OCTOBER, the Month of the Holy Rosary - we are reminded of
the importance of uniting our prayers with the Mother of God
and conforming ourselves to Christ as revealed in the mysteries
of His life. We grow in our appreciation of Christ through
meditating on these mysteries. We do, however, need to be
careful that our prayer does not become wordy and
mechanical. Pope Paul VI said “Without contemplation, the
Rosary is a body without a soul.”
Prayer to the Holy Family for the Synod of Bishops:
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of
true love; to you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be
places of communion and prayer, authentic schools of the
Gospel and small domestic Churches. Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again experience violence, rejection and
division: may all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready
comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, may the
approaching Synod of Bishops make us once more mindful of
the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in
God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, graciously hear our prayer.
Amen.
Papal representatives in the Middle East gather in the Vatican
- The papal representatives in the Middle East are meeting in
the Vatican from 2 to 4 October, at the Holy Father's behest, to
discuss the presence of Christians in the region, due to the
grave situation that has prevailed in recent months. With
heartfelt words the Holy Father demonstrated his concern
regarding the situations of conflict currently in progress in
many areas, and for the phenomenon of terrorism, which holds
human lives to have no value. The Pontiff also mentioned the
problem of arms trafficking that is the basis of many problems,
as well as the humanitarian drama experienced by many
people forced to leave their countries. Cardinal Secretary of
State Pietro Parolin illustrated the importance and aim of the
meeting. Cardinal Sandri, prefect of the Congregation for the
Oriental Churches, offered a complete report on the situation
experienced by Christians in the Middle East, presenting
different aspects of the question and opening up dialogue with
the participants. Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, president of the
Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, will speak on
religious dialogue with Islam, and the challenges faced by
Christians in the Middle East.
Charity in truth is the basis for peace - Pope Francis on
Thursday (10/2) met with participants of the Plenary assembly
of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. In his address,
the Holy Father noted the Plenary assembly coincides with the
fifth anniversary of Benedict XVI’s encyclical Caritas in veritate,
which Pope Francis called “a foundational document for the
evangelization of the social sphere.” Referring to his own
encyclical, Evangelii gaudium, Pope Francis pointed out “three
basic instruments for the social inclusion of those most in
need: education, access to health care, and work for all.” The
Holy Father said “it is necessary to keep alive concern for the
poor and social justice,” which must involve the sharing of the
riches that are produced and “the universalization of free
markets in the service of families. The principles of Caritas in
veritate, the Pope said, are extremely relevant today: “A truthfilled love is,” he said, “is the basis on which to build the peace
that today is especially desired and necessary for the good of
all.”
Pope to the members of the United Bible Societies:
“Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ” - “Yours is the
fruit of a patient, careful, fraternal, competent and, above all,
faithful work. If you do not believe, you do not understand; if
you do not believe, you cannot stand firm”, said the Holy
Father to the members of the United Bible Societies, whom he
received this morning in the Consistory Hall for the
presentation of the Italian language Bible, “Parola del Signore –
La Bibbia Interconfessionale in lingua corrente” (“The Word of
the Lord – The Interconfessional Bible in current language”). “I
hope that this text, which is presented with the blessing of the
Italian Episcopal Conference and the Federation of Evangelical
Churches in Italy, will encourage all Italian-speaking Christians
to meditate on, life, bear witness to and celebrate God's
message”. “We must make every effort so that each believer
may read God’s Word, because as Saint Jerome says,
'ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ'”. The Pope
offered his heartfelt thanks to those present for their valuable
work, encouraging them to “continue on the journey you have
undertaken, so as to allow for the better and deeper
comprehension of the Word of the living God”.

the school's emergency procedures. Emergency plans and
phone numbers are usually included in school handbooks and
posted in classrooms. Taking a few extra minutes to familiarize
yourself and your child with emergency information can give
him the confidence he needs to act quickly in emergency
situations.
