Dear Parishioners,
A woman had three sons. She had to raise the boys herself, working
nights as a seamstress. Her sons grew up and became very successful.
One became a businessman, the other a lawyer, and the other a television journalist. After all her years of painstaking work, their mother began to get old and lose her eyesight.
The three sons each decided to do something to show their mother
how much they appreciated her. The businessman said to his brothers. “I
am going to build mom a big mansion to live in.” The lawyer tried to outdo him: “I am going to buy her a
limousine and hire a chauffeur to drive her around.” The journalist would have nothing of this. “You guys
don’t know our mother at all. She doesn’t want a big fancy house or a limo. All she ever wants to do is go to
Mass and pray. “I know about an order of monks down in Argentina who train parrots to recite the entire
Bible. All you have to do is name a chapter and verse, and the parrot will recite it. The parrots cost $700,000
each, but it’s perfect for mom.” So they each did what they set out to do. A few months later, they each received thank-you notes from their mother. The businessman opened his. “Dear Son, thank you for this beautiful house. I love living in it. The only problem is, since I am losing my eyesight, I keep getting lost. So I
pretty much just stay in my bedroom and the kitchen.” The lawyer opened his thank-you note. “Dear Son,
thank you for the comfortable car and the nice driver. He is wonderful. The only problem is, all I want to do
is go to Mass and come home, but he wants to drive all over town, so we bicker all the time.” The journalist
opened his: “Dear Son, you really know your mother. You got me just what I wanted. That chicken was delicious.”
Last week we held the graduation of St. Mary’s High School. This past week we had the graduation of St.
Mary’s Kindergarten, and this coming week we will have the graduation of St. Mary’s Elementary School.
St. Mary’s entire parish wishes God’s blessings upon you, and congratulates you for your accomplishment.
So in this time of graduations, I would like to share three things; three things that apply not only to our
graduates, but to ALL of us.
One customary thing to say at graduations is: “Believe in yourselves!” But I am not going to tell you to
believe in yourselves. We human beings are weak and fallible. If you put your faith in yourself, you will
wind up disappointed. Forget about believing in yourselves. Believe in God instead. He is strong and true.
He will take care of you. He will not disappoint you. It makes more sense to believe in Him.
The second customary thing to say is: “You can accomplish anything you set your mind to!” But I am not
going to say that, either. It might be true; it might not be. There are no guarantees in this life.
What I am going to tell you is this: The good Lord has a plan for you. Whatever it is, He will give you the
grace to accomplish it—you can be sure of that. If we give ourselves over to God’s holy will, He will see us
through every hardship and every set-back.
The third customary thing to say is: “Stay focused on your goals!” That would be good advice. But I am
going to give you BETTER advice. Stay focused on Jesus Christ. If our eyes are fixed on Christ, then we
know what our goals ought to be. Maybe you are saying to yourselves: “Father, how can we keep our eyes
fixed on Christ, if we can’t even see Him? We see Christ with our inner eyes of faith. Our inner eyes see
better than our outer eyes do. If we keep our inner eyes fixed on Christ, then we always know what to do.
We as St. Mary’s Parish congratulate all our graduates for all your accomplishments. In closing, may each
and every one of us remember these three things: Believe in God. Seek His will. Keep your eyes on Christ.
And have a good and safe summer.
God Bless Us All

Moved with pity
As Jesus approached the gate of
the town, a man who had died was
being carried out. He was his
mother’s only son, and she was a
widow; and with her was a large
crowd from the town. When the Lord
saw her, he had compassion for her
and said’ “Do not weep”. (Luke 7:12-13)
Adult: What might a greater
sense of compassion allow you to
do for someone this week?
Child: When did you try to
understand what another person
was feeling?

Parish Library
"Praying Our Goodbyes," by
Joyce Rupp, is a book for anyone
who has experienced loss, whether it
be a job change, the end of a
friendship, the death of a loved one,
or financial struggles. It is designed
to help readers reflect, revitalize and
re-orient themselves. While focusing
on the spiritual aspect of loss, Rupp
maintains a sound theological and
psychological grounding. She bases
her reflections on scripture to help
heal the hurts caused by goodbyes
and the anxieties encountered by
change. Available in the Prayer
section of the SJN Parish Library.

The Eucharistic Miracle of Canosio
Italy 1630
“Fr. Antonio Reinardi’s deep faith in the Eucharist was
responsible for saving the village of Canosio from the
torrent floods of the Maira River by means of a blessing
with the Blessed Sacrament. There were many
conversions among those who witnessed the miracle. To
this day, during the octave of Corpus Christi, the
townspeople of Canosio celebrate a feast commemorating
the miracle”.
“Canosio is a small village in the region of Val Maira, in
the diocese of Saluzzo. In 1630, the townspeople had
grown cold in their religious observance due to the spread
of Calvinist heresy”.
“The day after the feast of Corpus Christi, the Maira
River flooded because of a torrential rainfall. The flood
waters were so violent and powerful that some massive
stones were dislodged from the mountainside and
threatened to destroy the valley and the village itself. Fr.
Antonio Reinardi, the pastor of the town, rang the church
bells to assemble the people and exhorted them to pray
that the Lord would stop the flood. He vowed that if the
village of Canosio were spared from the flood’s
destruction, the townspeople would always celebrate an
annual feast of Corpus Christi. Fr. Reinardi then placed
the Blessed Sacrament in the monstrance. He processed
towards the raging flood with some of the faithful as they
all recited the “Miserere” Psalm 51. After he blessed the
raging waters, the rain stopped at once and the flood
waters immediately returned to their normal level. This
incident revived the faith of the townspeople of Canosio,
and to this day they observe Fr. Reinardi’s vow”.
“Unfortunately, many of the 17th century documents,
preserved in the parish archives attesting to the miracle,
were burned during the war between France and Spain.
What is extant, however, is a copy of the document
describing the events, left by the pastor who was an
eyewitness”.

Domingo 5
St. Mary’s Parish
Annapolis, Maryland
Estimados Parroquianos,
“Ustedes muchachos, so saben nada de nuestra madre. Ella no quiere una casa grande y elegante o una
limusina.
Me encanta vivir allí.
Tal
vez te digas a ti mismo. Vemos a Jesús
Busca SU voluntad. Mantén tus ojos en Cristo. Y tengan un verano
bonito y seguro.
Dios Nos Bendiga a Todos
Pe. Tizio
