Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
Friday was a happy day for our
415 students as we completed another successful year for Holy Spirit
School. Congratulations to Rita Parsons, our principal, and our dedicated staff who give so much to educate and care
for our students.
A few weeks ago in the bulletin, you saw an
insert about “Surveying Our Heritage.” This
project is part of an overall project to better understand our cultural heritage and the diversity
that is part of our community. Each person and
each culture brings something to our community
that allows us to learn and grow. Part of this
project includes the large maps in the East Vestibule upon which many of you have placed a
pin on the country of your origin.
Now, we are asking parishioners to answer
the following questions to further our understanding of our heritage. The questions are:
1. What is your full name?
2. In what city and country were you born?
3. What country (or countries) and city (if you
know) do your ancestors come from?
4. How many generations has your family been
in the United States (e.g. if your grandparents came over that would be three generations)?
5. Why did your family choose Indianapolis to
live?
6. What are the ages and genders of the individuals living in your household?
7. What is the primary language spoken at
home?
8. How can Holy Spirit Catholic Church’s Intercultural Committee help to integrate our
community?
Could you answer these questions on line at our
website (www.holyspirit-indy.org) or email them
to me ([email protected]) or send a letter!

SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I
cannot change, courage to change the things I
can, and wisdom to know the difference. Living
one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a
time; accepting hardships as the pathway to
peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it; trusting that He will make
all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I
may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him
forever in the next. Amen.
-- Reinhold Niebuhr
If the only prayer you said in your whole life was,
"thank you," that would suffice.

Novena to St Anthony of Padua
B. 1195 D. 1231
Feast Day, June 13
Pray: June 4 thru June 12
O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of
Saints, your love for God and
charity for His creatures, made
you worthy, while on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles
waited on your word, which you
were ever ready to speak for
those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this
thought, I implore you to obtain for me (mention your
request). The answer to my prayer may require a
miracle; even so you are the Saint of Miracles.
O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was
ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition
into the ears of the Sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to
be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart
will ever be yours. Amen.
Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
St Anthony has a great reputation for retrieving lost
belongings. He was canonized within a year of his
death and was declared a Doctor of the Church by
Pius XII in 1946.
Picnic
We will have our first annual picnic

a covered dish of your choice to share with friends
from Holy Spirit. This event has been planned for all
our church parishioners to enjoy good food in the
spirit of friendship and camaraderie. There will be
music, volley ball, entertainment and games for

placed a country of origin of their ancestors on the
map, to access a web site we have set up for this
purpose. On this web site (www.hol spirit-ind .or ),
you will narrate briefly your heritage and religious
memories. What do you remember about worshipping God in your countries of origin? How are religious rites done at those far away lands? How are
they different from the ones done in the U.S.?

notes is not an efficient way to study. In this academy we
will discover what does work and practice those strategies
so students know how to use them come the Fall. Open

can control their actions and their words to be helpful in
their social circles. Open to all girls in grades 5-8. Cost is

CRISTO LES DICE TAMBIÉN A
USTEDES: ¡LEVÁNTENSE!
∗

muerte, aunque indigno y pecador, me
amamos. Las personas que te
encomendamos sufren mucho, afligidos
