Estamos ya en el tercer domingo de Adviento.
Hoy en la liturgia resuena la invitación del
apóstol san Pablo: "Estad siempre alegres en el
Señor… El Señor está cerca".
We have now reached the Third Sunday of Advent. Today in the liturgy the Apostle Paul’s
invitation rings out: “Rejoice in the Lord always;
again I will say, Rejoice.... The Lord is at
hand!” (Phil 4: 4-5).
La Iglesia, nos acompaña hacia la santa Navidad, y nos ayuda a redescubrir el sentido y el
gusto de la alegría cristiana, tan distinta de la
del mundo. Me alegra saber que en las familias se conserva la costumbre de montar un
Belén.

Feast Day: December 15
Paula Frances Mary di Rosa
was born on November 6, 1813,
at Brescia, Italy. Educated by
the Visitandine nuns, she left
school at the age of seventeen
to manage her widowed father's
household. Mary was not interested in marriage since she was
attracted to the convent. She
took care of the spiritual needs
of young girls working in her
father's mills, and she volunteered to work in the Brescia
hospital during the 1836 cholera epidemic. Later, she founded a home for girls and a school
for deaf mutes.
In 1840, her spiritual director
made her Superior of a group of
religious who cared for the sick.
She took the religious name
Mary Crucifixa because of her
devotion to the Crucified
Christ. Called the Handmaids
of Charity of Brescia, her group
was approved by the bishop of
Brescia in 1843, and Papal approval was granted in 1850.
Mary died at Brescia in 1855
and was canonized by Pope Pius XII in 1954.

Hay que tratar de vivir en la realidad de cada
día lo que el belén representa, es decir, el
amor de Cristo, su humildad, su pobreza. Es lo
que hizo San Francisco: representó en vivo la
escena de la Natividad, para poderla contemplar y adorar, pero sobre todo para saber poner
mejor en práctica el mensaje del Hijo de Dios,
que por amor a nosotros se despojó de todo y
se hizo niño pequeño.
El belén es una escuela de vida, donde podemos aprender el secreto de la verdadera alegría,
que no consiste en tener muchas cosas, sino en
sentirse amados por el Señor, en hacerse don
para los demás y en quererse unos a otros.
Contemplemos el belén: la Virgen y san José
no parecen una familia muy afortunada; han
tenido su primer hijo en medio de grandes
dificultades; sin embargo, están llenos de profunda alegría, porque se aman, se ayudan y
sobre todo están seguros de que en su historia
está la obra Dios, que se ha hecho presente en
el niño Jesús.
¿Y los pastores? ¿Qué motivo tienen para
alegrarse? Ciertamente el recién nacido no
cambiará su condición de pobreza y de marginación. Pero la fe les ayuda a reconocer en el
"niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un
pesebre", el "signo" del cumplimiento de las
promesas de Dios para todos los hombres "a
quienes él ama" ¡también para ellos, consiste
la verdadera alegría: es sentir el misterio del
amor de Dios, que visita y colma nuestra existencia personal.
While Mother Church accompanies us towards
Holy Christmas she helps us rediscover the
meaning and taste of Christian joy, so different
from that of the world. It gives me great joy to
know that the custom of creating a crib scene has

loving one another.
Let us look at the crib. Our Lady and St Joseph
do not seem to be a very fortunate family; their
first child was born in the midst of great hardship; yet they are full of deep joy, because they
love each other, they help each other and, especially, they are certain that God, who made himself present in the little Jesus, is at work in their
story.
And the shepherds? What did they have to rejoice about? That Newborn Infant was not to
change their condition of poverty and marginalization. But faith helped them recognize the
“babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in
a manger” as a “sign” of the fulfillment of God’s
promises for all human beings, “with whom he is
pleased” (Lk 2:12, 14).
Para alegrarnos, no sólo necesitamos cosas,
sino también amor y verdad: necesitamos al
Dios cercano que calienta nuestro corazón y
responde a nuestros anhelos más profundos.
Este Dios se ha manifestado en Jesús, nacido
de la Virgen María. Por eso el Niño, que ponemos en el portal o en la cueva, es el centro de
todo, es el corazón del mundo.
Acojamos como la Virgen María, al Niño,
fuente de la verdadera alegría.
In order to rejoice we do not need things alone,
but love and truth: we need a close God who
warms our hearts and responds to our deepest
expectations. This God is manifested in Jesus,
born of the Virgin Mary. Therefore that
“Bambinello” which we place in a stable or a
grotto is the center of all things, the heart of the
world. Let us pray that every person, like the
Virgin Mary, may accept as the center of his or
her life the God who made himself a Child, the
source of true joy.
