DEPENDING ON GOD
“Getting by with a little help from our friends” is not an idea that began
with the Beatles. Certainly the idea of “getting by with a little help from
God” goes back at least to the first reading today from Exodus. How we
get that help, however, is the key to this weekend’s scriptures.
No matter how inadequate Moses felt to the task God had given him,
he persevered—even though he needed help from the people around him.
The Israelites especially depended on God for freedom. The woman in
the Gospel, desperate and destitute, had no one to depend on, but still she
would not give up. She could not afford to bribe the unscrupulous judge,
but she pestered him into weariness until finally he met her demands.
We sometimes need to turn to others to help us through difficult
times; but if we always turn to God, we won’t be disappointed, for our
help, the psalm assures us, is from the Lord.
TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — As long as Moses’
hands were kept uplifted, Joshua and his
men had the better part of the battle with
Amalek (Exodus 17:8-13).
Psalm — Our help is from the Lord,
who made heaven and earth (Psalm
121).
Second Reading — Remain faithful;
proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or not
(2 Timothy 3:14 — 4:2).
Gospel — God will secure the rights of
the chosen who call out day and night
(Luke 18:1-8).

“Let us not close our hearts within our own particular concerns,
but let us open them to all of humanity.” - Pope Francis’ World
Mission Sunday Message, 2016
On October 23rd, World Mission Sunday will be celebrated in
our local church and throughout the world. On this 90th World
Mission Sunday, your role is critical in reminding your parish
family of our common missionary call. We have the opportunity to change the world through merciful acts as our prayers and
sacrifices accompanying the good works carried out in Mission
Churches across the globe. This annual gift, gathered through
the World Mission Sunday collection for the Society for the
Propagation of the Faith, supports missionaries serving in more
than 1,111 mission dioceses, each of which fervently needs
help to provide service and spiritual comfort for the poorest and
most vulnerable, sanctifying them with the Sacraments and
offering the Lord’s hope and peace.
Next weekend our parish will celebrate World Mission Sunday
when we are invited to support the 1,111 mission dioceses
around the world. Please keep the missions in your prayers and
please be generous in next weekend’s collection.

October 16, 2016
A Message from our ICS Altar Servers!
I began to altar serve in 5th grade and now I am in 8th grade. I am sad to be graduating because
I won’t get to volunteer for school masses. When I altar serve I feel like I can be myself, even
though I can be a bit shy in school. I like altar serving because I can tell everyone I am
CATHOLIC AND PROUD when I wear those clothes! Showing my faith is the best thing I
can do. In my life, I feel that faith comes first, and then I can worry about other things later.
I am very proud to be Catholic. - Sophie Ramos, ICS Altar Server & Student
Getting to altar serve is a privilege because I
get to be with God on the altar. I started altar serving in 5th grade and now I am in 8th
grade. When I altar serve I feel special, but
everyone is equally as special. This year I
will be graduating, but I will still serve on
the weekends because I go to this Church as
well as this School. If you like to serve God
there are many ways to do so… you could
be a Eucharistic Minister, a sacristan and
much more. Life is short, so serve God because we all have one goal. That goal is to
get to heaven.

No

María a Jesús.
poseerle con más seguridad que por María;
