December 13 Collection—Retirement Fund for Religious Please give to those who have given a lifetime. “My life is tied to the liturgy and the Eucharist,” says Precious Blood Sister Ann Hipp, 95, who entered religious life in 1937. “It’s part of who we are as a community.” As a teacher for 50 years, she shared this love of the Eucharist with her students. At age 70, Sister Ann traded in her chalk for a sewing needle and today still helps craft altar cloths and vestments. Like Sister Ann, tens of thousands of senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests have dedicated their lives to sharing their faith. Generations of Catholics recall with gratitude their work in Catholic schools, hospitals, and social service agencies. Yet years of ministering for little or no pay came at a price, and now their religious communities lack adequate savings for retirement and eldercare. Your gift to the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide prescription medications, nursing care, and more. Please be generous. A Note from Fr. Manny Dear St. Francis Family, The Second and Third Sunday of Advent in every liturgical cycle always lead us to reflect on the significance of St. John the Baptist’s role and mission in the life of Jesus – as he prepared the way of the Lord in the hearts of the people by calling them to repentance. As we keep ourselves busy preparing for Christmas in our own ways of celebrating it, let us not forget to prepare our hearts, where primarily Jesus would like to be born. “Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight His paths. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be made low”, (Lk.3:5). The birth and coming of the Lord Jesus was to search the lost as clearly manifested in His ministry towards the poor, the sick and sinners. Pope Francis will proclaim the “Year of Mercy” two days from now, on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, (Dec. 8, 2015) towards the Solemnity of Christ the King ( Nov. 20, 2016). Through this year of Mercy, the Church becomes more open to the Her real mission to find ways and means for the lost to encounter the loving mercy of God. May St. John the Baptist continue to remind us to straighten our paths towards the path of God. May our Blessed Mother guide and help us to find our way with God in this confusing world. Amen. For His greater glory, Fr.
