, May 2 at 7 p.m. and Sunday,
May 3 at 3 p.m. at the BHS FAC. Directed by drama
and acting teacher Susan Crabtree and Vocal Music
Supervisor Margie Green, the musical will feature
the vocal, acting, dancing, technical, stagecraft and
instrumental talents of many BPSD students.

Each year, parents have an opportunity to update contact information at the start of the school year, however if you do not currently receive the SchoolMessenger notifications or would like to update contact
information, you can contact the secretary at your
child’s school site. The secretary will be able to update or add any information necessary. All parents
are encouraged to have a phone number and email
address on file as the BPSD frequently uses both.
If you are a BPSD staff member and you do not
receive SchoolMessenger notifications or would like
to update contact information, please contact Julie
Woody at the Education Service Center.
In order to receive email or phone call communications through the SchoolMessenger system,
you must have a child enrolled in the school district
or be a current BPSD staff member. However, any
community member can sign up to receive text alerts to
a cell phone by texting “Subscribe” to 68453. Standard
text messaging rates will apply for this service.
It is the goal of the Bartlesville Public School
District to keep parents and community members as
informed as possible during any event. Parents are encouraged to share current contact information to ensure
the latest information from the BPSD is received.
