Pastors Corner Nov. 15, 2015 Page 2 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time Become More Like Jesus/ The End of the World At the beginning of today‟s gospel Jesus says to his disciples: “In those days after that tribulation the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will be falling from the skies, and the powers in the heavens will be shaken.” At the end of the gospel Jesus says: “But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but only the Father.” In this gospel Jesus is speaking about the end of the world. Concern over when the world would end is nothing new. The disciples of Jesus questioned him about it, people throughout the centuries have wondered about it, and many people today still try to predict it. Remember, Jesus said that the day or hour no one knows. What we do know is that we have to be prepared. Before we go on a trip we know we have to prepare some things. If we enter a competition the better prepared we are the better we do. Is our faith any different? If our goal is eternal life we have to make preparations. If the end of the world is coming, what are we doing to prepare ourselves? Becoming more like Jesus is great preparation for the end of the world. As we approach the upcoming Year of Mercy, perhaps we can think of ways we can grow in mercy to be more like Jesus. Perhaps we can think of ways we can share mercy to radiate the presence of Jesus. And perhaps we can practice mercy, so that we will receive mercy when the end of the world comes. For Jesus said: “As you judge, so shall you be judged, and the measure you measure with will be measured out to you” (Matthew 7:2). The Year of Mercy is a time to become more like Jesus, who said “blest are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy” (Matthew 5:7).Fr. Tom Second Collection – Next weekend, there will be a 2nd collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. This money responds to the needs of low-income people in our archdiocese and throughout the country by creating jobs, providing affordable housing, ensuring decent wages and organizing for change. Please help with this campaign. The Happenings Nov. 15, 2015 Page 3 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time As many of you know, we had an arrangement with “Lifetouch Church Directory and Portraits, Inc.”, to provide free family photos and parish directories to members of our parish. The photography was to have commenced on September 29, 2015, but due to circumstances beyond our control, the program had to be delayed. We would like to apologize for any inconveniences that were caused by this delay. That being said, the good news is that arrangements have been made again with “Lifetouch” to conduct the same type of photo and directory program that we had enjoyed in prior years. Our new agreement has the photo sessions commencing on June 21, 2016. Two additional highlights that have been added is that, along with the Tuesday through Friday photo sessions, we will have both Saturday and Sunday photo sessions available for the duration of the program and there will be two cameras in use during these weekend sessions. This will more than double your opportunity to select the photo session you would like to have. Also, we will be able to schedule the photo session of your choice “online” instead of having to call the Parish Office. As soon as the “online” feature is available for your use we will advise everyone.
