FAITH DIRECT - E– GIVING
St. Rose of Lima Parish will be offering a new way of E-Giving coming soon! Faith Direct
is a company dealing only with Catholic Churches across the Country! Be Ready, there will
be informative mailings to those already on our VANCO Program. Please note that VANCO
will be ending October 1st, 2015. We will begin a campaign of “Informative Articles” in the
forth-coming Bulletins. This is just a “Heads Up!” For those wishing to begin E-Giving,
please stay tuned for more information! This is a much easier program!!!!
FLOCKNOTE
St. Rose of Lima would like to introduce you to Flocknote! WE have been (are) in the planning
stages of this new concept allowing our Ministries a way to contact members directly! Flocknote is a
communication service created by Catholics for Catholic Parishes. It serves the unique purpose of
assisting parishioners in their quest to stay up to date with their Parish’s or Ministry’s news, information and updates! Flocknote is simpler and quicker to use than email and also includes texting! We
need your help! We are in the process of uploading all the Ministry Teams, which will allow your facilitator the ability to notify you of Changes to meetings, send agenda, minutes of last meetings,
prayer requests and the like. Only ONE problem (one for now!) We need to acquire your E-mail
address! If you would fill out the form at the below and drop it in the offertory basket, we will enter you into our data
base, notify your team leader, and we should be ready to use Flocknote (hopefully) by the end of August. If you have
any questions, just call Deborah at the Parish Office. As of today 2 people have signed up!

Gospel Reading
John 6:41-51
Jesus responds to the murmurs of the crowd, who wonders what he means when he says that he came down from heaven.
Family Connection
Today's Gospel focuses our attention on our faith in Jesus' presence in the Eucharist. Jesus is the bread of
life. He gives us his Body and Blood as bread so that we may have eternal life. When we receive the Body
and Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist, our lives begin to reflect the reality that our communion with Jesus prepares in us. Our Eucharist leads us to live as people of the promise, confident that we will one day share the
fullness of life with God. As you gather as a family, talk about our hope that one day we will share eternal
life with God in heaven. This hope can transform the way we live our daily lives, calling us to be people of
hope and expectation. In today's Gospel, Jesus promises us this gift of eternal life in the Eucharist. Read
together today's Gospel, John 6:41-51. Observe that Jesus taught us that those who listen to God know that
Jesus has been sent by God for the life of the world. Jesus fulfills this promise to us through his passion,
death, and Resurrection. He gives us the gift of himself in the Eucharist, which is his Body and Blood, given
so that we may have eternal life. Conclude in prayer together asking God to increase our faith in Jesus'
presence in the Eucharist. Pray together the Act of Faith..
Making the Connection:
1.To know a few facts about a person does not necessarily mean that we know that person well. If someone
knew you only as a member of your family, what might they know about you?(all reasonable answers are accepted.) What kinds of things wouldn't they know? (Accept all reasonable answers.) Would knowing that you go
to a particular school or work at a particular job add any additional information?(Yes, some.) Would this be
enough to know you well? (Probably not.) Why not? (They haven't taken the time to get to know you.)
2. In today's Gospel, some of the people in the crowd are upset because Jesus told them that he was the bread
of life that came down from heaven. They don't believe this because they seem to think they know Jesus. Let's
listen to this Gospel to learn what they think they know about Jesus.
3. In today's Gospel, some of the people in the crowd are upset because Jesus told them that he was the bread
of life that came down from heaven. They don't believe this because they seem to think they know Jesus. Let's
listen to this Gospel to learn what they think they know about Jesus.
4. Read aloud today's Gospel, John 6:41-51.
5. What information does the crowd know about Jesus? (They know that his father is Joseph; they know his family.) Is this enough to know Jesus well? (No.) What does Jesus say a person must do to know him well? (Jesus
says that those who listen to God will know that Jesus came from God.)
6. This is important for us to understand because there are many details about Jesus' life that we don't know.
But knowing these details would not tell us what we need to know about Jesus. We learn all we need to know
about Jesus from God's Word to us, the Scripture. Scripture teaches us to have faith that Jesus is God's Son
who brings us salvation. We also have the gift that Jesus gave us in the Eucharist. We grow closer to Jesus
when we celebrate the Eucharist.
7. Conclude in prayer (together) that we will grow in our understanding and faith in Jesus through our celebration of the
Eucharist. Pray together the Act of Faith.
