Rejoice always I say
again rejoice, says Paul
in our second reading
to the Philippians. Thus today we have Gaudete or
“rejoice” Sunday on our Advent journey.
John the Baptist is being asked by various groups
of people “What should we do?” He has an answer
for each group depending on who they are: first, the
crowds are told to share their clothing and food; second tax collectors told to be honest; third, soldiers
too are told to be honest and “satisfied with your
wages.” What might John the Baptist say to us?
John also clears up for the people his identity. He
is clear with the people that “one mightier than I is
coming. I am not worth to loosen the thongs of his
sandals.” Do we find ourselves with such humility as
we prepare for Christmas?
John then exhorts the people by preaching the
“good news” to them. We too are called to preach the
Gospel or Good News at all times, not just at Christmas. As we have less than two weeks before the celebration of the birth of our savior let us rejoice that
we can in faith, hope and love, persevere in the
preaching the Good News of the child Jesus!
—————————————————————Laudato Si
Some countries are gradually making significant progress, developing more effective controls and working to
combat corruption. People may well have a growing ecological sensitivity but it has not succeeded in changing
their harmful habits of consumption which, rather than
decreasing, appear to be growing all the more. A simple
example is the increasing use and power of airconditioning. The markets, which immediately benefit
from sales, stimulate ever greater demand. An outsider
looking at our world would be amazed at such behavior,
which at times appears self-destructive.
In the meantime, economic powers continue to justify
the current global system where priority tends to be given
to speculation and the pursuit of financial gain, which fail
to take the context into account, let alone the effects on
human dignity and the natural environment. Here we see
how environmental deterioration and human and ethical
degradation are closely linked. Many people will deny
doing anything wrong because distractions constantly dull
our consciousness of just how limited and finite our world
really is. As a result, “whatever is fragile, like the environment, is defenseless before the interests of a deified
market, which become the only rule”.

Alégrense siempre en el
Del Escritorio
Señor, se lo repito:
Del Párroco
alégrense, dice San Pablo
a los filipenses y a
nosotros hoy.
Bautista, “Que debemos hacer?”

Laudato Si

Thank You For Your Support!
Aging religious need your help. In the
United States today, there are more
than 33,000 senior Catholic sisters,
brothers, and religious order priests.
These religious worked tirelessly in
Catholic schools, hospitals, and agencies, usually for little to no pay. As a
result, many religious communities lack adequate savings for
retirement and eldercare. Your gift to today’s collection for the
Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications,
nursing care, and more.
Please be generous.
