‘Kauthig 2015’ celebrated
with gusto in Navi Mumbai
By Dilip Sengupta
People born during
this week of any year
will experience that
there will be times in
your life when you have
no choice but to go out
into the world and forge
ahead. At this time,
however, you have a
choice. If you wish to go
out into the world, your
personal life will not
cause problems that
can distract you from
the quest. But it might
be even better to concentrate your energies
on your personal life,
rather than make a
great effort to get ahead
into the world. Now is
the time when you can
make your home, family and personal life
more secure than other and guarantee that
it will always be a
source of support and
comfort.
Almighty gives you
Money and Honey and
they are both sweet for
you around this time.
By this favourable
phrase - often overworked by me – I would
like to cover this entire
gamut of money matters and activate buying, selling, funds, in-
vestments, salary/
perks/bonus and so on
and all affairs that
touch the heart and
emotions. Here money
and Honey mesh and
overlap beutifully for
all those who are born
during this period.
Reaching out, touching
base and enjoying what
you do is how you start
the week. Communications is the name of the
game - it may range
from just emails to
hugs, kisses and more!
I’m not joking. Love,

KR Adopts Green Technology For Waste Management
Issue : 226
29 January, 2015
Commitment to hold the
time line: a bold move
Probably the most significant outcome
of President Barack Obama’s visit to India and the subsequent trade negotiations
between the two governments is the commitment by Prime Minister Narendra
Modi that in future, all government
projects will be completed on time. This
is a huge commitment given the fact that
most public projects have been seeing
time over runs, sometimes of decades.
Imagine a corporate has decided to set up
a power plant in a backward district and
the government has agreed to provide the
infrastructure like the roads and water
supply! The private companies draw up
their budgets on the basis of a time frame;
any time over run results in the escalation
of cost. And what happens to the company’s budget? And what happens to the
down stream industries planned, if any? Of
course, by sticking to the time frame, the
government will also save a lot of money
which it now spends as administrative expenses.
The best example of time over runs is
the set of three hospitals taken up by Navi
Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Each one
is more than two years behind the schedule! Imagine how much more they would
cost in terms of money! If this happens to
a project taken up by the cash rich NMMC,
what will be the fate of other local bodies?
Indian Railways probably hold the worst
example of time over runs. Some of its
projects are said to be pending for over
50 years! And in spite of that,
most railway ministers are known to go
on announcing new projects gleefully! For
example, Mamata Bannerjee had announced eight new railway lines, most of
them in West Bengal, during her tenure
as railway minister. She had done so
without making any provision for them in
the budget! Of course, a railway project
need not be completed in a financial year
and budgetary provision can be made in
the coming years too. But there must be
some idea from where the money will
come. Narendra Modi’s commitment has
the potential to change all that. Better still,
it has the potential to change the attitude
and the work ethics of the government
servants. Presently, they are known for
their lethargy. “Don’t do today what you
can keep for tomorrow” seems to be the
principle they are following. The Prime
Minister’s commitment has the potential
to change all that. The government servants will have to keep pace with those of
the private sector if they want to honour
the commitment. They may have to work
overtime like those in the private companies, if necessary, of course, without asking for over time! That is also a work ethic that will have to be changed.

are not able to envision
right now but will get
anyway. This highly
favourable time may
prove to be too tempting.
You try to work harder
than ever to earn more
and more. The Lord Almighty says that it is
not too good a time for
you healthwise and
there might be some other stresses to cope with.
It could be because moving of your house or due
to change of an office or
perhaps due to an overseas travel for a business which is much
against your desire.
Your temper could possible be on a short fuse.
the results, Konkan
Railway plans to install
the system at the major stations on its route
and its residential colonies along its route”
shared a Konkan Railway official.
Background: Konkan Railway’s residential colony at Seawoods
has 142 official quarters with about 500-600
residents occupying
these. It has lush green
lawns and several trees
in its premises. About
200 to 250 kg of garbage
and green waste is produced daily from the
colony which is picked
up once a day by the
garbage vehicle of the
Municipal Corporation.
The green waste is disposed off separately by
Konkan Railway as it
cannot be mixed with
the regular garbage.
Since about 150-200 kg
of green waste is produced per day the waste
composting machine
will enable KRCL to
produce its own organic manure for use in its
lawns and plants. This
will also completely do
away with the practice
of dumping garbage for
further disposal by civic system.

