In John’s gospel, confusion reigned at the empty tomb of Jesus. Mary of Magdala thought the body had been taken. Peter could not understand what was happening. Only the “disciple whom Jesus loved” grasped the meaning of the situation. For the “beloved disciple,” it seems, the burial cloth neatly rolled in a corner merely confirmed what he or she already suspected: Christ would be raised from the dead. You can sympathize with Mary’s jumping to a conclusion or Peter’s mystification, but what about the other disciple? Do you think that love can open your heart and mind to both faith and knowledge? How? WHERE WE LIVE, SERVE, & WALK TOGETHER IN FAITH. ST. JOSEPH’S PAG E TW O FROM THE PASTOR My Dear Parish Family, Welcome and Alleluia! As we celebrate this great Feast of Easter, remember that this is our reason for being Church. Jesus, Son of God and Son of Man suffered, died and rose again from the dead so that we might have everlasting life. Let us rejoice and be glad! Today, as you celebrate with family and friends may you be blessed with all good things. On a different note, just over a week ago, while driving over to Main Street, I saw a sign for "Good Shepherd Catholic Church" in Island Heights, NJ. My first thought was, "Hey, what’s this!? I’m always the last to know!” Well, putting any attempt at humor aside, and knowing that many of you have seen similar signs around, here’s the deal: Good Shepherd Catholic Church is NOT a Roman Catholic Church. It is an American National Catholic Church. This Church is not in communion with Rome. Yes, they have seven sacraments and their priests wear what looks like Franciscan garb, but they do not follow the Pope or consider him the leader of their Church. If you check out their website, they are "marketing" to our young people. The picture on their website shows a man in jeans (well, a man with his head cropped out of the picture?) and behind this blue jeans clad young man is a sign that reads: “Finally, a Church with a message I can understand and people I can relate to.” Showing just the headless body, perhaps they haven't read St. Paul’s words imploring us to, “Worship God, I beg you, in a way worthy of thinking beings." (Romans 12:1-2) Unfortunately many Roman Catholics do not attend Mass regularly and many may not be discerning or savvy enough to note the distinction between these two churches. So, I ask you to help. If people ask, please give the correct information. The new Church in Island Heights is not a Roman Catholic Church and is not a substitution for our Church and the Faith as it has been handed on to us. May God bless you and keep you. Fr. Scott Quotes: I… have faith in the cross…as the revelation of the “way” or “path” of transformation, as the revelation of the depth of God’s love for us, and as the proclamation of radical grace. – Marcus J. JOSEPH’S PAGINA OCHO MENSAJE DEL PASTOR Querida Familia Parroquial, Bienvenidos y Aleluya!
