What is Spiritual Direction?
Sometimes we need a caring presence to walk with
us on our spiritual journey and help us reflect on our
relationship with God. This can bring much needed
clarity and spiritual growth. Spiritual Direction is, in
reality, nothing more than a way of leading us to see and obey
the real Director—the Holy Spirit hidden in the depths of our
soul.

Is Christ Your King?
[Jesus] is said to reign ‘in the hearts of
men,’ both by reason of the keenness of
His intellect and the extent of His
knowledge, and also because He is the
very truth.” [PopePius XI] goes on to
provide other aspects of the Lord that
make him a King, citing His inspiration,
charity, mercy, kindness, and love. ...The
heavenly kingdom, as exemplified by
Jesus, is based on love, sacrifice,
humility, and righteousness. As Advent
begins next week, and as we make our
own preparations for Jesus’ reign, we
need to keep those traits close to our
heart, because those are the attributes of
a steward, one who strives to serve God
and others.

From the Diary of St. Faustina
Perfection
Let souls who are striving for perfection particularly adore
My mercy, because the abundance of graces which I grant
them flows from My mercy. I desire that these souls
distinguish themselves by boundless trust in My mercy. I
myself will attend to the sanctification of such souls… the more a soul
trusts, the more it will receive. (Diary #1578)
For more information on the Divine Mercy Devotions,
please contact Maria Beck at 832-618-0726.
Mass intentions are available on a first come first served basis. Come to
the office and complete a request form at least two weeks in advance. A
nominal $5 donation is requested for the priest who says the Mass. Masses
are subject to change and if cancelled, you will be asked to reschedule your
Mass. Intentions are most often for the deceased, but can also be for the
living, i.e. birthday blessings, anniversaries, or in thanksgiving. Questions?

A dark plague – what's forcing 60 million
people from their homes?
(CNA/EWTN News)
New York City, N.Y., Nov 5, 2015.- Racism and religious intolerance are
two of the driving forces behind the growing migrant crisis in Europe and
the Middle East, a representative to the Holy See warned the United
Nations on Tuesday.
“In many of the countries of origin of migrants and refugees, the most
heinous crimes against religious freedom have been and continue to be
committed,” Archbishop Bernardito Auza said, citing problematic forced
conversions, executions, and the seizure of taxes and property of those
who hold to their religious beliefs. “Religious and ethnic minorities are
disproportionately affected by these abuses perpetrated by violent nonstate actors who are clearly intent on destroying religious, cultural and
ethnic diversities,” the archbishop continued. He then called on the U.N.
and the international community to work diligently to counter “violent nonstate actors who wantonly violate fundamental human rights.”
There are more than 60 million refugees, asylum-seekers and internally
displaced persons in the world today; nearly the equivalent of Italy’s
population. And that number is only expected to grow, Archbishop Auza
warned. He said the number of persons forced from their homes by conflict
and discrimination each day has nearly quadrupled since 2010.
While recognizing the legal and social complexities of migration, Archbishop
Auza urged the United Nations to prioritize the human rights of migrants
and refugees. “Over and above all other considerations…it is necessary
always…to recognize the migrant as a fellow human being, endowed with
the same human dignity and rights as we are,” he said. “This is especially
true when we deal with persons who were forced to migrate against their
will, like the refugees, the persecuted for religious or ethnic reasons, and
those who are being trafficked for sexual exploitation, slave labor and other
forms of abuse.”
Pope Francis made a similar call for a just and humane response to
migration during his historic address to a joint session of US Congress in
September. The Pope urged lawmakers to not be shocked by the size of
the migrant crisis, but instead “view them as persons, seeing their faces
and listening to their stories, trying to respond as best we can to their
situation.”

Angel Tree
Program!
Nov. 28th
& 29th
This is our annual way of providing
gifts for low income children here
in the Katy area. Pick an Angel
Tag off of our Christmas tree in
the Narthex next Sunday & buy a
gift appropriate for the child
described on the tag, then return
your wrapped gifts, with the tag
attached, on December 13th.
It is IMPORTANT to complete
the form attached to each angel
tag and give that information to a
SVDP volunteer before you leave.
Archbishop Auza echoed the Pope, warning the UN of the temptation to
turn inward and regard migrants and refugees as outsiders.
“We must resist the tendency to recoil at the enormity and complexity of
the crisis,” he said. “We must fight the temptation to turn inward, labeling
the “other” as a threat to our way of life. “Racial discrimination, xenophobia
and intolerance have no place in a world committed to peace, genuine
pluralism and the common good of all humanity,” the archbishop said.
“(They) are a serious affront to human dignity and are inexcusable
impediments to building an international community committed to the
promotion of human rights.”
Reread the first sentence above! “Racism and religious intolerance are
two of the driving forces behind the growing migrant crisis in Europe and
the Middle East.” Think about racism and religious intolerance in the
United States today! What or who is driving this situation here? What
must we do to end this destructive and disgraceful wave overtaking the
U.S.? Think about it.

