LETTER FROM
THE
PASTOR
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
This week’s readings and Gospel help us to close out
our New Year’s Message Series with our ultimate
message…God is greater than everything…especially
our worries. Jesus warns us that trouble will come our
way in life. He is here to free us from oppression. As
he himself quotes from the prophet Isaiah; “He has
sent me to proclaim
liberty to captives and
recovery of sight to the
blind, to let the oppressed
go free, and to proclaim a
year acceptable to the
Lord.”
I hope and pray that this series has been some help to
you in your spiritual journey. May this Jubilee Year
of Mercy be that “year acceptable to the Lord” for all
of us.
Espero y pido a Dios que esta serie de mensajes haya sido
de mucha ayuda para ustedes y para su vida espiritual.
Que este año del Jubileo de la Misericordia sea "el año de
la gracia del Señor" para con todos nosotros.

P.S. Thank you to the prayer “TEAM” who

all the Masses this weekend.
In gratitude for God’s gifts of time and talent to all of us, we
gratefully acknowledge and salute:

Mike has faithfully been involved with CommunityFest
handling electricity needs for over 30 years! In addition, he
has also served as a Chili Cook-Off Disciple Volunteer.
With deep gratitude, we thank you, Mike!

Cristo. !Gracias por dar los primeros frutos y

Thank you for your financial contributions for 2015. We
will be sending out your donation information letters in the
mail this week. These may be used when preparing your
taxes.
Good News is for Sharing!
We have some good news to share! Thanks to your incredible generosity and sacrifices
throughout the past year, we have met all the conditions of the 2015 Challenge Grant (first
announced about 15 months ago) and have actually received and deposited the $100,000
grant. Every person and every gift made a difference in making this possible, no matter
how large or small – because we know they were all sacrificial gifts relative to the personal
situation of each family.
Although we never lost hope or stopped praying, we witnessed how the good people of
our parish, once again, came together and made remarkable personal sacrifices for our beloved parish of St. Mary Magdalen.
Once again, we thank all of you a hundred-fold, including the parishioner family who
anonymously donated the $100,000 grant. Together, we are doing something beautiful
for God. God Bless you all -- both today and throughout 2016!

Catholic Schools Week Kick-Off:
Shrimp Dinner & Family Fun Night!
Save the date for our annual kick-off to Catholic Schools Week. This week is a wonderful time to come together as a
parish and school community to celebrate the blessings of Catholic education. Join in for a night of family fun and
great food on Saturday, January 30 from 6 to 9pm. An “all you can eat” SHRIMP DINNER is available along with
PIZZA for those who aren’t fish lovers. There will be plenty of games and activities for the children. All of this takes
place in the school cafeteria and in the grassy area outside. More information to come!
What is Catholic Schools Week?
National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education
in the United States. This year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: Communities of
Faith, Knowledge and Service.” Through events such as Masses, open houses,
and various activities, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to
young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our
nation. St. Mary Magdalen will be celebrating Catholic Schools Week as well!
Don’t miss out on our Open House on February 1 and 2! Below you can find
just a few stats on what Catholic Schools provide to our nation, communities,
and children!
