February Newsletter -2015
Greetings Parents and Guardians,
As the new semester begins, we would like to recognize the essential role that family
and community partnerships play in children’s learning. By learning together, working
together, and making the well-being of children top priority, Arcadia Elementary will be better
able to help our students attain academic success. The following are a few suggestions to help
your child:
 Regular school attendance is important to student achievement. If there is anything the
school can do to help facilitate regular attendance, or if you have any questions, please
feel free to contact our guidance counselor or myself.
 Get Plenty of Sleep. Scientists have found that students who do not get enough sleep
have difficulty paying attention in class and do not do as well in school. The
recommended amount of sleep ranges from 8.5 to 11 hours of sleep each night.
 Eat healthy. Eat more fruits, nuts and vegetables. Drink plenty of water. Limit the
amount of snack foods and soda.
 READ! READ! READ! Success in school depends, in large part, on a student’s ability to
read and comprehend what he or she has read. Read to get information, read for
enjoyment, read to someone in your family, and attend Reading Nights.
 Do your best at school every day! Complete all assignments at school and at home, and
ask questions when you do not understand something.
 Taking Action. Wisconsin is battling a fairly serious outbreak of the flu this season. At
school, we focus on teaching children to wash their hands frequently and to
appropriately cover their mouths/noses when coughing and sneezing.
PBIS: Last month we had a K-4 assembly to reinforce the expectations at Arcadia Elementary
School: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. This was a culminating activity (piñata
party) that celebrated the completion of behavior expectations and steps to becoming a
“Leader of the Pack.” There were many students who were nominated by their teachers and
recognized at the assembly for exhibiting these expectations on a daily basis. Each of these
students received a certificate. Their picture can be seen on the bulletin board in the front
lobby.
Some students were awarded with prizes at the assembly. The prizes included: pizza
parties, popcorn parties, and extra recess. The prizes were possible because of the funds
accumulated from collection of Box Tops, milk caps, and Campbell’s Soup labels. Please
continue to collect these items and have your child bring them to school. Our collection bins
are in the front lobby of the elementary school.
Finally, please check out our “Pawsitive” work display case in the front lobby. Students,
who have shown “Paw Pride” by doing exemplary work, have been recognized with their
masterpiece for others to admire.
Reminder of Inclement weather:
It would be very helpful to our staff if you could teach or help remind your child of the
importance of zipping up his or her jacket during cold weather. Also, we would like to
reemphasize that if there is a possibility of a school delay or closing, you should refer to a local
television station or radio stations. A complete list of news stations was printed in the
December district newsletter. In a two-hour delay situation, the doors will begin opening at
9:45 a.m. You should also be getting a reminder via telephone from our system. If you haven’t
been receiving a call, please update your current phone number by calling the elementary
office.
To be safe, responsible, and respectful on the playground your child needs to be
properly dressed for the winter weather. This means your child should come to school with the
following items every day:
1. Winter Coat
2. Snowpants
3. Boots
4. Hat
5. Mittens
6. Shoes in their back packs!
If your child does not have the proper gear listed, then they will NOT be allowed in the snow.
They will be in a section of the black top away from the snow. Please help your child locate all
of these items and have them bring them to school until another note comes home saying the
playground is dry!
STAR :
The students in grades 3-4 have completed their STAR assessment in reading and math.
As stated in last month’s newsletter, this computerized assessment provides our teachers with
information that they can use to improve teaching and learning in reading and math. However,
it is very important to remember that the STAR assessment is just one way your child is
assessed during the school year. Teachers use a variety of assessments to show your child’s
growth and development. STAR results and academic growth will be discussed at your child’s
parent/teacher conference at the end of this month.

Saludos padres y tutores,
Al comenzar el nuevo semestre, nos gustaría reconocer que la relación entre familias y la
comunidad juegan un papel importante en el aprendizaje de los niños. Aprendiendo y
trabajando juntos y haciendo el bienestar de los niños nuestra prioridad, Arcadia Elementary
estará en mejores condiciones para ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a alcanzar el éxito
académico. Las siguientes son algunas sugerencias para ayudarle a su hijo/a:
 Asistencia regular a la escuela es importante para un mejor rendimiento académico. Si
hay algo que la escuela puede hacer para ayudar a facilitar la asistencia regular, ó si
tiene alguna pregunta, por favor no dude en contactarse con nuestro consejero ó
conmigo.
 Duerma lo Suficiente. Los científicos han encontrado que los estudiantes que no
duermen lo suficiente tienen dificultad para prestar atención en clase y no van bien en
la escuela. La cantidad recomendada de sueño varía desde 8.5 hasta 11 horas de sueño
cada noche.
