One of the most difficult duties of a disciple is to follow the command of Jesus to spread the gospel to all the nations. think one reason may be that 11:00 we don’t feel we have the authority to tell someone else what to believe. Most of us don’t think we know the gospel well enough to preach it. The 12:30 gospel this Sunday mentions twice that Jesus taught with more authority than any of religious 2:30 leaders of Israel. So how can we get such authority? First, Jesus didn’t threaten people with thunderbolts and lightning. He certainly didn’t impress Readings for the Week people by saying what they wanted to hear. He February 1st through February 8, 2015 spoke the truth that he heard from his Father. His Sunday/ Domingo Dt– Deuteronomio 18:15-20 two main actions in his ministry were curing and Ps-Salmo 95: 1,2,6,7,7-9 forgiving people. Since the Jews thought sickness was a punishment for sins, by curing the sick and 1Cor-1Corintios 7:32-35 Mk-Marcos 1:21-28 Monday/ Lunes: Mal-Malaquias 3:1-4 Ps-Salmo 24: forgiving sins, Jesus showed that he got authority from his Father. How do we get that authority?” 7,8,9,10 Heb– Hebreos 2:14-18 We get it from the Holy Spirit, in Baptism and Lk-Lucas 2:22-40 Confirmation. And like an athlete who has to work Tuesday/ Martes: Heb-Hebreos12:1-4, Ps-out and practice to be any good, we still need to Salmo22:26B-27,28,30,31-32 Mk-Marcos 5:21-43 grow in that authority. One way is to read the Wednesday/ Miércoles Heb– Hebreos 12:4-7,11-15 scriptures and pray with them, so that we get to Ps-Ssalmo 103: 1-2,13-14,17-18A know God through his Word and begin to listen to Mk-Marcos 6:1-6 him in our prayers. We can consciously decide to see God in other people, not just those we love, Thursday-Jueves Heb-Hebreos 12:18-19,21-24 Ps-Salmo 48:2-3AB, 3CD,4,9-10,11 MK-Marcos 6:7-13 but everyone, even the ones who annoy us. And of course, the Eucharist and other sacraments Friday/ Viernes: Heb-Hebreos13:1-8 Ps-Salmo 27: strengthen God’s life in us. You’ll know you have 1,3,5, 8B-9ABC, Mk-Marcos 6: 14-29 that authority when you can talk about your faith Saturday/ Sábado Heb-Hebreos 13:15-17,20,21 Ps- with confidence instead of hesitation, because Salmo 23:1-3A,3B4,5,6 Mk-Marcos 6:30-34 you will be speaking from experience, not second Sunday/ Domingo Jb-Job 7:1-4 hand knowledge. 9:00 Ps-Salmo 147:1-2,3-4,5-6 1Cor-1Corintios 9:16-19,22-23 Mk– Marcos 1: 29-39 Tom Schmidt, Copyright © J. From the Parish/ de la Parroquia & Around our Community Angels Explained: What You Should Know About the Nine Choirs Dr. Mark Miravalle - Professor of Theology and Mariology at Franciscan University of Steubenville - teaches on the fascinating subject of Angels. Why did God create angels? How are they different from humans? Are guardian angels found in Scripture? Discover the answer to these questions and many more as Dr. Mark Miravalle explains the nine choirs of angels, their differing roles and hierarchical order, and how much angels can help us if we only ask. Parishioner Comments I liked the very concise & detailed explanation of how the angel studies were done by the Church, the history of the angels, all the different types of angels & their duties (good & bad), the hierarchies, tying info to scripture & tradition, the importance of talking/praying to our guardian angel daily, invoking the angels, going to Adoration, etc. Everyone likes angels, but I didn't realize there was so much info, & how to join the good side to fight the fallen angels! Focus this spring in Little Rock will be on renewed efforts to build up Christ's army of prayer warriors to keep vigil, not just for 40 days at a time, but throughout the year. The first campaign here in 2008 resulted in a small group of people who asked “Why stop now?” Many babies' lives have been saved through the prayers offered on the sidewalk at the abortion clinic, but more people and prayers are needed.
