COMMENTS ON THE DAY
CONFESSION AND FORGIVENESS
All may make the sign of the cross, the sign marked at baptism, as the presiding minister
begins.
P:
Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, who spoke light into creation,
who calls us to listen and follow, who sends us to shine like stars.
C:
Amen.
P:
Let us come before God, confessing our sin.
Silence is kept for reflection.
P:
Holy and merciful God,
C:
we confess that we have sinned against our sisters and brothers
and against you. We cherish the values of this world. We cause others
to
stumble. The earth is wounded by our excess. Have mercy, O God.
Forgive us, renew us, and raise us up on eagles' wings, that we may
do your will with courage and delight.
C:
Amen.
P:
C:
Hear the voice from heaven: "You are my own, my beloved."
God gives power to the weary and strengthens the powerless.
Be cleansed, be healed, for in the name of + Jesus Christ,
I declare to you the forgiveness of your sins and the revealing of God's reign.
Amen.

ANTHEM
"There is a Balm in Gilead"
(Saint Mark Choir; Lisa Wang, soloist)
TEXT: There is a balm in Gilead to make the wounded whole;
Spiritual
there is a balm in Gilead to heal the sin sick soul. Sometimes I feel
discouraged and think my work's in vain, but then the Holy Spirit
revives my soul again. If you cannot preach like Peter, if you cannot
pray like Paul, you can tell the love of Jesus and say, "He died for all."
Don't ever be discouraged, for Jesus is your friend; and if you lack for
knowledge, he'll ne'er refuse to lend.

RECEPTION INTO MEMBERSHIP
A:
These persons have come to us and desire to make public affirmation of
their Baptism:
Dee Passmore, Mike & Judy Miller, DeeDee Walters, Nate & Rachel
Martin, Grace & Sawyer
P
Dear friends, we rejoice to receive you, members of the one holy catholic
and apostolic Church, into our fellowship in the Gospel.
Brothers and sisters in Christ: In Holy Baptism our Lord Jesus Christ
received you and made you members of his Church. In the community of
God's people, you have learned from his Word God's loving purpose for
you and all creation. You have been nourished at his holy table and called
to be witnesses to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Now, therefore, I ask you to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin,
and confess the faith of the Church, the faith in which we baptize.
R
Do you renounce all the forces of evil, the devil, and all his empty
promises?
I do.
P
C
Do you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
P
C
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
P
C
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen
THE PRAYERS
P:
Called to know, love, and follow you, O God, we pray for the church, the
world, and all in need.
A brief silence.
A:
Lord, in your mercy,
C:
hear our prayer.
P:
C:
Trusting your love and healing, O God, we commend to you all for whom

COMMITMENT
P
You have made public profession of your faith. Do you intend to continue
in the covenant God made with you in Holy Baptism:
to live among God's faithful people,
to hear his Word and share in his supper,
to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word
and deed,
to serve all people, following the example of our Lord Jesus,
and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth?
R
I do, and I ask God to help and guide me.
P
People of God, do you promise to support and pray for one another in
your life in Christ?
We do, and we ask God to help and guide us.
C
PRAYER OF BLESSING
P
Let us pray.
Gracious Lord, through water and the Spirit you have made these men
and women your own. You forgave them all their sins and brought them
to newness of life. Continue to strengthen them with the Holy Spirit, and
daily increase in them your gifts of grace: the spirit of wisdom and
understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge
and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence; through Jesus
Christ, your Son, our Lord.
C
Amen
PEACE
P:
The peace of the Lord be with you always.
C:
And also with you.
The ministers and congregation may greet one another in the name of the Lord.
Peace be with you

C:
“Precious Lord, Take My Hand”
Callahan
ELW – No. 773
Let us pray,
Merciful God,
as grains of wheat scattered upon the hills were gathered together to
become one bread, so let your church be gathered together from the
ends of the earth into your kingdom, for yours is the glory through
Jesus Christ, now and forever.
Amen.
GREAT THANKSGIVING
P:
The Lord be with you.
C:
And also with you.
P:
Lift up your hearts.
C:
We lift them to the Lord.
P:
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
C:
It is right to give our thanks and praise.
P:
It is indeed right to give you our thanks and praise, O God,
for you strengthen the powerless
and renew those who wait for you in trust.
You are the Creator of the earth
who stretched out the sky like a curtain
and sent down rain, clothing the mountains in green.
You gathered your people from exile,
healing the broken hearted and binding their wounds.
You came among us, as one of us,
in your child Jesus the Christ,
sharing our weakness in order to save us.
Healing the sick and casting out demonic powers,
he proclaimed your mercy and peace.
Turning his back on the acclaim of the crowds,
he faithfully followed your call
all the way to death on a cross.
You raised him up
and promised that all who trust in him
will rise up with wings like eagles
and run the race without ever growing weary.
And so, with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the
hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn:
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
P:
Holy, mighty, and merciful Lord,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
In great love you sent to us Jesus, your Son,
who reached out to heal the sick and suffering,
who preached good news to the poor,
and who, on the cross, opened his arms to all.
In the night in which he was betrayed,
our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks;
broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying:
Take and eat; this is my body, given for you.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Again, after supper, he took the cup, gave thanks,
and gave it for all to drink, saying:
This cup is the new covenant in my blood,
shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin.
Do this for the remembrance of me.
Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrection, and ascension,
we await his coming in glory.
Pour out upon us the Spirit of your love, O Lord,
and unite the wills of all who share this heavenly food,
the body and blood of Jesus Christ, our Lord;
to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit,
be all honor and glory, now and forever.
Amen.
LORD'S PRAYER
C
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us from the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours,
now and forever. Amen

RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION AT SAINT MARK
Christ welcomes all to receive him in bread and cup. Following distribution to
the assistants, the Sacrament will be brought to any who are unable to come forward. If
you are unable, simply notify an usher or raise your hand so that those distributing
Communion may serve you. The Sacrament is received at the chancel rail, either
kneeling or standing.
The Sacrament is distributed by means of wafer placed in our open hands. We
may eat the bread and drink from a gold chalice, or we may dip the bread into a silver
chalice and so consume the body and blood of Christ. For those with allergic conditions,
consecrated rice wafers are available. All are welcome.
COMMUNION
As the ministers give the bread and wine, they say these words to each communicant:

Hopkins was one of the most vibrant visionary poets of the Victorian era. His
work embraces the sublime and the despairing; he explores both deep fear and
extreme ecstasy. Challenging because of its technical complexity and rich
imagery, Hopkins' poems repay close reading by offering a deeper vision of the
world and the ways of seeing God. We will explore a different group of poems
each week; each forum will be independent of the others, so come to any or all-we'll read and explore this most rewarding poet together.
