This Sunday, the gospel shows that miracles happen not to induce faith, but in RESPONSE to faith. At death’s apparent triumph over Jairus’ daughter, the crowd ridicules Jesus and Jairus faith. “Just have faith,” Jesus counsels. Unlike Jairus’ faith which was clearly expressed, a nameless woman’s faith is silent, content “but to touch Jesus clothes.” Nonetheless she was cured of her seemingly incurable illness. “Daughter”, Jesus names her, “your faith has saved you.” Then there are the thousands of small miracles that no-one knows about except for those concerned, but which these people know are the work of the power of God. And if faith is so powerful, why do we have such little faith on many occasions? There is story within a story in the gospel reading worth to be noted. The crowd is pressing against Jesus on every side and He asks, "Who touched me?" What can possibly be so important about the fact that someone touched Him? He has spent all His entirely earthly ministry healing to blind and the lame. People have been touching Him wherever He has gone and yet now He asks, "Who touched Me? When we reach out to God in faith and believe that He will be there for us, it is at those times when God will cry out once again, "Who touched Me?" St. Paul tells us that Christ is the power of God. The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that in the sacramental anointing of the sick, the church brings to those who ask for it that very same healing touch of Jesus and a special gift of the Holy Spirit. It provides the graces of "strengthening, peace and courage to overcome the difficulties that go with the condition of serious illness or the frailty of old age," renewing "trust and faith in God" and strengthening against the evil one's temptations to give in to "discouragement and anguish in the face of death." We touch the Lord by our faith. And the Lord touches us back in response to our faith through the sacraments He gave to the church. He touches us also in a deeply personal way by sending us the Holy Spirit to sustain us on our earthly journey. In a more extended way, the Lord Jesus touches us through our brothers and sisters when we serve one another in love. When we reach out to a brother or sister in need we also give flesh to the power of God at work in their lives. But more importantly, let’s allow the Lord touch the lives of others and experience the love of God through us. Blessings to all and have a good week! Fr. Padre Tony ST. In today’s Gospel we see how in faith, Jarius asked Jesus to heal his daughter and how Jesus then answered his prayer. In prayer we also come to know that we are loved by God, and in that trust we ask for healing for ourselves, our loved ones and all those who are suffering. This month, through your donations, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought the love and care of Jesus to the needy in our community by assisting families with their rent, and utility bills. God’s blessings for your generosity. St. Joseph’s Chapel We desperately need someone to fill the Wednesday morning 2-3am Holy Hour. Are you someone retired who would consider spending one hour with Our Lord each week in the chapel? Often, during the daytime hours especially, our adorers have appointments or are out of town and find it difficult to find a sub. We would like to have two people assigned to each hour to alleviate this issue. If you feel God is calling you or you would like to be placed on our substitute list, please contact the office. God’s blessings to each of you for answering “His Call”. JUNE 28, 2015 Activities of the Week This Weekend Life Teen Steubenville Youth Conf. Friday, Saturday & Sunday Mon.
