Priests Forgiving the Sin of Abortion The Holy Father has announced that during the Year of Mercy all priests will be able to forgive the sin of abortion. Up to now, the local Bishop has had to grant authorization to priests of his diocese to do so. Since Bishop Blaire arrived in the Diocese of Stockton in 1999, he has given priests the faculties to forgive the sin of abortion and will continue to do so after the Year of Mercy concludes in 2016. The Diocese of Stockton also sponsors Project Rachel which is a retreat designed to bring spiritual healing to those who have suffered the pains of abortion. If you are ill or in the hospital, please call 823-7197 to let us know, we can arrange a visit from a Priest, Deacon, or Sr. Ann. Amidst the hustle and bustle of this season, let us all keep sight of the importance of keeping our children and young people safe from danger. Training requirements to safeguard children have been established in parishes throughout the Diocese of Stockton. These training requirements help ensure that all children and youth experience a safe environment in all parish activities and events. The Diocese of Stockton mandates that all people who work with children and youth in our parishes and schools must undergo child abuse prevention training through the guidelines established by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. This training includes being fingerprinted and background checked and completing an on-line training course entitled Shield the Vulnerable. If you are planning on helping or assisting in your child’s school, you are required to complete this training. For training information, contact your local parish/school Safe Environment Coordinator. For particular help and questions you may call: Linda Dillen, Manager of Benefits & Safe Environment for the Diocese of Stockton, at (209) 466-0636. F.E.S.M. Steak & Oyster Dinner F.E.S.M.
