SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT 
December 6, 2015
PUT ON JOY
Today, Baruch speaks of the splendor that
lies ahead for the city of Jerusalem and for all of
us, regardless of where home is for us. Throw off
strife, he tells us, and put on joy. Like a favorite
old sweatshirt, joy fits, and how warm it keeps
us, even when the winds blow cold.
Paul knows of this joy as he pens his letter to
the Philippians, praying that they may grow in
their ability to discern what is righteous and
good. And Luke speaks to us of John, who was
foretold by Isaiah and who sings a similar
song—“Prepare the way of the Lord,” for
salvation is at hand.
A man ahead of his time, Baruch spent his
days joyfully awaiting a distant glory. On this
Second Sunday of Advent, Paul and John know
that this glory is upon us.

Advent Giving Trees, 2015
Dear Parishioner:
Once again, we will continue our tradition of the Advent Giving Trees to which you have cooperated so very
generously in past years. This will begin on the first weekend of Advent, November 28th/29th, 2015.
Procedure
Two large Christmas trees will be placed before each of our side altars. They will be decorated with paper
“angel” ornaments containing gift suggestions about a needy child or adult. Kindly take one of these
ornaments and read the information on it regarding an individual in need. Purchase a new gift for that person.
Holiday wrap your gift with the ornament attached to it. Please place your gift under one of the trees no later
than Sunday, December 13th, 2015. We will sort your gifts on Monday evening, December 14th, and arrange
for them to be delivered to the recipients in time for Christmas.
This Advent Giving Tree program provides a very special way of sharing our blessings with those less
fortunate. Please be assured that all your gifts will be for very worthy and reputable individuals and agencies.
In recent years, they have acknowledged with much gratitude the remarkable goodness of the people of
Our Lady of Angels.
Thank you for your great kindness in response to this and to all the charitable appeals made of you.
FOR YOUR ADDED INFORMATION:
This year your gifts will be for the following helping causes:
1. Our Lady of Presentation (marked OLP on ornament). Father Edward Mason is the pastor and is very grateful for
any gifts and toys to distribute for the celebration of Christmas and Three Kings. He has indicated that clothing, toys,
and gift certificates to such stores as “Old Navy” “Target” and “Payless Shoes” would be valued deeply.
2. Our Lady of Angels Church (marked OLA on ornament) helps local poor children in our neighborhood to have a
happy Christmas. Clothing, educational toys and gift certificates to “Old Navy” will be much-appreciated.
3. Catholic Charities (marked CC on ornament) which is founded in Catholic social teaching, is to reach out to and
provide assistance to those in need – the poor, sick, young, aged, and disabled. Items such as clothing and diapers for
babies, clothing items for men and women, gift certificates to “Old Navy” are needed and will be greatly appreciated.
4. St. Joseph Senior Housing (marked SJ on ornament). This Catholic Charities sponsored organization employs case
workers who provide Comprehensive medical assistance for senior citizens. All suitable gifts will be appreciated.
Kindly note: After the distribution of your very thoughtful gifts to the above mentioned charities, we often find
we have a surplus of them. Immediately after Christmas, these are distributed to needy families in
and around our parish community.
