A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy apostles Parish Family,
Wow, the Cubs are on a roll! By the time you
read this, we should be well into the Cubs vs.
Sox series.
This weekend is our Ministry Fair provided
by our Gratitude and Hope Committee. They
do a great job of making this fun. They are a
wonderful group that has a lot of fun together
and watches out for each other, and so
provide a great model of what being part of a
ministry can be like.
I hope you take this opportunity to check
out some of the ministries you find interesting. Next week will be our time and talent sign
up weekend. We can always use a shot in the
arm provided by new members of ministries.
We need help in all ministries at Mass, especially servers and Eucharistic ministers. If you
are interested in helping people, check out
the outreach section. We can use help in the
St. Vincent de Paul ministry, especially some
younger people to help deliver beds for kids.
We have a ton of opportunities in many ways
with Family Faith Formation to help teach or
just be a good parent or grandparent to the
children and youth.
Please consider how you want to be part of
a ministry. It is in giving that we receive!
Have a Blessed week!
Father Paul
Loving God, Our creator, our savior,
our companion,
bless this journey of a new school
year that we undertake.
Refresh our souls and renew our
spirits as we embrace the beautiful
ministry you have called us to.
We welcome those who are new to
this community and
ask that you strengthen them to
share the wonderful gifts you
have given them.
Lord, make our hearts pure
as we prepare for the return
of students to school,
and may you guide them to
return with open hearts and
minds eager to learn.
We ask this in Your
name, Amen.
WE OFFER OUR PRAYERS FOR:
All the homeless, the unemployed, the military, the addicted, the
grieving, the imprisoned, and the physically and emotionally ill.

SVdPS Helps at Stressful Times
Raising a family as a single working parent is challenging.
When one of your children has special needs, the added
financial obligations can stress even the tightest budget.
A mother recently found out that her
son's disability benefit had been
discontinued just as her car required expensive repairs. These
financial issues left her unable to
pay her ComEd bill in full for several
months. Threatened with a disconnect notice, she
reached out to the St. Vincent de Paul Society for assistance. Thanks to your support of the SVdPS, Vincentians
helped this mother pay ComEd and maintain her service.
“The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these.”

to engage our teens. To learn more about this wonderful
program visit confirmationstudy.com/workbook-preview/
and watch the “Guided Tour” video. If you feel called to

call John Jelinek in Family Faith Formation office as soon
as possible at 815-385-5673 x118.

ORACION A Nuestra Señora Desatanudos

Community Kitchen—Sharing God’s Love
We are feeding the hungry, at no cost, in the name of
Christ, every Monday at 6 PM. in the Fr. Sherry Parish
Center. Doors open at 5:45 PM. Please contact Mayra
Rivas for information, to volunteer, or to donate food or
supplies, 815-996-0076 or [email protected].
This week we served 79 guests.
Many guests have expressed how
much they look forward to Monday
nights at the Community Kitchen.
They tell us that the food is good, and
they really appreciate the good
meals. But they also tell us that the
most wonderful thing is having a
night out with people, having friendly conversations
over dinner, and not feeling lonely for a while. Everyone
is treated with dignity, and all feel that they are significant in the community, because they truly are. Some
guests have explained that they are at home all week,
perhaps due to poor health or disability or lack of
funds, but on Monday nights it's important for them to
get out and share the evening meal with friends. Often
new guests keep to themselves when they first come to
the Community Kitchen. After a little while, though,
they remember how to relax and to smile with others.
We are fortunate to have these wonderful guests visit
with us so that we can smile along with them. We're
sure that God is smiling too.
