PASTOR’S COLUMN
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I saw this reflection in Bringing Home the Word published by Liguori Publications
and wanted to share it with you.
FOLLOW GOD’S RECIPE
I’ve never been creative, but I do enjoy baking. It allows me to create something
while following a strict set of instructions, which appeals to my love of organization.
Most recipes I use come with a picture of the completed dessert in all its delicious
glory. However, even if I adhere religiously to the recipe, my baked creations rarely
look like the pictures. Maybe I didn't whisk the eggs briskly enough or twist the frosting tube just so.
It’s frustrating not to know exactly how my dessert will look. However, as long as I
put the right ingredients in, the result usually taste great. Dessert is dessert--sugar always triumphs in the end!
The readings we’re given at the end of the liturgical year are focused on another
kind of end-the end of the world. The varying description of this “end time” usually include cosmic battles between good and evil that can leave us feeling confused, uncertain, and even frightened. As with baking, we can’t know exactly how the events of this
end time will play out.
But what we hear consistently from Jesus is that no matter how the events occur,
good will triumph over evil. The world is ultimately in God’s hands, and God (and
good) will emerge victorious.
Our challenge, then, is to trust God and be prepared to follow the recipe, so to
speak. The key ingredients: recognition of our morality and a desire to fervently follow the Lord.
Our lives are brief, and we can’t delay discipleship. We need to be centered in
God now. By sticking to the recipe today, we can remain confident that God will welcome us into his kingdom in the end.
Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time
FAITH BUILDING
JESUS IS COMING!
No one knows when Jesus is coming again,
except the Father.
You should always be prepared!
If you were told that Jesus was coming in 3
days, think of the things you want
 to do,
 say,
 think,
 change
 pray
to get yourself ready for Jesus.
Make a list of 5 things you thought of to be
ready for the coming of Jesus. Read your list
every day and make those things happen.

OLPH Staff Retreat - Wednesday, November 18
Our staff will be going on for a retreat Wednesday,
November 18 with Bishop Joe. Please keep us in your
prayers.
The Sisters of Agape – Sunday, November 22
The Sisters of Agape is a community of religious nuns
who will come to visit us and promote their religious
articles. Please support them by checking out their
rosaries and other religious symbols after the Masses.
All Souls Mortuary – Sunday, December 13
As the season of Advent tells us: "Be prepared”, let us
consider preparing for our own and our loved ones'
"funeral pre-need arrangements". Representatives
from All Souls Mortuary will come to visit us on Sunday, December 13 to answer any of your questions.
Better Late Than Never!
As a family, we salute all of our veterans who have
offered their lives for the peace and freedom for our
country and the rest of the world. We pray that our
government and us as a nation will always strive to
render them the love, care, and honor they deserve.
Let us keep them and their families in our prayers.
Thanksgiving Day Thoughts
Thanksgiving is here once again! I encourage each
one of us to celebrate the true spirit of this great and
sacred American holiday: God and family. Please join
us at Mass on Thursday, November 26 at 9:30 am.
I pray that you will be able to really take time to be
with your loved ones. Best Buy and Target will always
be there. But not Mom and Dad.
Also, Thanksgiving would not be genuine without
sharing. Please check out our list for items for the
Thanksgiving Baskets. Look to see if you can brighten
up another family's Thanksgiving.
Simbang Gabi 2015 – Thank you for the "Big Help"
Please join us in our Simbang Gabi celebration on
Friday, December 18 at 7pm. The Hispanic Community are a huge help as they assist us in the
"Misa" (Mass) as well as the "Mesa" ("Table" of food
after the mass). Thank you, Fr. Pako, Dn. Carlos, and
our Hispanic Community!
"Little Rock Bible Study Group" Now Bigger!
I joined the Little Rock Bible Study group last Monday,
November 9 and I was so happy to see new members! You might also like to check out this wonderful
group on Mondays at 9:15 am in the Parish Center
and be enriched by studying Sacred Scripture.
Thank you so very much for celebrating the Sunday
Mass with us. You are the reason why we are here.
We are here with only one purpose: to serve
The People of God. God bless you all!

PAPAL INTENTIONS FOR NOVEMBER
There is no better time of year to review the
important family rules that help to keep all children
safe. It takes just a few moments to review with
your children what to do in an emergency, who the
special and safe adults in their life are, and the
importance of not keeping secrets. Some secrets,
like a gift for a special occasion, can be fun and
safe to keep. Secrets that hurt others, involve any
kind of unsafe or inappropriate touching or anything that bothers a child – are secrets that are
NOT safe to keep. Help your child understand the
difference.

MINISTERIO HISPANO

diferencia.

NOVEMBER 22 AND 23
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) carries out Jesus’ mission
“to bring glad tidings to the poor … to proclaim
liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the
blind, to let the oppressed go free” (Luke 4:18)
For over 40 years, CCHD has worked to defend human dignity and take poverty off the
map. Local programs supported by CCHD have
changed neighborhoods across the country.
With the tradition of improving education, housing situations, and economic development,
CCHD continues to make a positive impact on
communities nationwide. We need your help to
continue to meet the needs of more than 46
million people who still struggle to overcome
poverty.
Please support this good work.
Envelopes will be in the pews next week.
