BSE Mission Statement created by our Pre-K and K - 5 teachers during preschool week, 2015
We, at BSE, will achieve academic and personal excellence through collaboration, shared leadership, and respect.
“Kindness changes the brain by the experience of kindness. Children and adolescents do not learn kindness by only thinking
about it and talking about it. Kindness is best learned by feeling it so that they can reproduce it.”
The kindness of the adults I witnessed at our school last week was heartwarming. I saw relationship building in every classroom
that I visited from Pre-K to 5th grade, in Art, Music and PE. Teachers and staff greeted with handshakes, high fives, fist pumps and
smiles. One of the immediate results was that we averaged 99% of our students present in classes last week. This is truly remarkable. I have never had this high of attendance the first week of school. Our children want to be here and this is a tribute to our teachers and staff and to you, our parents knowing how important it is that your children come to school each day.
On the news each morning, I try to send out a message to our school community that will motivate everyone to have a positive day
and encourage our students to follow our PAWS rules. According to Lisa Currie, psychologist and consultant to Edutopia website,
there are many benefits to support teaching kindness in schools.
They are:
Happy, caring children
Greater sense of belonging and improved self-esteem
Increased peer acceptance
Improved health and less stress
Increased feelings of gratitude
Better concentration and improved results
We at Bonita Springs Elementary believe that every child has a gift and the potential to succeed in life. If they have teachers who
inspire them and believe in them, they will come to see in themselves that they are leaders, not just today, but for the rest of their
lives.
I am proud to tell you that we have kind, caring and inspiring adults who work with your children each day at BSE. Our mission is

“Bondad cambia el cerebro por la experiencia de la bondad. Los niños y los adolecentes no aprenden acerca de la bondad solo
por pensar en ella. La mejor manera de aprender sobre la bondad es sentirla para que pueda ser productiva”.
La bondad de los adultos que presencie la semana pasada fue conmovedora. Observe como una relación se va construyendo en cada
salón que visite desde Pre-K hasta 5 grado, en Arte, Música y Educación Física. Maestros y personal fueron recibidos con un
apretón de manos, palmadas y sonrisas. Uno de los resultados inmediatos fue la asistencia del 99% de los estudiantes la semana
pasada. Esto es verdaderamente notable. Nunca había tenido asistencia tan alta la primera semana de escuela. Nuestro niños
quieren estar aquí y esto es gracias a nuestros maestros, personal y a ustedes, nuestros padres que saben lo importante que sus hijos
vengan a la escuela todos los días.
En las noticias de cada mañana, trato de enviar un mensaje a nuestra comunidad escolar que motive a todos a tener un día positivo y
animar a nuestros estudiantes a seguir las reglas de PAWS. Según Lisa Currie, Psicóloga y consultora de la pagina Edutopia, hay

Hello Parents and Students,
My name is Carol DeRobbio. I’m the
technology instructor for the computer
lab. I’m also the teacher for the gifted
students here at Bonita Springs Elementary. This year in
the computer lab we will be learning new programs that
will create movies that we can share on our Bobcat News.
Each child, in 2nd through 5th grade, will create short
movies about his/her favorite books they are reading for
the AR program. I have been at Bonita Springs Elementary
for 23 years and I may have taught you along ,with your
children over the years. I’m looking forward to an exciting
year at our beautiful school.
I am an Exceptional Student Education teacher. My students all have Individual Education Plans (also known as
an IEP). An IEP details specific learning goals and learning accommodations for your child. I work directly with
your child in the classroom. In addition, I consult with
your child’s classroom teacher to provide ideas, accommodations, and modifications to support your child’s unique
learning and behavioral needs.

