#8 Practice the Pay-It-Forward rule– Remember
the movie, Pay It Forward? You do a good deed to
a person, and this person in turn, passes it on to
another, and therefore spreads and gets passed
on to everyone. Doing this will not only attract and
cultivate positivity in your life, this will also help
cultivate your relationships and strengthen bonds
with the people around you.

BACK WITH BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES
I’m back, my dear Church! For two weeks, I have
journeyed through the shrines of Portugal, Spain
and France, and did a short excursion to Milan and
Rome. I am back with amazing memories and
new experiences that will refill my spiritual tank. I
also have gained some good experiences that I
can share in my future homilies and presentations. It was
awe-inspiring that last week, I celebrated mass at Saint Peter’s Basilica with my mother, Michael Groth, and another
seminarian, James Guarascio. This weekend, I am back in
Kankakee to celebrate masses with you. To top it all off, I
was able to share the experience with my mother, whose
first trip to Europe allowed her to see some lifelong dream
destinations, especially in Fatima, Lourdes and Rome.
I have prayed for you, many times, dear church. I spent a
total of 4 ½ hours praying the petitions that were sent on this
pilgrimage, especially at the shrine of Fatima and Lourdes.
All the petitions were offered at every mass, until they were
eventually left by the grotto of apparition in Lourdes, and
candles were burned for them as well. I feel so humbled to
be the bearer of your petitions. Thank you for this privilege.
Father Tony said in his homily last weekend that, “It’s all
Sunny in Kankakee”, and by the grace of God, things are
working out because of the many parishioners and priests
that have been generous to us. In the first weekend of my
absence, there were enough priests that helped cover our
masses, thanks to our staff that helped make it work. I want
to say thank you to Fr. Roy Jacob for his leadership and
kindness. He is always willing to be with the people and
help where he is needed. Our parish staff and volunteers
have also helped me feel relaxed, because I know that they
are able to accomplish their ministry with the utmost generosity and enthusiasm. So, truly, I have been grateful, and
my prayers for our churches in Kankakee have been geared
toward thanksgiving and continued outpouring of blessings,
healing, unity and spiritual renewal.
This weekend, we celebrate the three days of Saint Teresa’s
Festival. I dreamed of this festival four years ago, as an opportunity to celebrate the gift of Saint Teresa Church to the
faithful of Kankakee. I truly believe that through the years,
the church of Saint Teresa became the happy and dynamic
parish that it is today not only because of the priests that
helped mentor the people, but especially because of the welcoming spirit that has been imbedded in the heart of the
faithful. As pastor of the three Kankakee parishes, I see the
enthusiastic response of our parishioners who have worked
hard to prepare for these festivals every year. This is how
we have achieved the goals that we have set. I hope that
more volunteers will continue to step up to making future
festivals successful, and that new faces will also grace the
planning meetings. I also hope to build up the spirit of community for all the churches, by calling everyone to participate
and support in these festivities.
After the heart of Jesus,
Fr. Sunny Castillo

Estoy
de regreso con recuerdos asombrosos y experiencias
nuevas que llenan mi reserva espiritual. También he
otro seminarista, James Guarascio.
Roma.
Mi querida iglesia, he rezado por ustedes muchas veces.
Padre Sunny Castillo

27th Sunday of Ordinary Time
Oct. 3/4, 2015
In the context of the passage from the Letter to the
Hebrews that all things exist for and through God,
today’s scripture passages from the Book of Genesis
and St. Mark’s Gospel profess a common theme:
sacred marriage. In the Gospel, Jesus, referring to
Genesis, proclaims, God made them male and female. For this reason, a man shall leave his father
and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two
shall become one flesh. It is obvious from these
Scripture passages that God’s gift of marriage is a
blessing between one man and one woman. This is
the church’s teaching on Christian marriage and it
is this Scriptural Truth that faithful stewards need
to embrace regardless of what secular society promotes as a false image of marriage. In this Truth,
the Sacrament of Matrimony reaches its full Christian meaning and potential by strengthening husbands and wives to love and serve the Lord and one
another.
October is the month of the Rosary, a
special time we remember our Mother
Mary and honoring and respecting her
unique role in the salvation history. Her
role in the salvation history was inseparable and she played a double role; as a
physical mother and a true disciple. Jesus never failed to introduce His beloved mother in public as
the true disciple and a mother. In the gospel of Mathew
12:48-50 we find Jesus asking, “Who is my mother, and who
are my brothers?” For whoever does the will of my Father in
heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” With firm conviction and knowledge Jesus was revealing that Mary is the
only one who perfectly obeyed the will of God the Father.
Therefore she is a perfect disciple and a real mother in all
respect. Jesus knew well that Mary is the only one he can
trust with full confidence here on earth. As the mother and a
disciple she accompanied Jesus till the end. The cost that
she paid through her life is unimaginable.
Now the time has come to express our deep gratitude to our
mother for her meritorious and heroic life here on earth.
How do we respect and honor her? We need to ask the question, how important is Mary in my life? Do I make any effort
to recite the rosary on a daily basis as part of my Christian
life
It is Pope Leo XIII who personally started the practice of
devoting October to the Rosary devotion. In a letter of September 1, 1883, mindful of the Rosary's power to strengthen
faith and foster a life of virtue, he outlined the triumphs of
the Rosary in past times and admonished the faithful to
dedicate the month of October to the Blessed Virgin through
the daily recitation of her Rosary in the presence of the
Blessed Sacrament, in order to obtain through her intercession the grace that God would console and defend His
Church in her sufferings.
The rosary is a powerful weapon against Satan. One day a
retreat preacher shared with me one of his moving experiences in the field of retreat. One day he was giving a retreat
for a group of people in Rome. It was a full week retreat and
a couple of thousand people were on board to get the divine
experience. During the adoration this priest was praying
alone in the corner of the chapel. While he was in deep
meditation Satan appeared before him and said, “Do not let
the people recite the rosary. Because each time they recite
the Hail Mary it is a strong blow on my head. Please discourage them from doing so”.
It is an undeniable fact that reciting the rosary is a strong
support and power against Satan and all his influences. In
this month of October, let us consider this beautiful prayer
of the rosary as a means that we can use to make ourselves
powerful and draw closer to Jesus and Mary by meditating
on the great mysteries of our salvation.
Have a blessed Week
Rev. Roy Jacob CMI
