Dear brothers and sisters,

The readings of this Sunday
invite us to a celebration. Generally,
when one is invited to a banquet it is
an occasion of joy because we
always seek to live and be with others; however,
sometimes we do not come out and state we are
unable to attend, saying instead, “I will do everything
possible…” which often means we cannot come due
to other obligations.
Since the first invited guests in the parable
had more pressing activities to attend than the
banquet, messengers were sent in search of new
diners, both good and bad. It is uncommon for guests
to refuse to attend a feast prepared for them; much
less plausible that high-society guests are replaced by
the poor, crippled, and those without fortune. Such
dissonance between the narrative scheme and
everyday reality reveal the narrative intention of
amazing the listeners and produce a certain stupor.
When the King arrives to greet his guests he notices
that one of the attendees was not dressed for the
party; he turns to him and calls him friend, an
expression that indicates confidence and
recrimination in the Gospel. It is clear that this is an
addition by Matthew intended to guard against certain
abuses committed against members of the
community. God’s judgment no longer applies to the
Jewish people, but to the members of the Church.
Today’s images of the banquet inspire us to
be grateful for all that we have and all that we need to
share with others and, above all, for the gift of faith
and Church. Let us pray that every Sunday we listen
well to the invitation of Jesus to come to the
Eucharistic banquet in a manner worth of Him.

Dinner Program Update
This weekend, October 11tha and 12th, is the last
weekend for the Hunger Fund drive! Speakers will be
addressing the parish at each mass and our volunteers
will be there to answer questions and to assist those
wishing to donate and to sign up for the Hunger Fund.
We are trying to meet our goal of 300 Hunger Fund
memberships. If you've been thinking of donating or
joining the Hunger Fund, this weekend would be a great
chance! We thank you for your support.

Baptisms and Preparation
The Sacrament is celebrated during Mass once a month
for infants and children up to 7 years of age.
1. Call the priest at 202-234-8000, to set
up the interview.
2. Choose Catholic Godparents who have
been baptized and received first
communion and confirmation.
3. Bring your child’s birth certificate to the interview.
4. Parents and godparents must attend the baptismal
preparation class. Parishioners who have been chosen
to be Godparents at other churches, needs to interview
with the priest prior to attending the class.
5. Do not bring children to the preparation class—
please make arrangements for childcare.
6. Next Baptismal Class will be on:

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
Las lecturas de este domingo
nos invitan a una fiesta.
Generalmente cuando uno es invitado
a compartir con otros siempre es una alegría el
convivir, pero si uno no puede participar uno dice:
"hare todo lo posible..." que quiere decir que uno no
va a estar pues tiene otras obligaciones.
En el Evangelio de San Mateo, podemos ver
como los primeros invitados consideran más urgentes
otras actividades que la participación en el banquete,
los mensajeros son enviados en busca de nuevos
comensales, tanto buenos como malos. No es
frecuente que todos los invitados se nieguen a asistir
a una fiesta preparada para ellos. Menos verosímil
es que los invitados de alta sociedad sean sustituidos
por los pobres, los tullidos y los desheredados de la
fortuna. Estas disonancias entre la trama narrativa y
la realidad cotidiana revelan la intención narrativa de
extrañar al oyente y de producir cierto estupor.
Cuando el rey se presenta a saludar a sus invitados,
encuentra que uno de los asistentes no tiene el traje
de fiesta y se dirige a él llamándolo amigo, una
expresión que en el Evangelio indica confianza y
recriminación. Es evidente que se trata de un
añadido de Mateo destinado a poner en guardia
contra ciertos abusos que se cometían en su
comunidad. El juicio de Dios ya no se aplica al
pueblo judío, sino a los miembros de la Iglesia.
Las imágenes del banquete hoy nos inspiran
a dar gracias por lo que tenemos y compartimos,
pero sobre todo, por el don de la fe y de la Iglesia.
Oremos para que domingo a domingo escuchemos la
invitación que Jesús nos hace de acercarnos
dignamente a su banquete eucarístico. Bendiciones
para todos.

Rito de Iniciación Cristiana (RICA)
¡El programa del Rito de Iniciación Cristiana ha
comenzado!
En nuestra parroquia, la formación
en la Fe de todos sus familiares es
de gran importancia, es por ello
que les ofrecemos el programa de
RICA dirigido para todos los
adultos que deseen ser bautizados
en la Iglesia católica o que aun no
han recibido el sacramento de la
comunión o confirmación.
Este programa, también es para niños mayores de 8
años y jóvenes hasta los 18 años de edad que
necesiten recibir los sacramentos del bautismo,
comunión y confirmación. Las clases son de acuerdo
a su necesidad y los agrupamos según la edad.

son todos los domingos en la Academia del Sagrado