Dear Parents/Guardians:
This is my eleventh year in education. I am originally from
Hicksville, a small village in Northwest Ohio. I earned my
Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education at Ferris State University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Outside of school I am a
working artist. I have recently created logos for the FGCU
Environmental Education Department and was named Best
of Show at the Center for the Arts of Bonita Springs.
The Art Program will soon be in full swing here at Bonita
Springs Elementary and artwork will be visible throughout
the school grounds. This year the focus of the art education
curriculum will be on community and culture, while incorporating mathematics, reading, and writing into every lesson. Many contests and galleries will be available for student participation. And let us not forget about the Art
Walk! This year I am also holding the Art Club once a
week for grades three, four and five!
The Visual and Performing Arts are a vital part of your
child’s education. In recent studies by the College Board,
profiles of SAT and achievement test takers, those who
studied the arts more than four years scored 59 points
higher on verbal and 44 points higher on the math portions
than students with no coursework or experience in the arts.
Other studies, like the one done by The Humanities Program Evaluation, has found that arts education programs
are related to keeping students interested and staying in
school. The arts will only strengthen and support your
child throughout their educational careers. So involve your
student in exploring the arts and discover a whole new
world of creative possibilities!
Lori Ramsey
Academic Coach
My name is Lori Ramsey. I am so excited to start my third
year at Bonita Springs Elementary School. I have been a
teacher for 27 years, teaching in both Ohio and Florida. I
have taught first grade, second grade, and third grade. I
have also taught and coordinated a Title I program helping
students with reading and math. This year I am an academic coach, working with first and third grades. I will be
in the classrooms co-teaching with the teachers and providing students with support specific to their needs based their
data and performance in the class. I look forward to another school year here at sunny Bonita Springs Elementary
School.
Melissa Robinson
Curriculum/Technology Specialist
My name is Melissa Robinson. I have taught for 24 years
at the following grade levels: KG, 1st, 3rd, and 6th grades.
I have spent the last 10 years as a Technology Specialist.
My role at BSE is to help students to become 21st century
learners; providing them with the skills to help them perform in the technological world that we live in today. In
addition, I collaborate with teachers to infuse technology
into their classroom. I look forward to working with teachers and students to incorporate Google Apps and FSA
strategies into instruction.

programa AR. Yo he sido maestra por 23 anos aquí en la
escuela de Bonita Springs, a lo mejor fui su maestra y ahora
lo soy de su hijo. Espero tener un año emociónate es
nuestra escuela.
Yo soy una maestra del Programa de Educación Especial
para los Estudiantes. Cada uno de mis estudiantes tiene un
plan académico de educación (conocido como IEP, por sus
siglas en ingles) este plan tiene metas especificas y
adaptaciones para el estudiante. Yo trabajo directamente

Este es mi onceavo año en educación. Yo soy originario de
Hicksville es un lugar pequeño en el noroeste de Ohio. Yo

Las artes visuales y escénicas son una parte vital en la
educación de su hijo. En estudios reciente realizados por
miembros de colegio, perfil SAT, aquellos estudiantes que
estudian las artes por mas de cuatro anos tuvieron una
puntación de 59 puntos y 44 puntos mas en la parte de
matemáticas, que aquellos estudiantes que no tienen
experiencias en las artes. Otros estudios, como el que hizo
el Programa de Evaluación de Humanidades, ha
encontrado que , los programas de arte hacen que los
estudiantes permanezcan en las escuelas. Las artes solo
fortalecen y apoyan a sus hijos durante sus carreras
educativas. Así que involucre a su hijo para que explore y
descubra un nuevo mundo de actividades creativas!

Mi nombre es Lori Ramsey. Estoy muy contenta de
empezar mi tercer año aquí en Bonita Springs Elementary .

Welcome to Physical Education at
Bonita Springs Elementary School. I
am excited about working with you
and your child during the upcoming
school year. My name is Zack
Schroeder and this is my 10th year as an educator. I have
been an athlete and a scholar my entire life. I have experiences in both coaching and playing team sports and look
forward to making connections with my students so they
can become healthy and successful adults.
I have been a music educator since 1989 and a professional
performer since 1983. As an educator, I have taught a variety of students, from college to early childhood. As a performer, I have worked with a variety of ensembles, from
symphony orchestras to jazz and Latin combos.
Music is literally a language. Even
though I make my class fun and
my classroom a playground, my
primary purpose is to develop the
potential that we have to learn a
language, specifically during early
childhood and elementary school
years. That takes commitment and
the understanding from students
and their families that music is a core subject that requires
undivided attention and hard work.
I am enthusiastic and grateful for the opportunity to continue working with the BSE community.

