18º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
"So they said to him, 'What can we do to accomplish the
works of God?' Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is
the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent.'"
These fledgling believers came to Jesus seeking direction.
They had witnessed his miracles, heard his teachings, and
been miraculously fed by his hands. Now they wanted to
know what they should do. How should they respond to
the revelations they were beholding?
Most of us would expect an "active" answer to a question
like theirs. We tend to think of God's work as things like
the corporal works of mercy--feeding the hungry and
sheltering the homeless--or the spiritual works of mercy-instructing the ignorant, comforting the afflicted, and so
on. But Jesus gives a surprising answer. Instead of focusing on these external tasks, he tells the crowd that God's
work is to believe in him. They should accept the gift God
gave: the Son. This, apparently, is the appropriate starting
point for doing God's work.
And really, it makes sense. If we move too quickly into
doing external actions, we risk not having enough interior
strength behind them. Feeding the hungry is always good,
but feeding the hungry as an expression of our love for
Jesus is going to enable us to feed them with more compassion, more generosity, and more long-term commitment.
When faith in Jesus is foremost in our lives, then the other
important tasks that are all part of God's work will fall
into place. If we love Jesus, we will naturally want to love
his people. So let us examine the good works that we do
and be sure that they have as their starting point a deep
and abiding faith in the Son of God.
El domingo pasado escuchábamos en el Evangelio
cómo Jesús dio de comer a la multitud con tan sólo los
pocos panes y pescados que tenían. Veíamos también la
admiración de las personas por el milagro de haber
comido hasta saciarse. La gente comió muy bien, por
esa razón seguían a Jesús. En el Evangelio de hoy Jesús,
explica así: "Yo soy el pan de la vida. El que viene a mí
no tendrá hambre y el que cree en mí nunca tendrá
sed" (Jn 6, 35). Jesús, deseaba que sus seguidores pasaran del plano material al espiritual. Ya que existe el
riesgo de quedarnos ahí solo en admirar el milagro. Tal
como pasó a muchos en su tiempo. Las personas sabían
que volverían a tener hambre, por eso lo buscaban -comer gratis no le hace mal a nadie-- y Jesús les dice:
"Ustedes no me andan buscando por haber visto señales
milagrosas, sino por haber comido de aquellos panes
hasta saciarse" (Jn 6, 26).
¿Por qué buscas tú a Jesús? ¿Qué es lo que él sacia en
ti? Para que puedas tener una respuesta más explícita
veamos lo que el documento del Vaticano II, "Lumen
Gentium" (§48). Explica: "Porque Cristo, levantado sobre la tierra, atrajo hacia sí a todos (cf. Jn 12, 32)". Cuando se entra por el camino de la fe, se sacia nuestra
hambre y sed. Es decir, el creer en Cristo Jesús como
pan de vida es un fuerte llamado al encuentro personal
con este misterio. Esto es un verdadero reto para nuestra
vida tan ajetreada que llevamos, le damos muy poco
tiempo a estar con Dios.

Preparing for the coming of Peter to USA
In two months we will have the Holy Father the Pope's visit to the United States. This
visit is a very important event for the Catholic Church in these times of confusion in moral values and legal changes that affect the basis of society which is the family, and his divine nature. The Pope will be making a great journey, ranking from meetings with the heads of States,
civil organizations and most importantly the encounter with their Christian people to give testimony of faith on Earth especially here in the USA.
For this great meeting of families in Philadelphia the whole Church had been preparing
in different ways, the Neo-Catechumenal Way conducted a “national retreat” and sent over
300 teams of 2 by 2 without haversack or money through all United States, (as in the times of
St. Francis of Assisi) to announce to the parish, pastors, priests, and whoever they meet on
their way, the good news of the risen Christ love to the sinner, and the coming of Peter in the
presence of Pope Francis. They spent a week in the Providence of God. Our Church Mother of
Christ was visited by a priest and a seminarian who they announced to Fr. Juan Maria and me
this great news that comforted and consoled us very much.

Preparándonos para la venida de Pedro a USA
En dos meses tendremos la visita del Santo Padre El Papa a Estados Unidos. Esta visita es
un acontecimiento muy importante para la Iglesia Católica en estos tiempos de confusión en
valores morales y cambios legales que afectan la base de la sociedad que es la Familia y su
naturaleza divina. El Papa se ha impuesto una gran jornada para ese encuentro con jefes de
estado, organizaciones civiles y lo más importante el Encuentro con su pueblo Cristiano para dar
testimonio de la Fe sobre la tierra especialmente aquí en USA.
Para este gran encuentro de las Familias en Filadelfia toda la iglesia se ha preparado de
diferentes formas, pero el Camino Neo-Catecumenal realizó una Convivencia nacional y envió a
más de 300 equipos de 2 en 2 sin alforja ni dinero por todo Estado Unidos, (como en los tiempos
de San Francisco de Asís) para anunciar a los párrocos, sacerdotes y a los que se encontraban a
su paso la Buena Noticia de Jesucristo Resucitado, el amor al pecador y la venida de Pedro en la
presencia del Papa Francisco. Estos enviados pasaron una semana amparados en la providencia
de Dios. Nuestra Parroquia Madre de Cristo fuimos visitados por un sacerdote y un seminarista
que nos anunciaron al P. Juan María y a mí esta gran noticia que nos consoló y reconforto mucho.
