TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Es hoy en día "Domingo de Ramos" o "Domingo de Pasión"? Aunque ahora conocido oficialmente como el
Domingo de Ramos de la Pasión del Señor, la confusión es comprensible, ya que antes de la reforma de 1969
del calendario sendos domingos llevaba estos títulos. Domingo de Pasión fue una semana antes del Domingo
de Ramos. Para añadir a la confusión, los relatos evangélicos de la Pasión del Señor, no se leyeron en Domingo de Ramos, pero el Domingo de Ramos! El Domingo de Pasión, la cruz y estatuas fueron velados en cortinas
de color púrpura completos. El órgano se había quedado en silencio al comienzo de la Cuaresma, y ahora las
campanas del santuario fueron reemplazados por tablillas de madera. El introito (canto de apertura) para la
antigua Misa del Domingo de Pasión insinúa una razón para la reforma: "Hazme justicia, oh Dios, y pelear mi
pelea contra un pueblo sin fe" (Salmo 42). Esta liturgia estaba cargada de referencias a la "infidelidad" de los
Judios, un tema que dio origen a la predicación inflamatorio y, en algunos lugares, los ataques contra las personas y los bienes del pueblo judío. Esto no se sostiene como un "tesoro" de ningún tipo en nuestra tradición.
Nuestra auténtica tradición, más bien, es la capacidad de reflexionar y arrepentirse y buscar la reconciliación
con los Judios, nuestros hermanos y hermanas en el amor y servicio de Dios.

Yo no habría sido cobarde
Hoy y el viernes escucharemos el relato de la Pasión. Pensemos que estos relatos y el de la resurrección fueron el primer
núcleo de la predicación de los apóstoles, así celebraremos mejor estos días de gracia. Cuando en estos días participamos
en las celebraciones, se despiertan sentimientos que pueden ser parte de nuestra oración para no caer en las fantasías.
Pueden embargarnos la angustia, la compasión o la indignación por una muerte tan injusta. Si toda muerte, incluso la de
un criminal, es injusta, más aún la de un inocente. Puede surgir la tentación de decir: ―yo no lo habría hecho‖, o ―yo no
me habría comportado como ellos‖.
Tampoco es simpática la actitud de Pedro y los apóstoles, tan valientes con las palabras y tan cobardes con los hechos. En
ese momento, Poncio Pilato no imaginaba que sería juzgado por lavarse las manos, ni Herodes por su ambición. Los
apóstoles pensaron que era lo único que podían hacer para salvar la vida. El miedo había confundido su razón y hecho
añicos sus sentimientos. Por no hacerse cargo de la vida de un hombre, Poncio Pilato y Herodes renunciaron a la responsabilidad de gobernar. La solemne promesa de Pedro de ir a la cárcel, y hasta morir por Jesús, se derrumbó frente a
la pregunta de una empleada.
Todos ellos traicionaron a Jesús, pero hubo un gran contraste entre quienes refexionaron sobre el mal cometido y los que
ni se dieron cuenta de la injusticia consumada. A Pedro le bastó con una mirada de Jesús para recordar todas sus
palabras y comenzar a llorar su pecado.
Cuando alguien sufre, somos nosotros los que ocupamos el lugar de Poncio Pilato, de Herodes y de todos aquellos que lo
traicionaron. No hay una razón para pensar que nosotros no lo habríamos hecho.

COMO VIVIR LA SEMANA SANTA...
Hoy entramos en la Semana Santa. En ella tenemos la oportunidad de revivir intensamente la dolorosa Pasión y Resurrección de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Son días llenos
de gracias espirituales en los que podemos abrirnos a la contemplación del amor infinito
de Dios, manifestado en la cruz de Cristo. Es una semana para volver a suscitar el deseo
de adherirnos a Cristo y seguirlo generosamente. Hagamos el propósito de aprovecharla
al máximo, dedicando tiempo a la contemplación, a la lectura del evangelio, acudamos al
sacramento de la confesión, a la adoración eucarística, etc. No dejemos pasar ni un día
sin dedicar un tiempo exclusivo a la oración. Digámosle a Jesús que queremos reconocerlo como rey y aprender su mismo estilo de amor, de servicio, que estamos dispuestos a
abrazar y adorar su cruz, a hacerla nuestra y aceptarla. Pidamos la gracia de seguirlo
fielmente y dejar que esta semana marque un cambio interior en nuestra existencia.
Miremos mucho a ese Dios que sufre por nosotros, que padece personalmente con nosotros. Demos a cada
instante un valor redentor.
Palm Sunday
Palm Sunday is the sixth and last Sunday of Lent and the beginning of Holy Week. The
Sunday before Easter is known as Palm Sunday. It celebrates Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem
for the Jewish festival of Passover. Great crowds of people lined the streets waving palm
branches to welcome him. The people were very excited. They shouted 'Hosanna!' which
means 'Save us now!'

Is today "Palm Sunday" or "Passion Sunday"? Though
now known officially as Palm Sunday of the Passion of
the Lord, confusion is understandable, since before
the 1969 reform of the calendar two separate Sundays
bore these titles. Passion Sunday was a week before
Palm Sunday. To add to the confusion, the Gospel accounts of the Passion of the Lord were not read on
Passion Sunday, but on Palm Sunday! On Passion
Sunday, the cross and statues were veiled in full purple drapes. The organ had fallen silent at the beginning of Lent, and now the sanctuary bells were replaced by wooden clappers. The introit (opening
chant) for the old Mass of Passion Sunday hints at a
reason for reform: "Do me justice, O God, and fight
my fight against a faithless people" (Psalm 42). This
liturgy was laden with references to the "infidelity" of
the Jews, a theme that gave rise to inflammatory
preaching and, in some places, attacks against the persons and property of the Jewish people. This does not
stand as a "treasure" of any sort in our tradition. Our
authentic tradition, rather, is the ability to reflect and
repent and to seek reconciliation with the Jews, our
brothers and sisters in the love and service of God.

church parking lot to leave your child; there will be no parking
alongside 1st Street due to transport traffic. You will need to
cross your child to class. Please give them a drink and a light
snack before coming to class. Send them to the bathroom so that
the class is not disrupted. Mass will be celebrated occasionally
and we invite you to come with your child on those days.
It is an obligation of all, not just Christians, to care for the weak and sick members of our community. Family members,
neighbors and friends who have sick/
weak or home bound persons are encouraged to call the parish office during office
hours or the priests' residence in cases of
emergency for visitation.

Los gobernantes recorrían sus dominios escoltados por soldados y montados en una briosa cabalgadura.
Jesús entra a Jerusalén humildemente sobre un asno y rodeado de discípulos. También lo sigue la gente, que
sale a recibirlo con flores y palmas, alfombrando el camino con sus mantos y bendiciendo a Dios por haberlo
enviado… Al mismo tiempo, otros tantos observan desde sus balcones y le reprochan permitir esa demostración pública.
Ahora proclaman: ¡Bendito el que viene en nombre del Señor!, pero en poco días, instigados por los jefes judíos, muchos gritarán a Pilato: ¡Crucifícalo, crucifícalo! Esta es la dura realidad de nuestra incoherente condición humana. Jesús da a su realeza y supremacía un rostro de pacífca humildad, obediente al Padre. Es más,
entrega hasta su vida con tal de rescatarnos. Y Jesús se confía plenamente a su voluntad: ¡Padre, que se haga
la tuya y no la mía!, en tus manos me encomiendo. Esto es para meditarlo a fondo, sin quedarnos solo en el
ramo bendito, ¿no?
