Letter From The Pastor
Dear Parishioners:
I am sure you have seen a family sitting in a restaurant for dinner and one or more is
sitting at the table texting someone else. It could be another person at the same table.
Many youth answer with smiley faces and no text. There is a growing disconnectedness
among peoples.
This disconnectedness not only reduces our closest
relationships by inserting distance into families and
friends. It also disconnects us from ourselves. We were
not made just for our self. There is something much, much deeper, that if
not addressed leads us to disaster.
You and I learned that each human being is made in the image and
likeness of God. In our deepest inner self, we are like God — a
communion of persons — Three who is One or One who are Three. We
celebrate today Trinity Sunday, the liturgical celebration calling our minds
and hearts to worship God’s very nature in himself. In some way, our very
human nature mirrors God. We are not made for disconnectedness.
We can logically conclude that God exists. St. Thomas Aquinas, et al.,
demonstrated this. What we cannot do is deduce the Trinity from logic.
This knowledge can only come from revelation and
the Holy Spirit. Over and over Jesus alludes to the
Trinity — The Father and I are One (Jn. 10:30) –
Baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and
of the Holy Spirit (Mt. 28:19) - "The grace of the
Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with all of you,” (2
Cor. 13:14). You can find many more examples at
http://catholic-resources.org/Bible/Trinity.htm .
Being made in the image and likeness of God has
had profound effects on how we live. In our founding documents we state our belief that “All men are
created equal” because of our common creator. It
would be disastrous if we removed this core belief
about the human person. One need not be a prophet
to picture the harm were we to go back to a caste
system. We must never think we are better because
we have a certain color, accent, or religion. We are
all in the image and likeness of God.
As we celebrate this wonderful mystery of the nature of God, we can rejoice in the creativity of our Father
who created such variety in our world, in the Son who delivered us from sin and the Holy Spirit who guides
us to a more ordered life of morality.
May the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit enlighten your soul, heart and mind so you see yourself as
a son or daughter made in His image and that this truth will lead you to a deeper gratitude for who you are,
the sum of the Father’s love for you and the real capacity to be the living image of his Son to a darkened
world in desperate need of true Love.
Pax et bonum,
Msgr. Bill

HOW IS GOD, IN HIS INFINITE
LOVE, CALLING YOU?
What is true love? Lea Darrow, former runway model and reality show contestant starts her lively and humorous presentation by discussing the definition of
love with her youthful audience. Terms are important,
she insists. If we define love as hanging around abusive, exploitive, here-today-gone-tomorrow people,
then that’s the kind of love that will find us.
After a shattering prom night, Lea started looking for
the kind of love the culture offered. Her life stumbled,
then tumbled further and further down and away from
any solid ground or self-dignity. Her moral compass,
she wryly notes, was not pointing north. Christ spoke
to her before she hit rock bottom, and she returned to
the sacrament of reconciliation for only the second
time in her life. There, she offered back to God ten
years of pain. God loves us too much, she realizes, to
compromise on our happiness, to change His term for
love from something true to something cheap and transitory.
As members of St. Vincent de Paul's Young Adults
(SVDPYA), we strive to live out our Catholic faith in
both word and deed. We achieve this goal through our
service, spiritual formation, and social events in support
of one another, our community, and the Church as a
whole. Together, we take up the call of bringing Christ
into the world!
SVDPYA is centered around a 6:30 pm praise and
worship, 7pm Mass, and dinner every Tuesday evening
(except for the 1st Tuesday of the month), along with an
array of social and spiritual events. Come join us at one
of our upcoming events, or find our group on Facebook

Corpus Christi Procession
Following the 5:00 p.m. Vigil Mass, there will be a
Eucharistic procession through the neighborhood
followed by Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
Please join us in the Monsignor Jamail Family Life
Center for a pizza dinner following the procession.
Corpus Christi is Latin for “Body of Christ” and is the Sunday feast day celebrated every
year following Trinity Sunday. The feast began in the 13th century by Pope Urban IV in a
time when heresies challenged, and many of the faithful doubted, the real presence of
Christ in the Eucharist. This feast invites us to worship Christ in the Eucharist and to remember the gift of His Presence. The feast has been traditionally celebrated throughout
the world with a Eucharistic procession, in which the faithful walk with Christ through the
streets.

profundizando nuestro entendimiento mutuo, eliminando
