The church unites in praying for those who are critically ill. Our prayers can be a very effective channel for the healing power of Christ. Some people have a crisis or illness. Others are chronically ill. Both types of situations need the care and concern of the entire Body of Christ. At the request of concerned family members, names of the critically ill will be placed on our prayer list and will remain on the sick list for four (4) weeks. After that time they will be removed from the list. If a member of the family or the sick person himself or herself wishes to remain on the list, they have only to call or e-mail us and we will be happy to oblige. Beacon Music Series The Chime Time Bell Bonus Dear Fellow Community Member, We are now in our Second Phase of securing funds for the Repairs of the Bell Tower, the Bells and the Carillon. We ask you to help push us over the top so that Fr. Daniel might be able to finally sign off on this project. All Donations are welcome, but, we do have some categories listed below for you to consider. Thank you for considering this request and we look forward to your positive response. Sincerely, Frances Howlett, Chair Dr. Karen M. Beluso, Co-chair _______________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yes, I am pleased to sponsor the The Chime Time Bell Bonus ______ $1000 St. Patrick Bell Sponsor (two Beacon Music Series season passes) ______ $500 St. Mary Bell Sponsor (one pair of tickets to three Beacon Music Series events of the donor’s choice) ______ $250 St. Joseph Bell Sponsor (one pair of tickets to two Beacon Music Series events of the donor’s choice) ______ $100 St. Anthony Bell Sponsor (one pair of tickets to one Beacon Music Series event of the donor’s choice) ______ Other Name: ___________________________________________________ Address: ____________________________________________________________________________ City: ______________________________ State: ____ Zip: ___________________________ Phone: (day) ________________________ (evening) __________________ Email ________________ Contributions are tax-deductible as provided by law. Beacon Music Series Isn’t it glorious to hear the bells ringing from the Hill again? What magnificent music they make. And the electronic Carillon is also a wonder! I am, however, partial to the sound of the real bells. They have a long history here. The 4 bells in the tower were cast by the Meneely Bell Company up in Troy, NY, and were dedicated in May of 1900. As best we know the bells are named St. Mary, St. Patrick, St. Joseph and St. Anthony. No one seems to know for certain which is which. (I welcome any insight.) The size of each of the bells is substantial. The smallest is 500 pounds and this is the C bell. Next up in size is the B Flat Bell weighing in at 800 pounds. We then have the A Flat bell which is 1200 pounds and, finally, the E Flat bell, a whopping 3000 pounds. It required tremendous effort on the part of many to get us to the point of hearing these wonders again. The cleanup effort alone was grueling. Fortunately, this time, it was done correctly. Then there was the covering of the tower so the birds could not continue to destroy the tower and the bells. Did you see the cherry picker that was used to get up there and do the work? It was massive. The bells needed some repair and the Carillon, I’m sure, was a mess! You couldn’t dare me to go up there and check it out. It’s enough that the flower room I work in is just below the bells and the horrible muck that was up there. You are aware of the savings that Fr. Daniel was able to secure in the costs of this multi-phased project. That doesn’t mean we got this done for free! There are still substantial bills to be paid for the work done. The Beacon Music Series is dedicated to securing the entire cost of the repairs. We have done a tremendous job, so far, in raising the funds needed to present 5 programs to you this season. We are now into Phase 2 of this project. Some members of the Beacon Music Series have kicked around various names for this phase and finally landed on The Chime Time Bell Bonus! We, of course, want you to purchase tickets for each of the events we have scheduled. This money goes directly to the bell tower bills. The sponsorship levels on the reverse side of this paper will push us much closer to achieving our goal rapidly. We ask you to consider helping us by taking on a small bit of the expense. I know I am extremely grateful to all of those who have donated to date. I won’t rest until we have all the monies in hand and Fr. Daniel can finally sign off on this project. (Do you really want to see me when I am sleep deprived? It’s not a pretty picture!) Remember, we have 4 more presentations in the Beacon Music Series: Plaza Theatrical Productions presentation of CINDERELLA on Saturday, January 23 at 7 PM. Andy Cooney and the Strings of Tara on Saturday, February 6 at 7 PM. Adam Trent from Broadway’s The Illusionists on Friday, March 18th at 7 PM. We also have Sounds Brass Quintet performing in the Church on Sunday, April 10th at 1 PM following the 11:30 Mass. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do to make the Beacon Music Series a success. And a special thank you for helping to make the bells ring out again!
