LAST WEEKEND’S ATTENDANCE - 9/27/2015 Adults: 762…...…. Children: 287…...……/ Total…..1,049 2 “From the Desk of Father Jonathan” Did you have the same feeling I had when Pope Francis' plane left the United States en route to the Vatican? I was sad....but also very grateful. I was sad to see him leave, but so grateful to him, and to God, for what Francis left us. He set our hearts on fire. He gave us hope. He showed us how to love. The next feeling--once the plane was in the air--was one of excitement. "Jonathan", I thought. "now you get to go back to the parish and neighborhood and try to live out what Pope Francis has invited you to do." I know Fr. Urbano, Fr. Livinus, and our beloved Sisters Edna, Martina, and Jeasmin feel the same way. I hope you are equally as excited to carry out this mission with us as a parish family. On a very practical note, by now you have seen the scaffolding that is encircling our church. Soon we will begin the arduous project of repointing the brick, scraping the windows, fixing the bell towers and roof, and lighting up the exterior. With God's help we will make sure Our Lady of Mt. Carmel is in great shape for generations to come. But as we do this work, let's not forget...our buildings mean nothing if we aren't growing our ministry. Let’s do both at the same time. October 4, 2015 CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL 3 REFLECTING ON GOD’S WORD Sunday Gospel: Mark 10: 2-16 RIFLESSIONE SULLA PAROLA DI DIO Vangelo della Domenica : Marco 10: 2-16 The basis of Jewish law says Jesus, is that all human Nel contesto della manifestazione del Figlio dell’uomo beings are created equal in the image of God. The disciples attempt to keep some children and their parents from disturbing Jesus, probably thinking that women and children were not important enough to disturb the Master! Jesus is indignant. Gathering the children, he says self-important people should imitate them. Young children usually accept the rules of life without quibbling over details. They accept the love of parents and trust that rules are for their well-being, even if they do not fully understand them. A loving Father offers us the gift of faith. Jesus is asking us to be child-like, accepting this gift with simplicity and trust. Discussing faith is fine, but we cannot stop there. Since we do not earn faith—it is freely given to us—we are called to express this faith in how we live our lives. We are equal in God’s sight and equally responsible to live up to our calling. Living Stewardship Now We have an equal responsibility to serve, yet in the average parish 20 percent of the parishioners do 80 percent of the work and the giving. What can you do, beginning today, to change that percentage? A Prayer for our new Pastor ~ Father Jonathan ~ May the Good Shepherd be your guide in the months and years ahead as you lead His people and may Our Lady of Mt. Carmel keep you in Her tender care. God bless you! Dio ti benedica! ¡Dios te bendiga! ~Your Mt. Carmel Parish Family~ BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS IN HONOR OF SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 2:45pm Parking Lot of the Parish (Belmont Avenue) ~ Please have your pet on a leash or in a cage ~ e dopo il secondo annuncio della passione, Marco espone - come complemento catechetico l’insegnamento sulla indissolubilità del matrimonio, e i comportamenti richiesti per fare parte del regno di Dio. Gesù cambia scena (Mc 10,1): va in Giudea. Muchas gracias.