My name is Jessica Thompson. I am very excited to begin
a new journey at the charming Bonita Springs Elementary
School. This year I am a Teacher Leader, focusing on
working with 4th and 5th grade students and teachers. I
will be in the 4th and 5th grade classrooms teaching sideby-side with the instructors. I will provide students with
support specific to their needs based their data and performance in the class.
This will be my seventh year as a teacher. I graduated from
Rhode Island College in 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in
Elementary Education with a minor in ESE teacher.
I moved from Rhode Island and became a Florida resident
6 years ago. Fourth and Fifth grades are such exciting
years with so many new changes and responsibilities. I
look forward to watching the students learn and grow.
My goal is to meet the physical, social and emotional
needs of your child in caring and structured environment
so they can develop to their highest potential. The Physical Education curriculum that your child will experience
this year is bases on the national and state Physical Education standards and best practices in teaching education.

I began teaching first grade in Jacksonville, FL at a small inner-city school after receiving my an additional college degree; t
he first was in microbiology. I taught in Cape Coral one year. Then in 1987 I transferred to BSE and have been here since. I
have taught K-3 here and loved every minute of it. I have been a Reading and Math coach and now I have the best of both
worlds, being with new teachers and working with students. My favorite part of teaching is the things I learn from the students!

My name is Mrs. Nancy Omonte, or Mrs. O for short. It is my pleasure to be your School
Counselor! Allow me tell you a little bit about myself: I received my Bachelor or Arts in Psychology from the University of Connecticut, Masters of Science in School Psychology from
Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU), and my Sixth Year Professional Diploma of Advanced Studies in Counseling
from SCSU as well. I have a Florida Professional Certificate in School Counseling, grades K-12. I have worked with adolescents and children for 14 years mostly in Immokalee through the school system, but also through a local nonprofit. My focus has
always been on the importance of education as the path to success.
Originally from Connecticut, I moved to sunny Florida in 2001. In my free time I enjoy gardening and traveling with my family.
My husband is a high school teacher and we have 2 school aged children!
I am looking forward to assisting your students (s) with their personal, academic, and career goals! I am solution focused. I will
work with you and your children in finding positive solutions to their problems so they can focus on their education. I will be

How Parents Can Help Children Learn at Home
Fortunately, it’s not difficult because your children can guide the way. Your role is to get them talking, reflecting on their actiontions- - thinking.
•
Ask them questions about what they are learning.
•
Depending on your child’s age, you can be specific “What did you learn in history today”? Or abstract “is it better to be
brave or safe”
•
Encourage them to reflect on their day: Name a high (something good that happened) & low (something they may not have
liked). The key is to just listen. This will encourage a loving relationship so in the future, they will come to you if a need
arises. You can do this over dinner or make it a bedtime ritual.

Parent Involvement
Forty years of research supports that students whose families are involved in their learning earn better grades, enroll in higher-level
programs, have higher graduation rates, and are more likely to go to college. It is important for parents to be involved at their
child's school. Parents can get involved at BSE in a number of ways:
Attend parent workshops offered by the school and attend school events. We will sent a flyer home with dates and times of these

go over parents' rights.
Read your child's homework policy (located in student binder) and check for homework to be completed daily. In addition, talk to
your child about what they are learning in school.
Join the School Advisory Council (SAC) and/or Parent Association to be a part of making important
decisions at the school. Our first SAC meeting will be Tuesday, September 15th @ 5:00 in the cafeteria.
Make sure your child is in school everyday, on time, and stays for the full day. Show your child that school is important!

Envolvimiento de Padres
Cuarenta anos de investigación apoyan que las familias que están participan en el aprendizaje de sus hijos, obtienen las mejores
calificaciones, se inscriben a programas de nivel superior, se gradúan de escuela preparatoria, y tienen mas posibilidades de ir a la
universidad. Es importante que los padres participen en la escuela de sus hijos. Los padres de BSE pueden participar de diferentes
maneras:
Asistir a los talleres de padres que ofrece la escuela, así como a los eventos escolares. Mandaremos una nota a casa con las fechas
de estos eventos. Nuestro primer taller de padres será la junta del Titulo I, esta será el martes ___ de septiembre, esta junta
hablaremos sobre los derechos de los padres. .
Lea la póliza de tareas de su hijo (esta esta localizada adentro de la carpeta) y revise que la tarea sea hecha todos los días. Además
hable con su hijo para saber que aprendió en la escuela.
Sea parte del grupo SAC y del PTO para poder tomar decisiones importantes de la escuela. El grupo SAC tendrá una junta el
martes 15 de septiembre a las 5:00 en la cafetería.
Asegúrese de que su hijo este en clases todos los días, que llegue a tiempo y que permanezca todo el día. Demuéstrele que la
escuela es importante.