Shri Yogeshwar
Sharma, President,
Kauthik Foundation
said, “Organised by the
Kauthig Foundation,
this was the eighth
year of the festival
which brings different
aspects of Uttarakhand’s unique culture.
This year the theme
was ‘Palayan’ where we
highlighted the fact
that people who migrate from our state
must not forget the connect they have with
their homeland Uttarakhand. I am happy
that we were able to
rekindle that connect
and urged people to
keep
Devbhumi’s
unique traditions alive
and also visit Uttarakhand at least once a
year. ‘Janmabhoomi
Uttarakhand Karmabhoomi Maharashtra’
was the message we focused on throughout
the five days of the festival”
You are advised to cultivate patience, forbearance and self control you gain much that way.
Not only in better relationships, but more importantly, by becoming
a better person altogether. Your love life is more
physical-passion or sex
rather than tenderness
and togetherness. This
is the way I see it and
like to tell it straight
and upfront. But it is
not all passion and preoccupation with your
own personal self interests and needs.
Public trusts, charitable organisatons, philanthropic funding agencies along with joint finance, loans and funds
are the main areas for
you. This is not personal finances but those on
a
larger
scale.
Megabucks obviously
means lots of thoughts,
even study and market
research, since larger
sums of money will be
at risk. As I also said, it
will mean a lot of stress
at work. Decide whether it’s worth it. Try to
create scope for your better instincts and higher
self to develop thoughts
about death, Life after
death, necromancy (art
of raising dead spirits).
This is not as strange as
it may seem. More or
less it is the same a prescription for you. The
Lord
Almighty
says,certainly you will
be painting on a very
major canvas. You will
be doing things at the
speed of light. Your creations and work emotions will be greatly enhanced. This could be
because of special
spiritual insights.

Improve the codition
of subway at Airoli
There is a subway close to Airoli railway station connecting Thane-Belapur road (TB road)
and Airoli node. This subway is used by light
vehicles such as two wheelers, autos and cars.
This subway is very narrow. There is no proper
footpath in this subway on both the sides. There
are also

lights.

Many
pedestrians don’t use this subway. They prefer
to cross the railway tracks. The subway also gets
water logged during heavy rains creating traffic
jam in the node and TB road. If possible, the
authorities should widen this subway, provide
footpaths on both the sides, provide lights and
install pumps to remove excess water during
monsoon.

R K Laxman - a common
man with a vision
R. K. Laxman was not just a cartoonist but
also a good human being. His demise is a sad
moment. Through his cartoon character “common man”, he always had something important
to express, which always remained a guiding
force for good governance. Some of the cartoons
out of the 1960s and 1970s would be alive and
meaningful if reproduced today without a date like the one where a policemen is reporting to
his superiors saying, roughly, that there had been
looting, rioting, stone-throwing and “then the situation took
a turn for
the worse”
and there
was — looting, rioting,
s t o n e throwing.
So too, the
innumerable cartoons
on price rise
that he did
in the early
decades — they would be as alive today as they
were then.
Laxman suffered a stroke in 2003 but that
did not put him out of action. He continued working with one hand, although the lines were not
as sharp, and the Times sent someone home to
pick up the cartoons. He had moved to Pune since
a while with his wife. People invariably connected themselves with the Common Man, and Laxman’s work represented the bewilderment of the
poor, contrasting it with the corruption of the
ruling classes. His work will always bring a smile
or draw a laugh and make you realise the grim
irony and unchanging nature of the world we
live in. His loss is irreparable.