This Week’s Liturgy August 9, 2015
Www.sadlierreligion.com/webelieve/weeksliturgy.cfm
Reading 1 1 Kings 19:4-8
Sometimes our fears and troubles seem to be just too much for
us. We may feel that we cannot go on. The prophet Elijah felt
that way after being pursued by his enemies who wanted to kill
him. He sat down under a tree and prayed for death. But God
awakened him twice, providing food and water for his dejected
messenger. The refreshments and the knowledge of how much
God cared for him gave Elijah the strength to continue his journey to "the mountain of God." Each Sunday is our day of rest
from the activities and the difficulties of the week. We are
strengthened by the Eucharist and our knowledge of how much
God cares for each one of us. .
Discussion Questions for Reading 1
Think about a time when you felt worn out or dejected.
Perhaps you too felt like plopping down under a tree and
not bothering to get up again. Who or what helped you
to get up and continue your journey? What are some of
the ways we can serve others who need to be refreshed
or lifted up in times of trouble? Describe your ideal Sunday that would refresh and strengthen you on your faith
journey. What can you do to experience this ideal?
Reading 2 Reflection Ephesians 4:30-5:2
At our Baptism we received the new life of the Holy Spirit.
In this reading, Paul encourages those who have been baptized to avoid acting in ways that "sadden the Holy Spirit."
Cruelty and harshness of every kind should be avoided.
Christians are called instead to be kind, compassionate, and
forgiving. In that way they imitate Christ who has been
kind, compassionate, and forgiving to them.
It is not always easy to say no to cruelty and bitterness. But,
by the grace of the Holy Spirit, we have the power to follow
Jesus' example.
Discussion Questions for Reading 2
Gospel John 6:24-35 Gospel Reflection
When a teacher introduces a completely new idea, students
sometimes resist it. They may complain "I don't get it. It doesn't
make sense to me.” When Jesus began teaching the Jews that he
himself was the "bread that came down from heaven," they muttered and murmured in complaint. They thought they knew who
Jesus was. But Jesus responds by promising them that if they eat
the living bread, they will live forever. He will give his flesh for
the life of the world. In the Eucharist, we experience the truth of
Jesus' promise. We receive the living bread and know that we
shall live forever.
Pope Francis Speaks to Families
Why do you think people are sometimes tempted
to be cruel to others? What are some of the consequences of cruelty and harsh words? Think
about a time when you treated someone who was
different or unpopular with kindness. What were
the effects of your kindness? Who helps you to
be a forgiving person?
Discussion Questions for Gospel
Look back at the reading. What reasons do the murmurers
give for not accepting Jesus' teaching? What other reasons
might they have? Why do you sometimes find it hard to
accept new teachings ? How does Jesus respond to those
who are resisting his teaching? What are some of the ways
we can prepare to celebrate Eucharist so that we experience
this sacrament more fully? How can we help other Catholics who may be staying away from Mass for any reason?

Three Magic Words for Married Life
Rules for the Journey: “May I?”
Married life is such a beautiful thing, and we must
treasure it always, treasure the children…. There are
three words that always need to be said, three words
that need to be said at home: may I, thank you, and
sorry. The three magic words. May I, so as not to be
intrusive in the life of the spouses. May I, but how
does it seem to you? May I, please allow me. Thank
you, to thank one’s spouse: thank you for what you
did for me, thank you for this. That beauty of giving
thanks! And since we all make mistakes, the other
word, which is a bit hard to say but which needs to be
said: sorry. Please, thank you, and sorry. With these
three words, with the prayer of the husband for the
wife and vice versa, by always making peace before
the day comes to an end, marriage will go forward.
The three magic words, prayer, and always making
peace.
Can I, may I? This is the polite request to enter the life of
another with respect and care. One should learn how to
ask: “may I do this?” “Would you like for us to do this?”
“Should we take up this initiative, to educate our children
in this way?” “Do you want to go out tonight?” In short, to
ask permission means to know how to enter with courtesy
into the lives of others… It’s not easy, not easy at all.
Sometimes, however, manners are used in a heavy way,
like hiking boots! True love does not impose itself harshly
and aggressively. In the Fioretti (Little Flowers) of St.
Francis, we find this expression: “For know, dear brother,
that courtesy is one of the attributes of God, for courtesy
is the sister of charity, it extinguish the hatred and kindle
the love” (chapter 37). Yes, courtesy kindles love. And
today in our families, in our world, which is frequently
violent and arrogant, there is so much need for courtesy.
And this can begin at home.
