Youth Forum Night This Monday “Can Christ help me even if I already ‘messed up’?” “What is my purpose for being here?” Open Discussion ~ Mon. Jan.12th 6:30-8 pm Parish Hall Info. call Sharon @281-451-9593 (Missing Peace) 2 Dear parish family, Feast of the Baptism of the Lord While Christmas celebrates the birth of the Savior into the human family, this Sunday’s feast reminds us of our “birth” into the family of God. With the season of Christmas ended, we commenced the First Sunday of Ordinary Time celebrating the feast of the Baptism of the Lord - the moment when the Lord began his public life and initiated his mission to redeem us proclaiming about the kingdom of God. We are reminded that our journey of faith commences at our own baptism when we ceased to be mere human beings and became the sons and daughters of God. With this feast of the baptism of the Lord, the church challenges us to reflect once again our dignity as baptized Christians, our responsibility that goes with our dignity, and our mission not only as partakers of the good news of the kingdom but also, as heralds of it to our world sharing the mission of the Lord in our particular vocation of life. Parents are most especially reminded today of the great obligation that goes with bringing their children to baptism. It is not just about naming a child nor it’s a private family affair but it is truly a church event when one becomes incorporated into the body of Christ, which is the Church. Parents have to be true to their promise to raise the child in the Catholic faith. Godparents do have a very important role, that is, he or she represents the church intention. Hence he or she must be in “good standing” with the church. Sad to say, there are those who do not understand this – their choices of godparents are solely based on “relations” (friendship or relatives) ignoring the fact the person whom they choose do not even go to church or had already drifted away from the church. We are reminded today that baptism is a reality of the inauguration of the kingdom of God in a life of an individual and of the community. Christianity is about life, and that means we need to live out our baptismal dignity and promises. But if we do not do what our baptism entitles us, then we surely would not reap the gifts of grace and in effect forfeits the life everlasting promised to us. If our parish community is working and going, it is because of men and women who actively live out their baptismal dignity and calling. We thank the Lord God for we have many of them, such as you, keeping our community of faith alive and well. The more we have those who live out their faith and participate fully in the parish life in whatever way they can, the more we reap together the blessings of growing in faith. Blessings to you and have a good week! Querida familia parroquial, Fr. PadreTony ST. MARY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH ~ LA PORTE FEAST OF THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD St. Mary’s Music Ministry Needs Your Voice!!
