ALL SOULS NOVENA The Feast of All Souls, (Commemoration of all the Faithful Departed), owes its beginning to seventh century monks who decided to offer the mass on the day after Pentecost for their deceased community members. However, the choice of the date (Nov. 2) for All Soul's Day is attributed to St. Odilo, the fifth Abbot of Cluny (city of France famous for the Abby), because he wanted to follow the example of Cluny in offering special prayers and singing the Office of the Dead on the day following the feast of All Saints. The All Souls Novena will begin on Wednesday, November 2 at 7:00 a.m. Mass and continue at the daily 7:00 a.m. mass through Friday, November 11. Envelopes to remember your loved ones will be available in the Parish Office and the Book Store. O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of thy servants and handmaids departed, the remission of all their sins; that through pious supplications they may obtain the pardon they have always desired. Who livest and reignest with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen. I"t is a holy and a wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins." 2 Macabees 12:46 The 2017 Mass Book will be available on Tuesday, November 1. Please stop by the Parish Office to schedule a Mass. NEW PARISHIONERS...ARE WELCOMED AT ST. JOHN’S. If you want to join our Parish Family, please attend one of our orientation meetings which are held one Sunday a month at 9:30 a.m., Rooms E&F. For dates please call the Parish Office or speak to someone at the Information Booth in the Loggia after Masses on Sundays. Everyone interested in joining is welcome to the meeting! We have coffee, donuts and juice for the little ones - and you will be out in time for the 11:00 a.m. Mass. CURRENT PARISHIONERS, please inform us of any name, address or phone changes; this will assist in keeping your records up to date. Thank You!! Page 3 October 23, 2016 PASTOR’S REFLECTION Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 23, 2016 Dear Friends, Each of us is poor in our own way because we are all sinners. We need God’s rich mercy to heal us, transform us, and raise us up. Each of us has “I” trouble from time to time. It’s all about me. However, if we can admit our need for God’s mercy, like the tax collector (in today’s Gospel proclamation), and give God the glory; our prayer can pierce the clouds and will find rest in the God who judges justly, affirms the right, and will not delay in answering our prayers. Take time to refresh the life of the Spirit that has been given you. Then witness your faith like disciples and believers throughout the ages. Be assured of my prayers for you and for your dear ones. May the good Lord bless you with wisdom and peace. Please pray for me. In Christ, Msgr. Pablo A. Navarro PARISH PASTORAL INSTITUTE (PPI) Msgr. Pablo A. Navarro History of the Primitive Church Wednesday, November 2, 7:29 p.m. AE-102-103 After Pentecost and the commissioning of the disciples to Evangelize the world the Church grew at a miraculous pace. With the growth of the Church and the advent of all sorts of gentile converts to the faith, the Church could no longer remain as a free charismatic group of faithful. The Church had to set order in order to keep peace, harmony, and unity among the great diversity of peoples that embraced the faith. Join us to find out more about the beginnings of our Church History. PopeFrancis@ pontifex May nothing keep you from growing in friendship with God.
