Jer 29:11 All Saints is a tithing parish, giving of our time, talent, and treasure so as to give glory to God. In today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us how to pray. Prayer is not mere words, but the direction of our intention to God. Jesus gave us what we call “the Lord’s Prayer” (the “Our Father”) as a way to widen our vision of how to pray to God. He then goes on to tell a parable of the persistent pleader. Ask … Seek … Knock. Such a simple message, but how hard this can be to put into practice. When our stance before God becomes one of approaching in faith to ask, seek, and knock at the door of the Kingdom, we learn the wonder of God the Father. Psalm 138 S chool B ack -P ack A ssistance P rogram Each August, the St. Vincent de Paul Society receives calls for assistance from needy families struggling to provide the backpacks and school supply items required for their children returning to school. In response, the All Saints Conference will sponsor a parish drive to provide a new backpack and basic school supplies for elementary and middle school children identified by the Vincentian caseworkers. For two weeks, beginning Sat., July 16, there will be a display at each entrance of the church with tags listing items required. Please take a tag naming the item you can provide. Those donations can be placed in bins which will be part of the display from Sat.-Sun., July 23-31. Your generosity will provide the fresh start every child deserves as they begin a new school year. [Luke 11:9]. Jesus assures us that if we ask him, God will take care of what we need. The problem is that in our culture we often confuse what we really need with what we simply want. Many people need very little. However, we usually want so much more. A good steward only asks God for what he needs. w w w . a l l s a i n t s va . o r g Seventeenth Sunday of Ordinary Time classes. This is to help families adapt to the new twoyear sacramental program. I mportant S acramental P reparation P rogram C hanges for 2016-2017 For this coming year, the Religious Education (RE) office has established a two-year sacramental preparation program. This means that children and teens who are receiving a sacrament will need to be enrolled in Religious Education class during their sacrament year and the preceding year. For example, a child who would receive First Communion in second grade in 2017-2018, would need to be enrolled in first grade for 2016-2017. This program will include the First Communion, Confirmation, and Christian Initiation sacrament preparation programs. 2016-2017: Program Transitional Year • This year, all children may be enrolled into their appropriate grade regardless of whether they completed a preceding year of religious education E ucharistic A doration Ask. This packet will ensure that the child has the adequate preparation they need as they approach their sacrament year. These packets are available in the RE Office. • Please note: If a child is scheduled to receive a sacrament in 2017-2018 they need to be enrolled into an RE class in 2016-2017 for their preparation year. Classes are available for children in Pre-Kindergarten – grade 8. In these classes, students learn about their Catholic faith and how to live their faith in their day-to-day lives. They are also prepared to receive the Sacraments. There will be seminarians organizing sports and games, and the Knights of Columbus will prepare a delicious lunch. A parent must complete a permission slip for each server who attends. W est V irginia F lood R elief On behalf of Medical Missionaries and Dr. Gil Irwin, we thank you for your generous support of our mission to provide necessary items to the flood victims of West Virginia. The response has been overwhelming and heartwarming to see the amount of items that have been donated. One trip has been made to the affected area, with another due this week. In the future more help maybe necessary and I will keep Father Lee advised. El autobús saldrá del parqueo de la parroquia de Todos los Santos a las 11:30 am. El juego es a la 1:05 pm. La hora de regreso es aproximadamente a las 5:00-6:00 PM.
