It is such a help to our parish. Our collection for the week of December 6, 2015 was $10,819.35. May God bless you for your continued support. We welcome you to make your weekly/monthly donations by enrolling in Parish Pay by visiting www.parishpay.com or calling (866) 727-4741 to set up an account. Angel Tree is an annual project of our parish. It is an opportunity to bring the love of Christ to the least fortunate of our community during the Christmas season. Angel Tree tags are located in a basket in front of the Blessed Mother. On each angel tag is a suggested age appropriate gift item for a girl or boy. Parishioners are invited to take as many Angel tags as they would like to purchase the suggested gift. We are requesting 1 item of clothing (valued at $20.00) and 1 toy (valued at $20.00). Please do not wrap the gifts. Bring your gifts in gift bags with the angel tag attached. Gifts may be left inside the church or maybe turned in at the parish office. Please return your gift to the parish office on or before Monday, December 14th. If you have any questions, please call the parish office. Once you select a tag, you become this child’s Angel! PAGE 3 UPCOMING RELIGIOUS EDUCATION EVENTS: 12/21 - 1/2: Christmas break. No classes. Retirement Fund for Religious Aging religious need your help. In the United States today, there are more than 33,000 senior Catholic sisters, brothers and religious order priests. These religious worked tirelessly in Catholic schools, hospitals, and agencies, usually for little to no pay. As a result, many religious communities lack adequate savings for retirement and eldercare. Your gift to today’s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications, nursing care and more. Please be generous. That council, Pope Francis reminds us, inaugurated a new phase in the Church’s history. The Spirit called the Church to tear down the walls that for far too long had made it a fortress, and to proclaim the gospel in a new, more accessible way. Pope Francis quotes Saint John XXIII in declaring the Church’s preference for “the medicine of mercy,” and Blessed Paul VI in proposing the Good Samaritan as our model for discipleship (Misericordiae Vultus, 4). Pope Francis adds that God’s mercy is “the beating heart of the Gospel,” and that mercy “must penetrate the heart and mind” of every disciple (MV , 12). Three times today’s Gospel asks, “What should I do?” Pope Francis would say: Imitate Jesus, who came not wielding the fiery judgment that John the Baptist had threatened, but instead imparting healing, compassion, forgiveness—mercy! —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. TERCER DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO Luke 1: 30-33 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” Table of Blessings Meal Ministry Please contact us if you know of a family caring for a terminally ill loved one or someone going thru debilitating medical treatments, who would benefit from our meal ministry to help ease their burden, if only for a simple sharing of a meal.. PAGE 5 Next Ministry Planning Meeting Thursday, December 17th at 6:30pm Attn: Spiritual Parents/Brothers & Sisters!! Please continue to pray! The babies are counting on us! Remember to pray daily for your spiritually adopted child and his/her parents. During your earthly life, this spiritually adopted child of yours is known only to God, but in the world to come, it is hoped that you will meet this child whose life was spared by your prayers and spend eternal happiness with him/her. One Month: Your spiritually adopted baby has been quite active over the past four weeks. Already, your baby is 10,000 times bigger than at conception. Your baby has developed the foundations of his/her brain, spinal cord, and nervous system by the 20th day. His/her heart began to beat on the 21st day and is pumping blood through his/her own circulatory system. The blood type can be different from the mother’s. Your baby is most vulnerable during the next month of being aborted. Pray that the Lord of Life might move the heart of his/her mother to give them the most precious gift of all… the gift of life! Please call Barbra Manriquez at (562)900-9492 or email us at: [email protected] with any questions or to be added to our email list. PAGE 8 THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT DID YOU KNOW? Safety is key even when visiting Santa Claus Visiting Santa Claus can be a grand and positive childhood experience. However, some people who seek to bring Santa to life in a child’s world are not deserving of our trust. Make sure your child knows that there are special rules for Santa and that parents or guardians must always be with the child when he or she visits Santa. One rule to consider is encouraging your child to stand next to Santa or sit on the floor between his feet rather than sitting on his lap. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Safety for Children AND Santa’s Helpers,” email: [email protected]. ¿SABIA USTED?