(“Praise Be to You: On Care for Our Common Home”
by Pope Francis - May 24, 2015)
CHAPTER ONE
IV. DECLINE IN THE QUALITY OF HUMAN LIFE AND THE
BREAKDOWN OF SOCIETY
47. When media and the digital world become omnipresent, their influence
can stop people from living wisely, thinking deeply, and loving generously.
The great sages of the past risk not being heard amid the noise and
distractions of information overload. True wisdom is not acquired by a mere
accumulation of data that leads to a sort of mental pollution. Real
relationships with others now tend to be replaced by a type of contrived
emotion more to do with devices than with other people and with nature.
We should be concerned that, alongside the exciting possibilities offered by
these media, a deep dissatisfaction with interpersonal relations, or a harmful
sense of isolation, can also arise.
V. GLOBAL INEQUALITY
48. The human and the natural environments deteriorate together. The
deterioration of the environment and society affects the most vulnerable on
the planet. The gravest effects of all attacks on the environment are
suffered by the poorest. The impact of present imbalances is also seen in
the premature deaths of many of the poor.
49. Generally speaking, there is little in the way of a clear awareness of
problems that especially affect the excluded. Yet they are the majority of the
planet’s population. It seems that their problems are brought up as
afterthoughts in major discussions, added almost out of duty. Many
professionals, opinion makers, centers of power, being located in affluent
urban areas, are far removed from the poor, with little direct contact with
their problems. They live and reason from comfortable positions. This lack
of physical encounter leads to a numbing of conscience and to the
tendentious analyses that neglects reality. At times this attitude exists side
by side with a “green” rhetoric. A true ecological approach always becomes
a social approach so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the
poor.
50. Instead of resolving the problems of the poor, some can only propose a
reduction in the birth rate. Developing countries face forms of international
pressure that makes economic assistance contingent on certain policies of
“reproductive health.” It must be recognized that demographic growth is
fully compatible with an integral and share development. To blame
population growth instead of extreme and selective consumerism is one way
of refusing to face the issues. It is an attempt to legitimize the present
model of distribution. We know that approximately a third of all food
produced is discarded. Whenever food is thrown out, it is as if it were stolen
from the table of the poor. Still, attention needs to be paid to imbalances in
population density on both national and global levels.

We Gather Together for Eucharist
on Thanksgiving Day
All are invited and encouraged to join in the
celebration of the Eucharist on Thanksgiving Day
Fr. Wayne Wilkerson by attending Mass at 9:00 am, Thursday,
November 26th, and join our “Table of Plenty”.
Pastor
We will offer only one mass on Thanksgiving Day. It is my hope and
prayer that we will come together as one, regardless of race or language
to give thanks to God for the many blessings that we have received
individually and collectively as a parish family. Sometimes we segregate
ourselves by language and deny the opportunity to gather together as
members of the Christian community. In a real sense, we may not know
‘who’ our brothers and sisters at St. Bart’s are. Thanksgiving affords us a
unique and wonder-ful opportunity to celebrate our Catholic faith in unity,
as we are blessed to live in a great nation of immigrants—diverse peoples
who literally span the globe. I am eager to share in this national holiday
with you, giving thanks for our many blessings and expectant for the
blessings that are yet to come.
Furthermore, I wish to invite all parishioners of St. Bartholomew Parish to
join me in a special tradition. Please bring a covered dish of food from
your table to the church with you on Thanksgiving Day. In the past
parishioners have brought, turkey, dressing, vegetables, salads, rolls,
cakes and pies (Fr. Wayne loves pies). We will have tables available in
the church for you to place your food and the food that you bring will be
blessed. Following Mass you may take the food home to share with your
family and friends—this is one way to truly taste the blessings that
Almighty God has seen fit to bestow on each of us.
May God Bless You!