 Coma sano. Coma más frutas, nueces y vegetales. Beba mucha agua. Limite la cantidad
de bocadillos y refrescos.
 LEER! LEER! LEER! El éxito escolar depende, en gran medida, de la habilidad del
estudiante para leer y comprender lo que él o ella ha leído. Leer para obtener
información, leer por placer, y leer a alguien de su familia, y asistir a las Noches de
Lectura.
 Hacer su mejor esfuerzo en la escuela todos los días! Completar todas las tareas en la
escuela, en casa, y hacer preguntas cuando no entiendan algo.
 Tomar acción. Wisconsin está luchando contra un brote muy grave de gripe esta
temporada. En la escuela, nos enfocamos en enseñar a los niños a lavarse las manos
frecuentemente y cubrir adecuadamente la boca / nariz al toser y estornudar.
PBIS: El mes pasado los grados K-4 tuvieron una asamblea para reforzar las expectativas en la
Escuela Primaria de Arcadia: Ser Respetuoso, Ser Responsable, Ser Seguro. Esta fue una
actividad (fiesta de piñatas) que celebró la finalización de las expectativas de comportamiento y
los pasos para convertirse en un "Líder del Grupo.” Hubo varios estudiantes, quienes fueron
nominados por sus maestros, y reconocidos en la asamblea por seguir las expectativas
diariamente. Cada uno de estos estudiantes recibió un certificado. Su foto se puede ver en el
tablero de anuncios en el vestíbulo.
Algunos estudiantes se les otorgaron premios en la asamblea. Los premios incluyeron:
fiestas de pizza, fiestas de palomitas de maíz y recreo extra. Los premios fueron posibles gracias
a los fondos acumulados de la colección de Box Tops, tapones de la leche, y las etiquetas de
sopa Campbell. Por favor, continúe juntando las etiquetas y tapones y mándelos con su hijo/a a
la escuela. Los recipientes se encuentran al entrar a la escuela primaria.
Finalmente, por favor eche un vistazo a nuestra exposición de "Pawsitive" en la vitrina
en la entrada principal. Los estudiantes que han mostrado "Paw Pride" con su trabajo ejemplar,
han sido reconocidos exhibiéndoles sus obras/trabajos para que otros lo admiren.
Recordatorio sobre el clima
Sería muy útil para nuestro personal si pudiera enseñarle o recordarle a su hijo/a sobre la
importancia de abrocharse el abrigo durante el frío. Además, nos gustaría enfatizar que si existe
la posibilidad de un retraso escolar o cierre, usted debe referirse a las estaciones locales de
radio o televisión. Una lista completa de las estaciones de noticias fue publicada en el boletín
del distrito en diciembre. En caso de un retraso de dos horas, las puertas se abrirán a las 9:45
am. También debería estar recibiendo un recordatorio vía telefónica desde nuestro sistema. Si
usted no ha estado recibiendo una llamada, por favor, actualice su número de teléfono
llamando a la oficina de la escuela primaria.
Para estar seguro, responsable y respetuoso en el patio del recreo su hijo(a) necesita estar
vestido adecuadamente para el clima invernal. Esto significa que su hijo(a) venga a la escuela
con los siguientes artículos todos los días:
1. Abrigo de Invierno
2. Pantalón de Nieve
3. Botas
4. Gorro
5. Guantes
6. Zapatos en sus mochilas
Si su hijo(a) no tiene el vestuario adecuado, no se le permitirá jugar en la nieve. Ellos se
mantendrán en el pavimento negro lejos de la nieve. Por favor, ayude a su hijo(a) a localizar
todos estos artículos y que los traigan a la escuela hasta que otra nota llege a casa diciendo que
el patio está seco!
STAR:
Los estudiantes en grados 3-4 han terminado su evaluación de STAR en Lectura y
Matemáticas. Como se indica en el boletín del mes pasado, esta evaluación computarizada
ofrece a nuestros maestros información que pueden utilizar para mejorar la enseñanza y el
aprendizaje en Lectura y Matemáticas. Sin embargo, es muy importante recordar que la
evaluación de STAR es sólo una manera de evaluar a su hijo(a) durante el año escolar. Los
maestros utilizan una variedad de evaluaciones para ver el crecimiento y desarrollo de su
niño/a. Los resultados de la evaluación de STAR serán discutidos en las conferencias de padres
/ maestro de su hijo/a a finales de este mes.
