Light Our Way
Reflecting on God’s Word
What is All Saints Day (also called “Solemnity of All Saints”)?
It is when the Catholic Church commemorates every saint,
known and unknown.
While we have information about many saints, and we honor
them on specific days, there are many unknown or unsung
saints. On All Saints Day, we celebrate these holy men and
women and ask for their prayers and intercessions.
This day is connected to the doctrine of “The Communion of
Saints” - that all of God’s people, whether in heaven, on earth
or in Purgatory, are spiritually connected and united.
“The saints are the sinners who keep on trying.” – Robert Louis
Stevenson.
As we remember these wonderful people, let us also be
reminded of our own call to sanctity.
Tom stood staring at the letters R.I.P. on
his grandfather’s gravestone. “Rest in
peace, Grampa.” He wanted nothing more
for this beleaguered old man. Grampa had
seen so much hardship and was always
good to Tom. But would he rest in peace?
His love for the bottle was well known.
No one had ever seen him in church. Tom
just couldn’t shake his fears about the fate of his grandfather’s
immortal soul.
Today’s feast gathers up all our hopes and fears about the
eternal destiny of our loved ones. We may hope that their faith
and love will be rewarded. We may be relieved that their
suffering is over, or afraid they did not merit heaven. For all
these reasons we pray: “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the
souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest
in peace. Amen.”

Mark your calendars for the Pre-Gala Gathering Party
On Wednesday, November 5th and Thursday, November 6th we will be hosting a Pre-Gala Gathering Party.
We invite all Pius Families to join us on ONE of the above nights in the St. Pius Social Center from
6:30-8:30 pm. Whether you stop by for a few minutes or stay for an hour (or two!) your children will be
entertained with popcorn and a movie, which will allow you the opportunity to purchase your
Early Bird Gala Tickets, make a donation to a child's grade level auction item(s), and
find out why you won't want to miss the 2015 Gala.
You may even walk away with one of the Pre-Gala Raffle Prizes!
On Saturday, November 8th the gala committee invites you to a wine social at The Vino Cellar in downtown
Lombard. This is an opportunity to socialize with fellow Pius families, and support the 2015 Gala by purchasing
a bottle of wine for the very popular $20 Wine Pull.
Discounted 2015 Black and Gold Gala tickets will be available.

We Care/We Share
In the Gospel today, we hear the good news that when we keep
our focus on God and serve one another, God exalts us!
 To have ears to hear the “cries of the poor,”
 To have eyes to “seek and find the forgotten, the
suffering or the deprived,” and
 To have hearts that “bring God’s love to the poor”
through our generosity and donations.

food for 10 homeless families of 16 adults and 23 children.
To assist in the upcoming months, the St. Pius X Community

Election Prayer
Lord God, as the election approaches,
we seek to better understand the issues and concerns
that confront our city/state/county,
and how the Gospel compels us to respond as faithful citizens in our community.
We ask for eyes that are free from blindness
so that we might see each other as brothers and sisters,
one in equality and dignity, especially
those who are victims of abuse and violence, deceit and poverty.
We ask for ears that will hear the cries of children unborn
and those abandoned, men and women oppressed
because of race or creed, religion or gender.
We ask for minds and hearts that are open
to hearing the voice of leaders who will bring us closer to your Kingdom.
We pray for discernment, so that we may choose leaders
who hear your Word, live your love, and keep in the ways of your truth
as they follow in the steps of Jesus and His Apostles
and guide us to your Kingdom of justice and peace.
We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ and
through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

continuamente poniendo freno a algunos sentimientos primarios
salvación, ¿a quién temeré?
¿quién me hará temblar?

Collection. Approximately $290,000 was collected to help ensure the care and support of these men who have served the People of
God for so many years.
2014 National Vocation Awareness Week
This is an opportunity for each one of us to look at our own
vocation. So often we only think of priesthood and religious life
when we think of vocations. But we must remember that
marriage and consecrated single life are also vocations or callings
from God.
Often we ask the question, “What do I want to do with my life?”
I would encourage us to change that question to “What does God
want me to do with my life?” It is a subtle difference. However,
it is when we follow the will of God in our lives that we find true
fulfillment, we become who God truly has called us to be, and
we fulfill the Lord’s mission in the world by building up the
Kingdom of heaven on earth.
In our baptism we become sons and daughters of God. We also
receive the Holy Spirit and the seeds of our vocation. Each
vocation has a few things in common, regardless of whether you
are a priest, deacon, religious, married or single:
Please pray the following prayer with me each day that each one
of us follows the Lord’s call.
November 2-8, 2014 is National Vocation Awareness Week.
